With all indicators pointing to a very active hurricane season in the Atlantic, and with the memory of Gustav and being without power for almost 2 weeks in the heat of August in Louisiana still fresh in my memory, I'm strongly considering purchasing a natural gas backup generator for my house. A friend of mine is buying one and together we can get a fairly nice discount if we buy at the same time and use the same company to install them. I'm still getting estimates from competing companies at the moment, but I thought I'd turn to the collective wisdom of FOFC to see if anyone has any experience with these generators. Are there any specific pitfalls I need to avoid? Are there any clear brand leaders? I've read through a few sites, but wanted to get some other opinions.

No experience per se, but if your power is out are you certain you are going to have natural gas after a hurricane? Or do you have a bottle/tank source?

After Gustav, we still had our gas stove and gas water heaters working. There is a chance it could be disrupted, but that would be very rare from everything I've heard/read.
