So, I bought two laptops from HP last year that had Vista 64 and the free windows 7 upgrade. So I go to upgrade and Windows tells me that I can 't gett he free upgrade since that offer expired March 1st and will have to pay for the upgrade $190. ............That would have been nice to tell customers that buy there laptops in November that this was expiring. WTF.:banghead:

Gotta say, I saw several offers for free upgrade to 7 for laptop and desktop purchases and they all had some sort of expiration date for the upgrade to be valid.

Sad to say but I agree...everything I saw had dates on them.

Yup, I have no doubt I missed it.

You thought you would be able to upgrade forever? Why did you wait so long?

To be honest I was not all that interested in upgrading to 7 until I found vista 64 was a half baked turd. Also, I for some reason thought it was more not a privilege type thing but more feature I had paid for. I see now this was more just a marketing gimmick by HP/MS among others to get folks to buy a new machine. I also was waiting for MS to iron out any bugs once again little did I know that was apparently what Vista was for.

I found a OEM that sells a full version download for under $70 that is just a download that I can burn to disk and do a clean install so I will probably do it myself.

If you're a student, you can buy a Windows 7 Pro upgrade with the UltimateSteal (http://ultimatesteal.com). You can also get Ultimate Office 2007 (http://ultimatesteal.com)very cheap.
