View Full Version : Kenny "The Kid" Davis: No More Sand in the Face

I am going to make an attempt t a UFC Undisputed 2010 dynasty / game review. I will follow my created fighter as he progresses and also add my thoughts about the game in general as I go.

I have decided to create a little guy, one who will attempt to focus on the ground game and be a submission fighter.

I chose this as it will be a completely different path for me and will most likely be the toughest for me to accomplish (I have always created stand up and pound fighters in 2009 and my first fighter in 2010 is like that as well).

Hopefully I can entertain and maybe shed a little light on how the game is and hopefully it will help me learn a different style of fighting within this game (making it a win/win situation).

I will try to post as often as possible. Work is raping up again but a 3 day weekend this week will give me some time.

Background

Kenny "The Kid" Davis

Born in Portland, Oregon.

Fighting out of Mobile, Alabama.

20 years old.

5'4", 155 pounds and fighting in the Lightweight division.

Kenny grew up as the tiniest kid in his class. He was always being picked n and one day while at the beach with friends a 10 year old girl kicked sand in his face. That was the last straw as he was being laughed at by his friends and the 10 year old girl.

He wanted to fight back but he never had the guts. That day he decided he hd to fight back or life would walk all over him. He never had the size but he was agile and quick enough.

Deciding to take up martial arts he quickly learned how to use his opponents own strength to his advantage. He began fighting in his late teens and while he never had the power to knock someone out he was able to make them tap.

He must fight on the mat to be successful. He must learn how to impose his will against more skilled fighters and keep himself from beng a punching bag for the successful.

What does his future hold? We will find out.

The create a fighter is a little deeper than last year as it allows you to pick from a list of names now an these names will be used by the announcers (though I noticed in my other career that you still get announced by your nickname when the fight is starting.

First Amateur Fight

After several unoficial back room fights I have finally joined a gym and after what seemed like forever I am finally making my first fight. It's an amateur fight in the gym but I get to see if my training has paid off against a higher calliber opponent that Joe Blow weekend warrior fighter wannabe.

Hopefully I am not one of those...

The first round goes quite well for me as I am able to take my opponent down at will and controlled him on the ground. I landed a few blows from the top an was able to mount him a few times. I did try an arm bar and a coupld attempts at a kimora but were not successful. I do feel good about my first round as he only landed one solid punch on me and I controlled it the rest of the way.

The second round I forgot to defend after I was landing a lot of solid leg kicks and got caught with a solid right that knocked me down. I recovered and was able to take him down near the end of the round and control him for the last minute of the round.

In the 3rd round I was able to take him down and rocked him with a ground and pound but he recovered enough to keep the fight from being stopped. Then after being stood up I ducked away from a desperate bomb and caght him clean on the jaw with a right and he went down as the fight was stopped.

It felt good to win like that in a gym.

Afterwards I was approached to sign with the WFA for a card. I will be turning pro!

WFA 8

My Fight

Manny Dos Santos Jr. (8-3) vs. Kenny "The Kid" Davis (0-0)

He is 2 years older than me, has a 1 inch reach advantage and is 5 inches taller than me.

1st round - I control the round with a barrage of leg kicks and am able to take him down three diffferent times. I tried a kimora but couldn't sink it in. I was able to cut him during a ground and pound when I took him down after he missed a spinning head kick attempt. I feel like I won that round!

2nd round - I continue to chop him down with my leg kicks and the damage is starting to show near the end of the round as he bagan to stumble afterwards. I also took him down onceand was able to control him on the ground but was unsuccessful at the submission attempt. He did catch me with an overhand right at one point but I was able to shake it off. I feel like I am up 2 round already and just need to get through round 3 for the win.

3rd round - More of the same as I punished him with leg kicks. I could tell how much damage they had done by how easy the takedowns became as I was able to take him down when he was trying to defend quite easily (where earlier in the fight I was unable to take him down if I didn't catch him off guard in my shoot). I was still unable to submit him but controlled the round easily.

