You're kidding? It's been discussed a few times here although probably not all that recently.
Big O is one of my all-time favorites (maybe my #1 all-time favorite). There's also a Vash the Stampede shirt up in my closet, as well as an old school Speed Racer shirt, and I've got Racer X wall art hanging right beside my coffee room down here in the basement.

Hmm. Looks stupid on one hand. . . but it did look like the people participating were having a blast. Like everything, it depends on the games released for it. I doubt I'll want it, but if a killer app comes out, I have enough relatives who would enjoy playing it could be worth a purchase. (not at 150 though)

1. Yes, it's completely camera-based.
2. Early reviews have been mixed on how responsive it is, but I'm not sure it's totally fair since it's still being worked on. Microsoft is having a separate presentation at E3 solely for the Natal accessories, so we'll get a heavy helping of what it's about and likely several demos.

I will say, I REALLY like New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Wasn't that stoked by Mario Galaxy, but NSMB Wii has been a ton of fun, both on my own and with friends or with my sister and her fiance.
On a completely different note, I'm really looking for a hack-and-slash type RPG, preferably for a handheld (I'm recovering from surgery at my parents' house, so no XBOX or PS3 here). It surprises me how few of those there are in general for consoles/handhelds.

I just think my gaming habits have changed. Platformers do not interest me. I'm really focused on sports games with fine diversions here and there like CoD: MW2 or Final Fantasy (which I really haven't made it very far on).

Just curious on this. Would it be adding college teams to the game, or making a seperate game for college hockey? While having the teams in the game would be cool, I'd really like to play out a college hockey season with all the teams.

Gotcha. Yeah, I don't really like platformers. I can't remember the last one I played, but I imagine it was on the Sega Genesis or maybe it was on Dreamcast or Playstation 1?
I might be wrong, but I think the last platformer I remember playing was "Apocalypse" with Bruce Willis.
He yelled out "Strap one on, it's time to jam!" among other things in the game. But that last line stuck out for, uh, obvious reasons.

I'm also interested in just playing the college teams, though I would guess it's going to be the option to play with college team in the NHL games. I'd be surprised if a college only game would sell well enough for hockey.
100 Classic Books for Nintendo DS. Apparently the DSi XL is big enough that Nintendo feels comfortable treating it like an eReader:

Yeah I'm wondering how far they're going to go with it. I would hope they would do something like they've done with the AHL and have it be a playable league, but I suspect that would be a bit too much. I'm expecting the NCAA teams to be in the game like all the Euro teams. Playable in exhibition, and can be used to replace an NHL team for dynasty.
Clearly the most needed addition to NHL 11 would be playoff beards.

I figure they'd use it in the Be a Pro mode. You start off there before getting drafted potentially. Sort of like how The Show uses the minors.
I would hope it could be a playable league, but I don't know if EA really would put that kind of effort into a series they already dominate.

So I've been playing the hell out of the FIFA World Cup game winning the WC with the US and Netherlands. I just started a new campaign with Cameroon. In my first group is Somalia, Djibouti, and Kenya. Even though they present absolutely no challenge, I don't think I've ever had this much fun. Just seeing the mistakes that are made by the players is incredible. It seems in most sports games, the teams play basically the same and you don't really see that many errors. When playing these teams, passes are off, shots are off, players lose the ball on the dribble. But they realize that Eto'o is pretty much all I've got, and whenever he gets the ball there are 3 guys waiting there. It's pretty cool, and something I didn't see when going through qualifying with the US or Netherlands.

It looks like there are bigger vents on the sides, and the fact that they've shrunk it down suggests they've reduced the size (and thus the power footprint) of the internal chipset.
I'd guess that we just aren't going to see much in the way of overheating issues on the new model. Which isn't to say it won't have issues of its own, but they likely won't be related to overheating.

ESPN3 is the same way. I guess the internet provider subsidizes the cost, which is why people with an approved provider can watch streaming ESPN online with their PCs.
Time Warner is not so approved, though, so I can't use that. If it's the same list of providers with ESPN on the Xbox 360, that will definitely blow. But at least if it's going to be subsidized the same way as ESPN3, that suggests no increase in Gold costs.

