Umm, this is a little weird.

Finally got around to downloading and installing 6.3 today after having not played FOF in awhile. I used a one player file starting in 1960. The innagural season of the United Football League saw my Colts end a dissapointing 8-8 after a 6-2 start. Admittedly, I was baffled by my 6-2 start as my team was quite dreadful, talent wise and statistically. But hey, I wasn't complaining. Am now though...8-8 will only see a mid round draft pick, but I digress.

Anyway, at the end of the season I received quite a surprise, my PUNTER Claude Kalk, was named league MVP.

Claude didn't actually have any sort of amazing season, either. He was second in both overall average and net average. He was second in punts in the 20's, too. He was middle of the league in overall yards and net yards and towards the bottom in attempts.

He wasn't even a first or second team punter.

I was just thinking that it was awfully weird. He didn't do any kicking otherwise. He had one special teams tackle.

Sort of weird. I suppose it could be because of the general level of play was so low, because the level of talent being so poor, but there were still plenty of players far far far more worthy.

Anybody ever seen anything like that?

I absolutely have not seen anything like this. Can you please post a screen shot?

...I used a one player file...

This would cause offensive output to be extremely low, I'm quite sure.

And I'm guessing he's the only guy with Popularity high enough to win the MVP. Not a bug.

Yeah, I saw stuff like this back in my OPU days with FOF2K4 when I wanted to pre-simulate some history from 1965 or so to the present.

I thought that might be it, but still should he not have at least been second team punter?

It's also not like there were not other players who had reasonably good seasons, I believe the OPY was a running back with nearly 1300 yards and 8 or so TD's, don't remember his receiving.

Regardless, I realized I had forgotten to change the difficulty setting so I'll be restarting anyway.

I think Ben is right on here. One thing about MVP calculations in FOF is that Popularity is a surprisingly important stat. Since he is Idolized (100), it is probable that no other Idolized players had very good seasons, and he was chosen as MVP, even though he was not the best Punter.

I run a league that started similarly. MVP selections for the first four or five years were very iffy indeed. Just the nature of a league of scrubs I think. If you think that's crazy look at the Legends of the Games, lol. I've had guys win who never played a game and then retired.

You have just described my personal and professional goal. Canton, here I come!

isnt that usually a bad thing when your punter is league MVP?

Just in case you're trying to learn what this game is about -- this isn't some ordinary happening. This was a weird outcome from a person hijacking the game for customization purposes, and creating a league full of "walk on" talent. he did this deliberately, it has weird effects on the game, and seemingly one of them resulted in this absurd punter-MVP situation.

Please don't be misled into thinking this is the sort of errant stuff that happens regularly when this game is played in any ordinary fashion. Look around, I think you'll find that by and large stats are pretty "realistic" and overall game play issues are very, very far beyond this sort of aberration.