I win the desicion easily!!!! I am now 1-0 as a pro!

Game Related Comments

I don't know how this compares to last years as I was all stand and pound before bt I like how the area damage seems to accumulate as I could tell by how my opponent was fighting near the end of the fight that his legs were done in by my leg kicks.

It seems that the sponsor points may work differently this time. I have two sponsors and plastered my hat, shirt and shorts with the max slots for logos but only seemed to get the points for having those two sponsors and not having them in all the slots. If I remember correctly with last year's you could load up 10 slots with the max sponsor and get max credits for it.

If this is the case I actually like this way much better.

Fight 2

10 weeks until my match with Sam Boberg (5-1). My coach tells me that I need to avoid his kicks to be successful. I will try to focus my training on improving my strengths instead of just for this fight.

Week 1: Moderate cardio work, I want to be faster than my opponents and be able to outlast them
Week 2: Rest as the fight and training has me worn down
Week 3: Sparring and working on my takedowns and controlling my opponent on the ground
Week 4: Light speed training
Week 5: Rest
Week 6: 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu to work on rubber guard. I think I am getting close to picking it up, I just seem to be missing on my timing for setting it up just slightly
Week 7: Rest
Week 8: More sparring with focus on takedown and submissions
Week 9: Light strength work
Week 10: Rest as I feel ready for this fight

(I can't believe I did it again, missing game planning; I need to get used to taking advantage of that)

WFA 10

My Match

Kenny "The Kid" Davis (1-0) vs. Sam "Sambo" Boberg (5-1)

He is 4 years older than I am, 3 inches taller but our reach is even.

1st round - Early on I hit him with a couple leg kicks and throw in a right cross or two but then get him to miss on a high kick and take him down. I advance to half guard and get a few shots in on him but am unable to advance past there and the fight gets brought bak to our feet. He gets my attention with a few leg kicks of his own (is this what they feel like, damn I would hate to fight me). We enter the clinch for a bit and I get a couple knees in but we get broken up with little action. We exchange a few leg kicks though I landed a few more to end the round. He did get my attention late with a head kick. I think I won that round as I know I landed more and had a takedown.

2nd round - I start the round out swinging but return quickly to the leg kick. After a minue I see him starting to change his style a bit as he starts trying to throw bombs from outside as he seems to want to avoid the leg kick. Then I see him starting to look alittle gimpy after I land two more solid leg kicks. He goes for another bomb and I duck and take him down. I make a mistake trying to go for a kimura too early and he escapes and we get back to our feet. More punishing leg kicks and the affects are showing on him as he is trying to shake the kicks off and staying back much farther. Then he goes for a spinning head kick and I take him down again. I transition at will and mount him. As I start firing away with punches the round comes to an end. I am owning him at this point.

3rd round - I go right back to chopping him down. Then as he comes in for anothe rhead kick attempt I duck it and connect with a right and then take him down. I open him up with a ground and pound attack and transition to an arm bar and just get it sinked in when the bell rings to end the round.

I win another easy decision and improve to 2-0!!!!

I was impressed with the corner commentary after the second round. My trainer pointed out that my kicks were working and said somethign along eh line of "look at him now, he's trying to go after you with head kicks now, he doesn't want to get near you." Not an exact quote but something along that line. Going to keep an eye on this as I progress to see if the trainer comments are as impressive as I continue. I usually skipped them in last year's game.

WFA 12

My Match

George "Little Daddy" Goodridge (7-3-1) vs. Kenny "The Kid" Davis (2-0)

He is 4 years older than I am and 6 inches taller with a 4 inch reach advantage.

1st round - Had some trouble with his reach early on but then started to land the leg kicks and took him down when he missed a bomb. I rocked him while he was down and opened him up but I tried for a submission when he was blocking my punches butwas unable to sink it in. After we stood up I knocked him down with an elbow and finished the round dominating him on the ground.