I know my question sounded snarky, but it was completely serious. I am definitely interested in a 360 if the damn things will ever work. I refuse to be subjected to the current hassle. Only reason I've ever even considered a PS3 over a 360 is this. If it is solved, I'm on board.

Since the Falcon chip set came out almost two years ago, the RRODs have come down in number drastically from the plagued launch models. This new hardware rev should reduce the number of failures even more, since it is a point of emphasis in the design.

Offhand, I see that the ethernet port is still there (people have been IMing me all morning asking about that, and all I've been able to do 'til now is shrug).
Three USB ports in back, two in front, and the fiber-optic port has been moved from the proprietary HDMI cable to the back of the system, à la PS3.
About the only thing I haven't heard yet as far as influencing my decision to get one is whether the hard drive is standard SATA, or if it will still be proprietary in some way.

A couple of good Nintendo notes that caught my eye
http://ds.ign.com/articles/109/1095753p1.html
Super Scribblenauts fixed the control issues from Scribblenauts, added adjectives, and has levels with multiple objectives now. I'm definitely game all over again.

I am definitely getting more excited about NBA Jam for the Wii. Play control similar to before, except the shove has a counter move. Boss fights sound interesting, it sounds like you might be able to play with the teams of old (I'd love the TE teams, too, if possible), and online play is still up in the air.

Wow, the new 360 looks sick. 250 GB HD, built in wifi 802.11n. Smaller, quieter, and still just $299.
It's being shipped to retailers today, available in stores later this week.
Since I have an n network (and because of the other upgrades), I'm seriously contemplating the idea of trading in my old 360 for an upgrade. I never thought I'd do that with any console.

Goldeneye 007 for the Wii gets a pretty raucous ovation from the crowd
Epic Mickey finally gets fleshed out a bit. To me, feels like it still has a vague Kingdom Hearts vibe.

New Kirby game for the Wii: Epic Yarn this fall. I dunno- looks like they're trying to hit the female market with this one. I know my wife loves Kirby but I feel he gets the short end of the stick from time to time. Kirby games get a lot of experimental control and testing- they're starting to feel like a tech demo. Whenever there's an off the wall mechanic or peripheral to test, slap the Kirby label on it and try it out.
Then stuff we already knew about. Dragon Quest 9 finally coming to the DS at the end of the month. Metroid Other M coming in August.
Retro with a new Donkey Kong Country.

Probably not here on FOFC but in the market in general, a little. It all comes down to what you look for in games. At the end of the day, the DS is on pace to topple the PS2 as the best selling console ever but that may not happen if they cannibalize those sales with the NDS (essentially shortening the console's lifespan).

The Wii was fun for a little while, but I haven't played it in quite a while. I don't regret buying it - I certainly got my money's worth of entertainment out of it - but for console gaming I'm far more interested in 360 and PS3 games.
The DS on the other hand is consistently fun - it's a great platform for smaller-scale games that you can play on the go. My DS is one of the main ways I kill time on airplanes and airports.

What the hell????? I compliment what is easily the best handheld on the market noting why it sells so well and it's a backhanded compliment?
While the over-sensitive Nintendo fans may think that it's somehow a problem that women and girls like the DS, Nintendo is laughing all the way to the bank with a handheld and a console that both owe their huge sales to their wide appeal to all gamers, not just the core audience. My daughter will tell you it's 'awesome'. I certainly don't disagree.

That's a huge base for that console. Look around you the next time you're on a plane with kids around. You'll find kids playing a DS everywhere and most of them are female. In case you haven't noticed, 50% of the consumer base in our country is female. It's about time a company addressed the whole market and got it right, whether overly-sensitive core gamers like you and SI want to admit it or not. It's just another console if it appeals to the core gamer. As a wide-reaching console, it becomes the best handheld ever created.

I think some of us are overly sensitive on what MBBF says. I would argue that it certainly is the non hardcore gamers, kids and women being a big part of that, that fuels both the Wii and DS markets to push them above their competitors. The way he phrased that comment implied that the unspoken part was "but no guy would be caught dead playing it."
As opposed to, you know, Wii having done a phenomenal job of bringing girls and women into a marketplace that historically they have not been a significant percentage of. Something like 55% of Wii/DS owners are female. That's not hyperbole. That's science.
But that also means that 45% of Wii/DS primary players are guys, and that's not an insignificant percentage. Especially when you consider the hojillions of Wii/DS units that Nintendo have sold in the last several years.

