FOF 4 or FOF 2001

I'm a hardcore football fan and I just discovered this series after figuring out that Madden just didn't have enough in the Franchise Mode. I'm deciding between FOF4 and the EA Sports version FOF 2001. I've been reading that FOF4 has some bugs and has omitted things from last year's version. Which one do you recommend. Any help is appreciated.

Hang on astral. I thoroughly enjoy 2K1. Haven't gone out to buy FOF4 yet. Are the bugs worked out? Why your vehemence against 2k1?

The only reason I might go with 2001 over FOF4 is the expansion team aspect. In FOF4 you get the initial expansion of houston, but thats it. 2001 will expand to 36 teams over time. FOF4 is 4 divs of 4, 2001 is 6 Divs of up to 6.

FOF4 is better from an overall standpoint. And yes, most of the bugs are worked out with the 2 patches.

2K1 is a good game that will never be patched or upgraded. Two patches are out for FOF4, and a third is coming this summer. Both are good, but FOF4 is better imho.

FOF 2001 financially supports EA Sports more than Jim while FOF4 financially supports Jim only and not EA Sports what so ever. I think.

FOF4 is better. Like most games people whine every time a new version is released so the most recent whining is about FOF4, but when FOF2k1 came out it was the same thing.

FOF 4 fixed many of the issues that were wrong with FOF2k1--which exist but are not complained about here anymore.

The good news is that I think that you will have a great time with either game. Part of the reason this board goes OT so much is because we do not need to bitch about the game.

(Also--you may want to take my advice with a grain of salt because I think that FOF2 is still the most fun version of the game. Sure, it is too easy relative to the other games, etc., but--in terms of up at 3AM "just one more season" fun, nothing beat FOF2 for me).

As long as you don't have a VooDoo video card fof2k1 is great. I'm not sure if you can still get 2k1 though and 2k2 has a major bug that really hurts it.. I don't know anything about FOF4.

I don't think you can buy FOF 2001 anymore, so it's a moot issue.

The version that's available from EA Sports is a mangy mutt called FOF 2002. Jim had nothing to do with that one (except the inital code) and it introduces some new bugs. You don't want that one.

FOF4 is good and I think you'll enjoy it. Most of the bugs have been squashed.

I think for many of us, that addictive, pass-up-sex-with-your-wife-to-play-one-more-season quality is attached to the first version we ever played. After getting 2001, I played no other computer games for 3 months. FOF4 got about 2 nights, even though I realize it is an improvement.
