View Full Version : FOF 7.0 Drafting Ideas :)

Just a few, relatively simple, ideas that can be added to an upcoming FOF version. Being that the NFL draft is going on now, they focus on those ideas:

1. Allow draft pick only deals, ONLY during the draft.

2. At each pick, every team in league assesses their needs compared to the top X players at those positions to determine a value for the pick. If the value is high enough, offer a deal.

3. Probably only during the 1st and 2nd rounds, if the value:needs is too low, post the pick as "up for grabs" and can be had for in trade.

4. (1) implies the forecasting of players available at the incoming picks. This can be done by computing likely picks for the teams in the draft, updated after each pick is made. There are numerous straightforward probabilistic calculations to do this.

5. (4) implies other teams can jump up from their positions and therefore change the draft list. This can also be incorporated into the calculation, it is a bit trickier, but can still be done.

Just some ideas, any other REALISTIC ones?

FOR MP:

If 5 or more teams interview one player, they become "well-known/sought after commodities" and their blue bars are opened up globally (with the scout assessment being the most popular assessment (in reference to "Overrated/Underrated" values).

If you interview a player that less than 5 teams pick, you get additional details prior to the draft. Information such as (1) a value of TRUE/FALSE that validates your scout's assessment as accurate (or not), (2) even further refined bars, or possibly (3) a big "loyalty" bonus (automatic 100?) if you select him.

I like those ideas...

Be able to see the draft class seasons ahead of time, with values rising and falling. Have college stats and conference prestige.

As draft comes closer, player and mock drafts come into focus.

Having it generate at the same time as FA starts is lame.

It would be cool to see guys as the season is progressing...

Great idea! I would also like to add:

Player personality "intangibles" play a (stronger) role. This year's draft is a perfect example! Some teams can value intangibles higher than others and the "red flag" players drop - i.e. Dez Bryant. This also implies that they should have a stronger negative impact on the locker room, but I think if the "amount of red flag" can change over time then things could work nicely. Example: Randy Moss, a red flag when draft who matured as he aged, partly related to coaching -- this isn't always the case, but it could be a pretty cool addition to the game I think!

One could even take that further - a bunch of red flagged players shunned by other teams comes together under a coach putting his trust in them and they start to build up an "we are the outlaws mentality" (... or something like that ;) ) and for that reason behave as a unit.. shouldn't happen that often at all, but sometimes..

Word!

I was just in a MP league where I had the #3 pick. Which of course meant I was far out of the playoffs. Having the next draft class visible at this time would have been very nice. I had nothing to do in the league of course until the Super Bowl was done. So I'd have loved to have been looking ahead to what I might get with that #3 pick.

There were some very odd trade discussions on the league forum where all of us with top picks were vaguely discussing moving, but no one could decide because no one could see the draft class yet until the league rolled over into FA.

So, making the draft class visible by the end of the reg season would be very nice.

Give scouts an "interview / workout" skill that plays a role in how accurate the interviews are.

Another variable to drive players nuts. Example: My scout likes a RB. My scout is only 'fair' at RBs. But my scout has a good 'interview' skill. So, how good is that RB?

Not too sure that allowing Draft pick only trades during the draft is such a good idea for MP. For high draft picks, sometimes these trades are arranged before the draft begins. Ie, #5 trades up to #1 by giving a bunch of other picks.

In a MP league, that means I have to do that trade while on the clock in my little draft window. Which since I live out west and most leagues are eastern time based, means about 5 am to 7 am some Saturday morning. Plus its work for the commish that moves from before the draft into a hectic draft day.

So, unless that's fixing a specific problem, I'm not sure I like that idea so much.
