View Full Version : Neat trick, windows 7/Vista "God" mode
Maybe it's old but i read about it today. It sounded like a joke when i read about it, but it works!
Just create a new folder in your desktop exactly named:
GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
It will create a new admin panel where you can control and tweak all the Windows 7/Vista features, insted of having to go to each different panel.
I have tested it in Windows 7 64 bit and works perfectly.
NOTE: don't try this in Vista 64 bit, TLK has said it broke something on his system.

I think calling it "God" mode is a bit over the top. If it gave you full access to the coding (aka, open sourced it) then it would be worthy of that name.
edit: Never heard of it though. If I get a new box sometime soon I will have Win7 on part of it and will check it out.
Don't try this in Vista 64-bit. I'm still trying to fix it.

Here's the easy fix from Yahoo...
Another way which is easier (no need to go to safe mode) is:
- Open Task manager (using Cltrl+Alt+Delete)
- Click on menu File ->Open task
- Type regedit and Enter to open Registry Editor
- Search for the key word ED7BA470
- Delete this key and close Registry Editor
- Restart Windows Explorer and everything is back to normal :)

but then you have that folder cluttering up your desktop with it's ugly long name...

You can replace the GodMode part with any text you want, I named it "admin tools"

The folder changes into an application icon and the long name disappears.
