Angering someone through negotiation?

So I'm trying to re-sign a superstar, and am trying to tweak the contract he wants to lower the amount due this year and next, and increase it in the final years, while offering a higher bonus. The amounts are relatively small, saving me maybe less than 2 mil in the next two years, but still important given my cap situation. However, will this tit-for-tat anger him into the 'past injustices'? Thanks

From my experience, no....however, it will cause him to not accept a lower contract than what you would have if you had just given him what he wanted in the beginning.