2nd round - I started out well as I took him down and opened him up some more. We were brought back to out feet and I got stupid as I connected with a couple shots and tried to stand with him. He connected with a right that staggered me and then put me down with an uppercut to the jaw. I was out for a bit and my head is still hurting.

KO loss, drop to 2-1.

I can only hope to learn from that humiliating defeat. I was in command the entire fight up until that point and got sloppy. I can't stand toe to toe and exchange shots or my career will be over really soon. I must remember my strengths.

WFA 14

My Match

Kenny "The Kid" Davis (2-1) vs. Manny Dos Santos Jr. (8-5)

1st round - I stayed mostly wih the leg kicks and mixed in a few punches to keep him off guard. I took him down twice, the first time we were stood up but the second time I opened him up with a punch from half guard but got reversed when I tried a submission. I got him into rubber guard and was trying a triangle choke but was not successful. He opened up a cut on my cheek with an elbow after we stood up. Close round but I think I won it.

2nd round - I leg kicked the hell out of him to strt the round. Tried to shoot a couple times but he blocked. I caught him with a right and then a left elbow and back to the leg kicks. He started to hobble after my leg kicks and I went to another takedown and brought him down easily this time, the leg kicks seemed to take the strength out of the leg to prevent him from blockng my attempt. I was able to transiciton at will and got into a mounted position to land a few blows but the round ended. I definitely won that round.

3rd round - I continued my pattern with leg kicks to start the round. He was visibly hobbling from these kicks. Finally I shot and took him down after he missed a head kick. From there I transitioned to a mount. He tried to escape several times but I blocked it each time. Finally I got my hands free and started reigning down punches. The ref stepped in and stopped the fight as I get my first TKO victory!!!

I improve to 3-1.

My Match

James "Voodoo" King (9-3) vs. Kenny "The Kid" Davis (3-1)

He is 10 years older than me (I have now turned 21), has a 3 inch height advantage and a 1 inch reach advantage.

1st round - I am in a world of trouble early as I get caught with some bombs and am staggered but continue. He is relentless with the shots and I can't keep him backed off enough. He staggers me with a right and then drops me with an overhand right to the jaw as I am knocked out for the second time.

I drop to 3-2 and need to practice my defense a bit more, I can't let fighters tee off on me like that or I will be brain dead by the time I turn 25.

WFA 18

My Match

Sam "Sambo" Boberg (5-2) vs. Kenny "The Kid" Davis (3-2)

1st round - He tried toget inside me more this time early, I managed to duck some of his punches and take him down. I mounted hkm and got in a few good shots from the top and tried to submit him with an armbar but got reversed. I kept him in guar and eventually got to butterfly guard and pushed him back. On our feet I chopped him down with a few good leg kicks and then cuahgt him with a clean right that made him step back. I believe I won that round.

2nd round - I dominated, his leg is starting t swell up from the leg kicks and he is not able to put a lot of weight on it. I use that to take him down and controlled him on the ground. I tried a kimura but it got reversed, thugh I think I was close to sinking it in. I won that round easily as I added a few very clean shots after getting back to our feet and opened him up.

3rd round - I wore him out this round. I kept up the pressure, took him down for ground and pound. Tried another kimura but he again reversed but I quickly escaped and punished his leg enogh where he wasn;t evn trying to get close as the round neared completion. I wanted to end it though so I cam in close and crushed him with a right that knocked him down just as the bell sounded, another 20 seconds and I would have a TKO but as it turns out I win a easy decision.

I improve to 4-2.

My Match

Kenny "The Kid" Davis (4-2) vs. George "Little Daddy" Goodridge (8-5-1)

1st round - He comes at me quick and hits me with a few but I duck a right and take him down. I transicion quickly to half guard and get my hands free and rock him with several blows as he covers up and recovers before the ref stops it. I did open him up badly in that exchange as he is cut over his left eye and blood is coming out of his nose as I may have broken it. I control him on the canvas for most of the remainder of the round. A little bad blood has formed as he stars me down as the round ends.