I don't play either one much. The PSP ends up getting used for airline travel since I can watch videos on it rather than crane my neck trying to see the in-flight (or, worse, getting no in-flight at all).

NO interest in motion control systems, I loathe most of the motion control games on the Wii and the stylus-controlled games on the DS. Even less interest in 3D crap, even if it doesn't require special glasses. Only thing I want to know is if the "analog nub" on the 3DS works as poorly as the one on the PSP does.
I love my DS and I'll admit I even like my PSP, and my 360 gets the most play time of my consoles (I have PS3, Wii, and 360). But I don't think I'll be running out to get anything recently announced right when it comes out, especially not Natal, PS Motion, or the 3DS.
Edit: I take that back. Golden Sun could be interesting, depending on how it's done. I hate forced stylus use (or Wiimote use), which is why the Zelda franchise is all but dead to me.

If the programmers are like the cars in that game, they will work at a certain pace without regard to thoughts of winning or meeting their completion date. They are just out for a drive, and care not about the racing aspect of the game. They don't care if other developers pass them or not.

Holy shit I just watched the Nintendo conference on DVR. I will have the 3DS on launch day. Wife is already interested, that sold me.
So, lol at the Zelda presentation. I cringed all the way through that. I'm sure it's awesome, but the demo was laughable. I mean, it was plagued with everything I hate about motion controls. From not recognizing motions sometimes to detecting them when you aren't doing anything at all to doing something completely different than you want it to and even doing things that you want just significantly lagged. Fuck. As the demo went on, I think it became clear that there was something effing up the communication between the controller and system, but man that was fucking painful to watch. Aside from that, I liked what I saw.
Mario Sports Mix could be complete crap or complete awesome. No way to know yet.

I agree about motion control systems. No interest at all. 90% of the time I am playing some game on a console, I am drinking beer. Usually it's a lot of beer. Nothing good will come of the mixture of lots of beer and me playing a motion control system.
The new Xbox 360 does look nice. I like the features too. The Xbox 360 that I've had for the last 3 years is actually a friend's spare he bought during a RROD crisis. If I ever need to pony up and get my own, this is definitely the one I will get. Good storage, DMI cable output, built in wireless...
As for gaming news. I am not too concerned. My immediate gaming future is pretty much set with the upcoming releases of Starcraft 2, Elemental: War of Magic, Civ V, and Fallout: New Vegas all coming in the next 3-4 months.

I hope the Konami baseball game in that list of future 3DS games is from the Power Pros series.
I wonder what the Dragon Quest game will be, a spinoff like Rocket Slime or the Monsters series, a remake (DQ7?), or maybe they switched DQ10 from Wii to 3DS after DQ9 sold like five million copies on DS in Japan alone.
I'll be getting a 3DS near launch if the price is reasonable (which I'm concerned about with the pricing of the DSi and DSi XL), floor impressions have been very positive and it looks like there will be a lot of good, early third-party support in addition to Nintendo's stuff.

I didn't see much mentioned about this. I think this is a pretty low point for gaming journalism. I'd hate to see E3 become a situation where companies start to 'buy off' journalists with giveaways of this size. I think a much better option would have been to offer each group in attendance a new 360 to give away to their users or just to give a couple hundred of the new machines to a charity like Child's Play. This seems to take things in a direction that may trigger further modifications to the law related to gaming journalist hand-outs.

I think it's an awfully expensive handout and not a great precedent. Then again, as I joked with Josh: "As long as anyone in there has reviewed more than, say, 5 games, they've had to replace their 360 so maybe Microsoft figured they owed them one" ;)
Usually the handout is some sort of game demo or something like that but I suppose if you want to generate buzz, that's definitely one way to do it.

