eggplant, cucumber, squash, zucchini, pumpkin, and tomato are all FRUITS???

Where the hell have I been? I go 100% vegetables on that list before 5 minutes ago.

They can be both, vegetable is a pretty hazy term botanically, if I recall. Fruit, on the other hand, is rather specific.

Well, I believe botanically they are all fruits, but they are all frequently used as vegetables culinarily (<--really?).

I knew tomato was a fruit, the rest of them are all news to me.

I thought the general rule of thumb was if it can go up your butt... it's a fruit.

Seeds = Fruit, no matter what your local grocery association says.

I always thought corn was a vegetable...then someone told me recently that it wasn't. Anyone?

Corn is a grain, neither fruit nor vegetable

Untrue. Cereal grains are technically fruit. They are called caryopsis.

I knew a pumpkin, squash and tomato were, not the others.

I thought being a fruit had something to do with flowering plants as well?

I thought that if it grew on a tree or on some kind of vine then it was a fruit.

What about those of us who abstained from voting? Does that make me rice or peanuts or something like that?

When I see a thread by MJ4H that is titled "Mother of God" I really expect hot chicks, not fruits and vegetables.

This doesn't get you all hot and bothered?

So, according to wiki: "On average, 20 lbs (9 kg) of eggplant contains about the same amount of nicotine as a cigarette (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cigarette)." Who knew?

Lemme see here .. 3 packs a day = 60 cigarettes x 20 pounds per = I just need to eat 1200 pounds of eggplant a day to break even.

I think people tend to associate fruit with something that tastes sweet or tart. So, that's probably why something like a cucumber seems weird to be called a fruit?

Because we thought you were a vegetable and it turns out you're a fruit?