2nd round - I take him down early and wear him out on the ground. After we finally are stood up he looks like he won't make it through the round. With about 2 minutes left in the round after I had all but taken his legs out from under him with leg kicks I fire an overhand right that lands cleanly on his jaw and he drops like a ragdoll for the knockout. My first knockout!!!

I improve to 5-2 and maybe give my future opponents something else to think about.

My Match

Paulo "Tigre" Duarte (13-0-1) vs. Kenny "The Kid" Davis (5-2)

He is 3 years older, 5 inches taller and has a 2 inch reach advantage.

1st round - He comes out swinging for the fences, luckily I was able to just evade a spinning backfist and eventually took him down. I kept the action on the canvas most of the round, at one point I opened him up after I mounted him and landed some shots from above. Ifeel like I controlled that round but I still need to stay out of his power range as it would only take one of those shots on the chin to put me down. I worked on his legs near the end of the round after he finally escaped and we got to our feet.

2nd round - I controlled him from the start of the round, more leg kicks and two takedowns. The final one coming late and I was able to mount him and start firing shots but the round ended before I could finish him.

3rd round - I dominted and then tried an ill advised kimura which ended up with a eversal on the ground with me worn out, he started laning shots and the ref stopped the bout with 9 freaking second left in the fight. There is no way I lose if it goes to the judges. I am quite upset with myself for not sticking with my plan of controlling the fight and smothering him.

I fall to 5-3 in what should have been my springboard into something better.

My Match

James "Voodoo" King (10-4) vs. Kenny "The Kid" Davis (5-3)

1st round - Started out landing a lot of leg kicks and then a few rights. He tried to land a right and I ducked and took him down with a single leg takedown. I dominated him on the ground and opened him up with shots from half guard. I go a little impatient and he reversed it but I was quick to escap and get back to my feet. We went into the clinch and I leaned on him and tired him down, though we both got tired out from the clinch and we each landed a few shots. Near the end of teh round I took him down again. I won that round, now I need to fight smart te rest of the way.

2nd round - He got too tight to me early and we exchanged a few blows, I got cut over my left eye in the exchange. I finally got him to the ground and kept him there for about a minute. We're both ooking pretty bad as I am cut and he is cut under both eyes now. This was a close round.

3rd round - I need to finish strong and avoid a bomb. We start out with a few kicks exchanged then I shoot and take him down. I rock him with ground and pound and try to submit him but lose my grip and he escapes. As we get to our feet I hit him with another leg kick that hobbles him then as he drops his guard I hit him with a left elbow and back up for an overhand right that lands on the temple and drops him. I win via KO.

I improve to 6-3!

Not the way I wanted to win but I will take a win.

1st round - He lands a bomb on me early in the fight with a spinning back fist that believe broke my nose. I am able to land a few shots and eventually take him down. I open him up while on the ground with a good ground and pound. He escapes and we go back to our feet where he lands a few brutal shots before I can get him back to the ground where we end the round. Tough round to call and I am hurting and tired already, I need to avoid his bombs and hopefully take him down and lean on him for a while.

2nd round - We both exchange blows early in the round and I am able to avoid anything big. Soon I get trapped against the cage and he steps back with a head kick, at least that is what my trainer told me when I woke up.

I drop to 6-4 with the loss, I will be feeling this one for a while.

My Match

Manny Dos Santos Jr. (9-8) vs. Kenny "The Kid" Davis (6-4)

1st round - Started off dominating, took him down, opened him up with a ground and pound and wore him down. Got careless near the end of the round and he knocked me down with a head kick but I recovered.

2nd round - He cam out firing in this round and we went back and forth. I got him down once but wasted a lot of energy in the process. Near the end of the round I started chopping him down with my leg kicks. Hopefully that pays off in the final round.