Kevin Butler is his usual funny self. There are some pretty games but you won't get the full effect because you don't have 3D on your computer and a lot of the presentation was in 3D. Gears of War- well, I'm not into FPSs, but I found it to look... well, just like any other. Gran Turismo looks really pretty. Sly collection and Heroes on the Move I'm curious about because Sony's top platformers are usually very good and don't seem to get enough love. Little Big Planet 2 looks to improve on an already good formula. Gabe Newell comes out and does a little self deprecating humor (I loved his line about Butler being the "VP of sharpening objects" or something like that) before showing Portal 2 coming to PS3. And they end with Twisted Metal, which is solid and a long time coming :)

Looks like Sony is launching a spin off of the Kevin Butler character as well to pimp the PSP line..........
I saw the first ad on during either The Daily Show or Colbert last night. It was a pretty strong shot against Apple. Since I doubt Nintendo will go get their hands dirty like that, I'm happy to see Sony do it.

I feel like this is the year that Nintendo is finally making all the games we wished they had been making the past 3 years.
Miyamoto: “We are very hard at work on Pikmin” (http://www.wiinintendo.net/2010/06/15/miyamoto-pikmin/)

After the absence of Pikmin 3 today from Nintendo, someone asked Miyamoto for a status update at the Developers Roundtable. According to him, Pikmin 3 was not brought to E3 because he didn’t want it to be a distraction for other games. However, he did say that “Rest assured, though, we are very hard at work on Pikmin.” Hopefully it’s not too long before we get some information on the game.

Yeah- I don't know about the proverbial Megaton, per se, but Nintendo sure has quantity that we haven't seen in years. I mean, they've had to sneak in stuff that would normally be a big deal. For instance, with the 3DS, there's Star Fox 3DS, Paper Mario 3DS, and Ocarina of Time 3DS all confirmed on the floor but no mention in the press conference.
SI
Two years ago, Animal Crossing City Folk was one of the featured games in the conference. Animal Crossing 3DS is in development and no mention at all. There seem to be lots of examples of this. Looks like this will be a fantastic year for Nintendo fans.

Thing is- I think the 3DS is at least next summer, if not next fall/Christmas for release. I'm not sure how many of these things will be ready for this year. The big confirmed games for this year for the Wii are NBA Jam, Wii Party, Kirby, Epic Mickey, Donkey Kong Country, Goldeneye, and Metroid Other M. Zelda and Mario Sports Mix are 2011. For the DS, it's Golden Sun, Dragon Quest 9, and Super Scribblenauts but that's pretty much it as I think they're going to be doing one last big hurrah before the 3DS. That said, if you're a Nintendo fan, it's a fun time. Some of these may not get the press of some of the other announcements for other games but, man, if you're a Nintendo fan- that's a lot of stuff that's right up your alley :D

The Wii, well- that's a pretty darn good lineup coming down the pipes and they've needed that for a year or so now.

Looks like the rumors were true. Kinect priced at $149. I guess we know why MS didn't mention a price point at E3 now.
Kinect priced at GameStop: $149, $399 for Elite bundle -- Engadget (http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/14/xbox-kinect-gets-priced-149/)
This is totally puzzling. Why did MS redesign the 360 without a stabilizer on the disc drive? One of the big complaints behind RROD has been the scratched discs and a stable disc drive like what they have in the PS3 and Wii would have easily solved this problem.

3DS to Allow the Dumping of Games to Internal Memory

In a move that mimics the Xbox 360's ability to install games to its hard drive, Nikkei is reporting that Nintendo's 3DS system will allow users to copy cartridge-based games to internal memory.
Once a game is "dumped" to the system's memory, it can be launched by selecting it from a menu listing the games stored on the system. Users will no longer have to carry their cartridges with them on the road in order to play multiple games.
Nintendo has yet to discuss this feature, so we'll have to wait and see if there are any caveats.

I'm curious what kind of DRM would be in place to keep people from renting games, dumping them to the internal memory, and then returning them. Either some seriously limited memory, or maybe it'd disable the cartridge until after the dump gets deleted from the 3DS.

There's big news with this as well. A version of Steam is apparently coming to the PS3 which means Valve will be able to get it's DLC out for free on PS3s. This means Microsoft won't be able force Valve into charging for it's DLC on their console.

$149 for the Kinect seems fair considering what it opens the system up to do. Especially when you look at what's being charged for other peripherals on the consoles. My guess is that it's down to $99 the following year.

Have you played some user created tracks yet? Some great stuff out there that really adds to the game. The creation tool and its ease of use is really something that other developers should look at for ideas.

