The latest quote I heard was "All the tanks and Apache helicoptors coming into Baghdad were coming to surrender."

We really need to sticky a thread with his greatest hits...

:D

someone will collect them all and write a book. Look for it within a month or so.

I see him on David Letterman after the war.

Yes! Didn't those two guys from the shop down the street leave because the store closed? Letterman needs a new act!

I see this guy pitching in the pioneer league and interviewing people at the zoo in the next 3 months.

I think the main reason the US hasn't shot him yet is b/c they like to laugh at him.

But seriously, if my choices were death, or make up stories about the US, I would probably choose #2 in his position.

But say something cool like: The united States tried to drop in McDonald's food, but we shot each hamburger down with anti-aircraft fire." That would be great.

We have to keep the guy around, if only for the inevitable moment when he gives a press conference as US Marines are walking around in the background.

P.S. Has there ever been a better juxtaposition of two unrelated threads on this board: "The Media is allowed to lie" and "The Iraqi Information Minister".

Maybe he should go on SNL instead of Letterman...I miss Jon Lovitz. :D

Actually CNN is talking about him like crazy, and he's been the toast of talk radio this morning. This guy is becoming a legend! Looks like our buddy Horns has lost his title of the King of Unintentional Comedy to the Iraqi Information Minister...

I have discovered the hidden secret behind Iraqi Information Minister Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/graphics/2002/08/13/wirq13.jpeg

I had a nagging feeling that I had seen this guy somewhere before when it hit me. al-Sahhaf is actually Hollywood actor Chazz Palmenteri. It all makes sense now, how he is able to keep a straight face and still report the Iraqi version of the war chronology. He has had to recite far worse tripe in some of the less than stellar film roles he has appeared in, notably but not solely A Night at the Roxbury.

Many of us asked a week or so ago why we haven't knocked out Iraq TV. Now we know! Bob Hope isn't over there to entertain the troops, so we needed Mohammed Saeed al-Sahhaf. :D

Maybe we can make this into a game...Predict the Minister's next quote:

Here's my guess:

"The American infidels have been defeated soundly. We are now in the process of bringing in the prisoners of war from the battlefield. That is why you see them marching through the streets of Baghdad."

:D

He's got some company on the comedy circuit:

Iraqi diplomat accuses Israel of pushing U.S. to invade Iraq, arming and training U.S. soldiers

CAIRO, Egypt, Apr 07, 2003 (AP WorldStream via COMTEX) -- Israel pushed America to wage war on Iraq and provided equipment and training to U.S. soldiers, Iraq's ambassador to the Arab League said Monday.

"Iraq will not be defeated" in the war, Ambassador Mohsen Khalil told a news conference in Egypt. "Iraq has now already achieved victory - apart from some technicalities."

Khalil said Israel forced America to attack Iraq because the Jewish state "regards Iraq as a major power in the Arab world."

Khalil accused Israel of manufacturing some rockets used by U.S. troops in southern Iraq and providing satellite cameras and night-vision goggles.

"Israeli units trained American soldiers for occupying Baghdad," he added.

Israeli Embassy spokesman Israel Tikochinski dismissed the charges, saying: "Israel is not, in any way, part of this war."

Israel's government has strongly endorsed the U.S.-led offensive against President Saddam Hussein, but America wants to avoid creating the impression of close military cooperation with Israel because of already heightened Arab sensitivities over the U.S.-led offensive on Iraq.

Khalil accused U.S. forces of choosing Iraqi targets with secondary military importance, but public significance, such as Saddam Hussein International Airport in Baghdad.

The American troops "parachute in" with their journalists, get chased away by Iraqi troops, and the Western media publish pictures and stories, Khalil said.

Asked what had happened to the elite Republican Guard divisions around Baghdad, who have offered much less resistance than expected, Khalil said they "are everywhere, not only in Baghdad but in many other places."

Khalil denied a report last week that Egypt had told Iraq's consul in Cairo, Riyad al-Ani, to leave in seven days.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry in Baghdad had reported the decision to expel al-Ani. Egypt's Foreign Ministry declined comment.

"The Egyptian Foreign Ministry did not ask us to expel any of our staff," Khalil said.

Khalil also rejected Western media suggestions that a double of Saddam was filmed meeting people on a Baghdad street Friday.

"There is not one double for Saddam Hussein and there never was one," he said.

"The Americans are walking right into our hands. All of our temporarily dead Republican Guard soldiers shall be reanimated when we use our chemical weapons, and then they shall feast on brains of the invading infidels. Apparently, Mr. Bush is not familiar with the Night of the Living Dead documentaries..."

I feel the SNL comment is right on target. I can see the skit now you have the information minister stating that no americans are in Bagdad, then a confused looking US soldier walks past the camera .

Don't you guys sometimes get the feeling like all of his comments were pre-recorded, the guys might already be dead, and they mixed up the tapes. I can envision two piles of tapes, one handmarked "If we are winning" and the other "if we are losing". :)

And yet, they keep on going to the "if we are winning" pile :D

A couple of links for y'all:

Iraqi information minister a hit in cyberspace (http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/internet/04/11/offbeat.minister.site.reut/index.html)

WeLoveTheIraqiInformationMinister (http://64.39.15.171)

The first link is to a CNN article about this guy and a fan website that has sprung up, and the second is the link to that website. I haven't been able to connect to the fan site, but I'm guessing it's been overloaded by other people attempting to get there. Hopefully we'll be able to check it out soon.

Hmm, I posted a link to the site earlier today (in the The Iraqi Information Minister (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/%7Efof/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7510) thread), but they have since posted a message explaining that they had to switch servers. The link you provided must be to the new one, but they haven't posted that on the old one yet. Glad you found it!