3rd round - I dominate the final round with leg kicks and then take him down and find openings to fire shots and open him up worse. I am unable to submit him but I control the round.

I win an easy decision to improve to 7-4!!!

Daisuke Hironaka (12-5) vs. Kenny "The Kid" Davis (7-4)

1st round - I was able to avoid hispunhes and dominated him with kicks and a few well timed punches. I went into the clinch and wore him down with knees inside. Then I took him down and kept the pressure on him. I won theround easily but I don;t want to get too over confident and leave myself open next round.

2nd round - More of the same and I took the wind right out of him with knees and then took him down and got to full mount. Landed a few shots but he held tight until the ref stood us up. I opened him up and he ooks exhausted. I don't get stupid ths one is mine.

3rd round - I am able to take him down three times in the round and try to get the submission but just can't. I win by unanimous decision.

I improve to 8-4.

I think that I may have an idea what I have been doing wrong. Two things, wasn;t sure if it was buttons or stick rotate to keep the submission (last year I believe button mashing also helped hold it). I have a habit of pressing n the stick when I am rotating it as well, that looks like it's a boost to try to sink in the submission will also lead to tiring you out and most likely a broken hold if not done right. I need to be moer careful to not press on the stick (I sometimes accidentally start a submission move when I am just trying to transition on the ground but I accidentally press the stick too so it's a habit I need to change).

My Match

Jessie "The Texas Terror" James (10-1) vs. Kenny "The Kid" Davis (8-4)

He is 9 years older, 4 inches taller and has a 1 inch reach advantage.

1st round - I ducked his early strikes and started to land kicks to the gut and leg kicks. I kept him at bay and wore him down with that approach. I was able to take him down twice and opened him up above his right eye with a little ground and pound. When he covered up I pounded his body to take the wind out from his lungs. I won that round easily.

2nd round - More domination as I used the body kick and sprinkled in some leg kicks again. He is backing up frmo my kicks and I took him down and almost had a kimura sunk in when the bell rang to end the round.

3rd round - I kept to the game plan and didn't allow any of his desperation attemptbombs to connect. He was tiringand I took him down near the end of the round and was able to sink in a kimura and get him to tap! My first submission!!!

I improve to 9-4!!!

I attribute this to my just jumping in and playing without reading or paying attention to the tips that come up in the loading screens. The skill system is much like a who wants to be a millionaire ladder. Your skills will decline if you don't work on them but there are safe steps (30,50,70) where once you reach that level they won't fall below it.

That will help a lot. I spent too much time trying to level up several things and not being able to keep up with the decline. I am now going to try o focus on getting one (or two) at a time up to those levels and then build another.

This does not seem to be the case with the three training areas of strength, cardio and speed however.

1st round - I surprised him by coming out of the gate with a couple rights and a left elbow or two but then I went to work on the body and legs with kicks to wear him out. I took him to the canvas and spent the last minute and a half transitioning and landing shots to the head and ribs. My round easily.

2nd round - I ate him up with kicks to the body and then shot for the takedown, quickly transitioning and dominating him and then going for the kimura and sinking it in as he taps. 2nd straight submission!!!

He is 7 years older, has a 5 inch height advantage and has a 3 inch reach advantage.

1st round - I start the fight out with a couple body kicks to soften him up. Then as he begins to cover up the body I land an overhand right and a lg kick snaps against his front leg. I follow it up with another boy kick and a leg kick. He throws wildly and misses and I tie him up and push him against the cage. While pinning him up against the cage I land multiple knees and he begins to tire. More knees and a few elbows and he is opened up. I try for a taedown but he blocks but he is visibly tired. I lethim off te cage and he waits, trying to gain some energy back so I close and hit him with another leg kick which makes him stumble. He tries a right and I duck it and take him down. I move to half guard and he leaves his arm open for me as I sink in a kimura and crank it hard. He taps for the 1st round submission!