Price has absolutely been an issue. The industry has a long history of accessories that have cost over the $50-60 price range that fail miserably. There was an article in the past that detailed the overwhelming odds against a $60+ accessory having any real commercial success. If I can find it, I'll add it to this thread.
There's no real technology being pushed here. The Sony controller is an updated version of the Wii controller system. Natal is an updated version of what the Playstation Eye was doing a generation ago.
Even the support that the PS3 is providing to add Move functionality to old games won't help its case. People want something new, not just a new way to play something old.

Bottom line for me, developers aren't going to develop enough good games for either accessory to make it a good buy a year from now. Why use the money/time to develop a current/next generation game around these accessories that are not in many homes yet, when you can develop a last generation tech. game on the system that is in most homes that has a similar capability already?
If you have the ability to pick which system to design for to sell your game, it is almost a no brainer.
Edit: And then there is the alternative that some games will just add on mini-games and such to make use of the technology. Which won't make the accessory purchase worth it either.

This.
I expect to see a lot of 'Carnival Games HD' for these accessories. Cheap to make with low risk. And for the big games that are adapted to support these accessories, the functionality will feel 'tacked on', which has been a complaint on some Wii games. I suspect that feeling will be magnified on the HD consoles.

The Playstation Eye is nothing like the Kinect. The Eye is basically just a webcam. The Kinect is a webcam with an infrared camera that can sense depth. That's like saying the iPhone is just an updated version of some phone Motorola released 5 years ago.
The games that worked with the Eye did nothing close to what the games made for the Kinect are doing. Make the excuse that people won't want to play those kind of games, but saying this isn't something new is plain wrong.

You're incorrect about the camera. You can call it an upgrade (as I did) or an evolution of the PS Eye, but it's certainly nothing new. Adding a third dimension of movement and little else isn't going to create a demand for a $150 accessory.

He was advised by the person at Gamestop to wait until the new ones actually came in, and it was stated that he would get a better deal then, though he wasn't given any details. This would imply that Gamestop will be running some sort of deal for people looking to upgrade. Unfortunately I don't have any more details just yet on how this works, but when I do hear something more I'll be sure to post it here.
Basically an old 360 with a hard drive, and an ethernet adapter gets you 170 dollars in store credit. details are on gamestop.com.
Basically an upgrade for 130 if you have the ethernet, or 170 if you don't.

So they're in stores? Ok, I'll go take a look and use some reward certificates.
Still, would be nice to get a deal with a free game or something...

Rock Band/GH is the exception rather than the rule.
You're incorrect about the camera. You can call it an upgrade (as I did) or an evolution of the PS Eye, but it's certainly nothing new. Adding a third dimension of movement and little else isn't going to create a demand for a $150 accessory.
HDTV isn't an upgrade over SDTV, it just adds some pixels. Adding some pixels and little else isn't going to create a demand for those things.

The trailer doesn't look too bad and I like the retro setting of the game. That said, it's not XCom. I would be more interested in this game if it wasn't called XCom. It just feels like a complete waste of the IP to slap the name on this game. I am annoyed by it.

This game would actually be the big reason that I would consider purchasing the Move controller on the PS3. I could see that as something I would use quite a bit. I'd love to see them come out with a package deal, much like they did on the Wii. It wouldn't surprise me at all if that is already in the works.

There was a great game that I think was called 2extreme or something like that on the PS1 that had similar gameplay except with things like street luge. May be the same developers because it has a similar look.......except with office chairs.

I don't usually get into these things, but I really really think the best thing about Kinect is that there is no controller! If it works just as good as wii/move or better and doesnt have an extra controller on your hand that would be fantastic. After watching that kung fu rider trailer and seeing the Move controller, it just looks dumb. I know it would look dumb without one but I think it would be way cooler for some reason to just be using your hands and body not attached to anything.

