We've got just two more blocs of first round action!
The Eaglesfan27 concludes its first round today with #2 M*A*S*H playing #15 Law & Order for the second round matchup with #7 Twilight Zone.
M*A*SH*
Military dramedy ran from 1972-1983 on CBS and the series finale was the #1 most watched TV show of all time until the 2010 Saints/Colts Super Bowl. Won 14 Emmys and a 1975 Peabody.
Law & Order
NBC legal drama began in 1990 and has run for 20 seasons. It's been renewed for a 21st season and will set the record for longest running primetime drama in American television history. Has led to multiple spinoffs and won 1997 Emmy for Outstanding Drama, one of two Emmys won out of 14 nominations.
In the Izulde, #6 The Office (US) plays #11 Oz for the right to play 14 seed Monday Night Football in the second round.
The Office (US)
American adaptation of the British antecedent. Began in 2005 on NBC as a midseason replacement. Winner of 3 Emmys, a Golden Globe and a 2007 Peabody.
Oz
HBO prison drama that ran from 1997-2003 and was the first show ever produced by HBO. I wasn't able to find an awards listing, which seems somehow appropriate for this perhaps underappreciated series.
The Solecismic has #4 seed Dexter up against #13 seed Batman: the Animated Series, with the winner to play #5 Sports Night in the second round.
Dexter
Showtime drama series recently concluded its 4th season and is renewed for a 5th season. The finale of the 4th season set a Showtime viewership record with 2.6 million. Winner of 2 Emmys and 2 Golden Globes, including Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor Golden Globes in 2009.
Batman: the Animated Series
Cartoon series ran from 1992-1995 on Fox and was critically praised for its handling of the Batman franchise and overall quality. Named to Entertainment Weekly's Top 10 TV shows of 1992 and was ranked the #2 animated TV series of all time by IGN.com and Wizard magazine.
And finally, the Pumpy Tudors features #1 Cheers vs #16 WWE: Monday Night Raw to advance to a second round date with #9 seed Frasier.
Cheers
NBC comedy series ran 11 seasons, from 1982-1993. Famous for the tagline "Where everybody knows your name". Nearly cancelled during its first season when its premiere ranked dead last (77 out of 77 shows). Won 28 Emmys and was nominated for 117 in all, setting a then-record for nominations. Spun off into Frasier, which also appears in this tournament.
WWE: Monday Night Raw
The only wrestling show to make the tournament, it began in 1993 on the USA Network before moving to Spike TV in 2000, then back to USA in 2005. The show is the longest running, weekly episodic show in television history that hasn't taken any hiatus. (according to Wikipedia). I couldn't find any awards information, but if it ever does, I fully expect a hot Victoria's Secret model to show up on my doorstep the next day and say I'm all hers.