I improve to 11-4 in what I feel has been my best fight yet as I worked him over with precision and kept my focus.

My Match

1st round - I star with a body kick and he comes forward quickly. He lands a couple but I back him off with an overhand right and then go back to the body. I am able to tie him up and we exchange blows in the clinch but I get him up against the cage and start giving him knees to the body. I control the final minute of the round with him against the cage and looking a little tired by the end of the round. I must have won that round.

2nd round - I land multiple body kicks and he is exhausted, I take him down and control him for most of teh round but am unable to sink in a kimura as he escaes both attempts. At the end of the round we are back on our feet and I rock him and knock him down just as time expires in the round. Easily had to be my round, now I need to fight smart for a win.

3rd round - More domination as I control him the entire round. I cannot sink in a kimura or an arm triangle but I control him. Near the end of the fight I rock him and he goes down, I get over him to start firing away but the bell sounds as the fight is over.

I win a unanimous decision with all three scorecards 30-25. The fight got fight of the night honors.

The victory improves my record to 12-4 and I hand Duarte his first professional loss.

My Match

1st round - Griffin starts out slow as I land a couple body kicks and an overhand right, I tried to shoot to take him down but no luck (I need to stop wasting those attempts when there is no chance yet). After that he comes out throwing, he lands a left but I duck a right and take him down. I transiction to half guard and land a couple shots to the ribs but he escapes. He comes out determined with a body kick of his own and two solid punches but I duck the third connect with a right of my own. Then two kicks backs him off a bit. I duck a right and take him down and quickly transiction to half guard and then land a shot squarely and open him up. He tries a kimura that I block and then I land three more hard shots from on top. I try to transition to side control and he escapes. A wild eschange, that I got the wort of, leads to me ducking under and taking him down and getting one more shot from on top before the round ends. Close round but I think I controlled it.

2nd round - Earlythe round starts out with him landing a couple shots before I can take him down but I am unable to take advantage of that. I try to shoot after a few more body kicks but he sprawls and blocks. I tie him up and get him against the cage where I land a couple knees but he reverses and puts me against the cage. As he goes to throw a right I get under it and am able to take him down where I get my hands free and land 3 very good blows to the head. He is able to get his legs out and push me back as he escapes and we are back to our feet with a minute left in the round. I get caught with a kick and then a right that knocks me off balance but I recover and end the round in the clinch landing body blows. Close round to call.

3rd round - The action starts with me landing a few body kicks. He strikes back with a right but I duck and take him down. I transition to half guard and try a kimura but he breaks it though I still have top position. He tries a kimura and I break that and he is left wide open. I fire off 4 hard shots to the head and he tries to escape but I block and get three more hard shots in. Somehow he manages to escape and we get back to our feet. We exchange a few shots, and check a few an then with about 2 minutes left in the round I get hit with a head kick and it opens me up. He tries another and I duck it and take him down. I get him mounted and get a few shots in. Then he gets me to half guard and tries a kimura but I escape and get to side control. I land a few more shots and try an arm triangle but he escapes. Before he can get a shot in I take him back down and the fight ends with me in side control.

The winner, by unanimous decision....

1st round - I start out with a couple kicks to the body and back to the legs. I try a half hearted attemt at a takedown but it doesn't work. Then as he closes I start with a kick but close in and rock him with an overhand right that knocks him down. I jump into guard and manage to get into half guard before landing a couple of shots to the head. I try to get mount but he escapes and we are back to our feet. I land more kicks and a few punches but he catches me with a left that opens me up. I try a takedown but am not successful, I just wanted to get my face out of target range for a couple seconds to see how badly I am cut. I then go back to the body and legs with my kicks. I go to the clinch and push him up against the cage and land knees inside. He escapes from the cage but I pull him to guard to end the round. I feel that I won that round.