I'm still not sold on Kinect, but I'm especially not sold on it if it's truly more pricey than $100. I think in some ways it's like the Wii...everybody liked the idea of it at first, but I'll be the first to say that aside from New Super Mario Bros. Wii, the only time it gets turned on is when I have friends over, and then we ONLY play bowling (Wii Sports Resort version), shuffleboard (on Game Party), or Boom Blox...all games that are good for crowds.
Then again, I also cannot think of games I'd like to play with motion controls. The Zelda franchise is all but dead to me thanks to motion- (Wii) and stylus- (DS) controlled versions that feel gimmicky at best. I'm not into fighting/boxing games, which would shine with this type of control. I've heard that the racing game on the Kinect is OK, but I'm not sure I could see using that, either (Mario Kart with the Wii Wheel feels awkward...). None of my JRPGs or western RPGs is really conducive to motion control. Shooters I'd think you'd want something to point with (i.e. a controller of some sort).
No Kinect for me (or PS Move, either).

Also, not terribly surprised at this. We had alreaady talked about how the motion technology likely increases the length of this generation. MS Euro boss say we won't see a new system from them until 2015. I think most consumers will be very pleased with this. I'd love to get 7-8 years out of my system.

Kinect and new slim console extends 360's lifespan
New Xbox 360 slim and Kinect extends the console's lifecycle to 2015, claims Microsoft exec
If you're waiting on the next Xbox - the XBox 720, perhaps, you've got a bit of a wait. Microsoft says that the new Kinect controller and the forthcoming launch of a new, slimmer Xbox 360 consoles extends the lifespan of the product through to 2015.
While the company is still to confirm pricing and release details on Kinect, which we expect will arrive at GamesCon in Germany this coming August, Microsoft's European boss Chris Lewis has said that the new controller tech extends the format's lifecycle through to 2015.
Xbox 360 is mid-lifecycle
Lewis told GamesIndustry.biz: "I think 2010 will be a very big year for us, it is in many ways for us mid-lifecycle.
"What you've seen is with this new sleek design and Kinect for Xbox 360 we've got at least another five years of this generation where we continue to offer great experiences for people.
"We continue to attach more games than competitive platforms and we have the healthiest ecosystem with 25 million people connected through Xbox Live. So we are uniquely placed to continue to do really, really well in this business and enjoy ongoing momentum."

I would guess you could keep it and not get that trade-in value so you could transfer it, but I'm guessing that your best answer is that you can't do that if you want the trade-in value.

In the article it states you can do the HD trade after you moved the content off.
FTA:
On top of the normal trade-in listed above, I plan on trading in a few games I don’t play anymore, my wireless white headset (the new one comes with a black one), my old base 20GB hard drive and I’ll do the 250gb hard drive trade-in later (gotta transfer all of my game saves and information off of it).

I did the transfer on a USB card... hope it works - if not oh well.
It cost me about $160 after trade in of my old box and 250 GB HD. But I traded in some old games + a birthday gift card and it cost me about $80 out of pocket.
I'll tell you the main reason why I did the upgrade. My old box sounded like a damn jet plane when on and I couldn't stand it!

I would think that a lot of 360 users would take advantage of this redesign. With the reliability issues and the fact that this generation is going to last awhile, it's well worth it to get a more reliable alternative that what most currently have at a good trade-in price. I can't imagine the stacks of traded-in consoles that Gamestop is going to have in the coming months. I'm guessing an old model will be pretty cheap by Christmas.

You have to use a transfer cable to move your saves. The old HDs are not compatible with the redesigned 360.
With my 360 already having had one trip to the repair shop, this is tempting me.

MS has an adapter cable that comes with a CD. You take the old HD out, and plug the cable into the old HD, and the USB end into the Xbox. The CD contains the transfer software. Since a lot of the saves and downloads are encrypted, you'll need the CD to be able to transfer everything.

thanks for that link. Have only marginally realized this was coming, since i´m getting a PS3 this Friday might as well start thinking about this one.
On first glance don´t see a huge need to get this, can anyone with a PS3 elaborate in how far this "makes sense" ? I almost never found any 360 online/Indie games worthwile, the 1-hour-trial is kind of stupid to me (1 day i could see).
You also don´t get to choose between free games but there´s allways only 1 available, right ?
The "Exclusive offers on select demos" will be the same as with the 360 i guess, getting demos 1 week early ?
kind of feels like the difference silver---Gold for the 360, only that you can still play online without getting PSN+. For now one could maybe add ? Guess at some point Sony might want to cash in here as well ...
EDIT : Then again i have bot Little Big Planet and Wipeout HD on my list of games i´d like to get used and cheap to check out, both would be included in the year-long membership. Hmm ...
