I have a QB who is holding out. I just wanted to know, if he continues the holdout through training camp, how much of an effect will it have on his play? Or does he need to be in TC in order for my offense to be successful this season?

What *is* a big deal, though, is that many (all?) holdouts give "past injustices" messages if they are allowed to end their holdout without getting a new contract. And once you hit TC, there's a chance with each stage that they'll end on their own.

Ok, my owner won't allow me to sign him to the contract he's asking for. The bonus is too high, and the last 4 years of the 6 year deal he wants more per season than my owner is willing to pay. Will spreading the dollar amount evenly over the 6 years with 10 mil less on the bonus get him to sign, or am I basically screwed?

You can always franchise him at the end of the year and hope he forgives you, if all else fails... or just go on franchising him until he does... or until he retires :D

I'd offer the highest bonus you can spread out evenly and do it asap.

Reguardless if you want to let him go or not, if you don't get him signed quick, it won't be your choice.

The max bonus available isn't on a per year base. It's the same total ammount for a 1-year contract as it is for a 7-year contract. You could try to lower to the max your owner allows and take a year off the contract, or thereabout.

There is a rule in the PFL that you have to offer the player a number of years at least equal to the number that he is asking for. So, if he's asking for a 5 year deal, you cannot cut it down to a 3 year offer.

Besides, I believe that he is too close to the cap to do that.

I would need to trade or release the 3 highest contract on my team, which would be my DE, NT, and WR. Even if I drop the DE and NT off my team, I would still need to release my best WR, which would put me right back in rebuilding situation again. Even then, there is still no guarantee Beyer will sign the adjusted contract offer.

It does make me wonder how to police whether the GMs are offering the 5-year demanding players their 5+ contracts... Sounds like a pain to manage for the commish.

In SP, I had a guy 74/74 WR hold out a whole season with 2 years left on his deal. The next season, he retired with one year left on the deal. He was one of the league leaders in catches and yards for 4 straight seasons, and was one of the top 10 paid WRs in the league.

Part of my house rules are that I'm not allowed to negotiate with holdouts, or else I would have renegotiated with him right away.

I traded my NT, DE, and ILB in order to free up enough cap space to sign Beyer. I had to play around with the cap a little bit, but got him to sign. Next problem is, who do I let go next off-season to accommodate his contract from years 2-6?:banghead:
