Wow. I loved the original and remember the character very fondly from my college years. Now there is a Wall Street sequel due in April.

I have more hope for it than that, since Stone is doing this one, too. Presumeably he won't phone it in, since this is a part of his legacy.

I HATE sequels in general. But i really really HATE sequels where the bad guy becomes a good guy, which is my biggest beef with T2. Not that Wall Street was amazing, but it was much more fun to hate Gecko than to root for him as the lesser of two evils.

"Wall Street" is my favorite movie ever, so I might just have to get in line at the multiplex when it comes out. I'd better be quick, because I'm getting a "Basic Instinct 2" vibe for some odd reason.

This, of course, works on the assumption that you actually like Stone films :)

Well, if you belong to that subset of people, you of course wouldn't have tried to see this anyway. ;)

Stone's had his stinkers (hello, Alexander) and the conspiracy angles got tiring when he was on that trip, but Wall Street and Platoon were both excellent, IMO. I also thought World Trade Center was well done, especially given the emotional context of the film subject.

And while they are far from great films, I enjoyed Any Given Sunday, JFK and Natural Born Killers for the most part.

I saw Platoon when it came out so I didn't really "get" it or understand it much at the time, other than the fact that it was one of about 5 war films of that year and that my sister gushed over the fact Johnny Depp was in it. I think I finally saw it again this decade but again didn't remember much. Didn't like JFK either. I just get tired of I guess Stone's melodrama and ultraseriousness. Plus his symbolism and flashbacks and such. Not everything has to be a flashback to the war. I guess that shows how damaged he is about it. Yes he is technically gifted and has something to say. And I agree the two films you mention are probably his best. I DO have a guilty pleasure liking toward Any Given Sunday. If it had been a half hour shorter, take out any flash backs or images and get rid of every scene not on a football field it would have been great. LOVE all the football game and practice scenes and most of the cast is awesome, EXCEPT Cameron Diaz who is stiff and horrible. (They shoulda got someone like Julianne Moore who could handle that role). Probably the best football movie there is. Better than NOrth Dallas Forty even.

I'm bumping this because the movie is due out soon (9/24) and they seem to be advertising it heavily. I'm a little more excited and hopeful about it than I was when I first saw this, but I still don't think it's going to set the box office on fire. If it's half as good as the original, then it'll be worth the 8 bucks plus obscenely inflated snacks and drinks. I'm not certain it's all that good though. We'll see.

Here's hoping Douglas will recover from his throat cancer.

I'm looking forward to seeing this one, as well. Without even seeing it, I'll be surprised if Douglas isn't nominated for an Academy Award.

This smells an awful lot like Rocky Balboa. I expect a solid effort, but not stellar.

Yesterday, immediately following a commercial for this movie, was a GEICO commercial. Had to be on purpose... :)

*every* non-GEICO commercial is followed by a GEICO commercial. I think its some FCC mandate.

Good point. Plus, adding Shia LaBeouf to an established franchise has not always equalled cinematic greatness (see Indiana Jones). :)

Every time I see a commercial for this movie the only thing that goes through my mind is: "Great, another perfectly good movie ruined by Shia LaBeouf."

I know a lot of people were fans of Holes, but this guy is a terrible actor with a horrible track record. Why does he keep getting roles?

With ya.

I could care less about this movie. Stone stated one of the reasons he made this movie is that he was disappointed the first movie didn't come across as intended to many (that capitalism is pure evil), so he is basically taking another swing at it.