2nd round - I exchange kicks with him but land a few extra to both the legs and body. I wait for an opening and take him down. I work my way to half guard where I see an opening and fire a few clean shots to the head, one opens up a cut over his right eye. I then get greedy and try to submit him but he escapes and we are back to our feet. I return to firing off body kicks and get a little careless as he nails me with a combo. I return to being a little more careful and finish out the round with a couple kicks and a few rights thrown in. I think that one goes to me.

3rd round - I come otu firing andmanage to drain the wind frmo his lungs with kicks. I take him down several times but am unable to submit. Then as the round neared the end I rock him back with a forward kick, as he drops to the ground I enter a dominating position over him and pound away and the ref stops the fight.

I am now 14-4 after the TKO victory.

We earn Fight of the Night honors!!!

Main Event

My Match

1st round - A rough round for me as he kept coming after me but I did open him up with some rights and an elbow, I tried to keep him in the clinch for a while and wear him down with knees inside. He knocked me down a couple times with strikes which makes me unsure of teh scoring of that one and I am not confident that I won that round.

2nd round - I work the body with kicks and then work on taking the strength out of his legs. Most of the round is on our feet but I get one takedown but am unable to improve position past half guard. I feel that round was easily mine.

3rd round - I control the round withmy kicks and take him down three times but am unable to submit him. I should have won the figh with winnng rounds two and three with one a tossup.

Ouch, thought I had the victory but it ends as a draw. I am now 14-5-1. I guess that happens when it gets left in the hands of the judges.

My Match

1st round - Early in the round I knocked him down with a right but he recovered and he had me agains the cage in the clinch and was able to take me down but I escaped. I was able to land a few nice shots in but eventualy we ended in the clinch and he got me against the cage again and then threw me down (I need to learn to defend that better). I tried to escape and he briefly had my back but I was able to escape. Close round but I would have lost it because of those takedowns (in my opinion).

2nd round - I start the round out being able to strike cleanly, both with kicks and punches. He ties me up and eventually pulls guard after I land some knees inside. I open him up with a little ground and pound but he eventually escapes. I completely wear him down with kicks to the body and legs, he is hobbling. I shoot for the takedown when he misses a wild kick attempt. I transition to half guard and try a kimura, I just start to crank it and the round ends.

3rd round - I am able to take him down a coule times and at one point get to side control and pound his side with knees. He gets away I am unable to get him back down bt I punish him with kicks. His side is red and swollen as are his legs. The round ends and it goes tothe scorecards.

The winner by unanimous decision...

Kenny "The Kid" Davis!!!!

I improve to 15-5-1.

My Match

1st round - I can tell he is waiting for me to shoot so I start by firing punches. As he adjusts to that I start to chop himk down with leg and body kiks totake the wind out from his lungs and the strength from his legs. I leave myself open and he connects which cuts me but I quickly recover and drill him with with a right and open him up. I follow it by an elbow and another right. He is staggered. I load up with another right and he stumbles down. I get in a dominant position and start pounding his head and the ref pulls me off for a TKO!!!!

I improve to 16-5-1.

My Match

1st round - We both came out throwing and landed several kicks and punches. I take him down but can't get past half guard and at one point he hs be against the cage in a clinch but I am able to escape. The round ends with us trading punches. Too close to call.

2nd round - I come out with a few kicks and then tie him up and start landing knees inside. I lose focus for a second and he takes me down. I can't believe how this guy just keeps coming. I hit him with a couple of hard shots but he keeps moving forward. Then I leave an opening when I throw a right and he rocks me with a left. Before I can cover up he comes back over the top with a powerful right to my jaw and I don't remember much after that. I lose a knockout and fall to 16-6-1. My PPV debut was anything but memorable.

Near the end of th round he takes me down and as I try to escape he gets me in a knee bar and I have to tap as it feels like my knee is about to pop.

1st round - On our feet for most of the round and he cuts me with a hard right but I wear him down in teh clinch against the cage and with body shots. I want them to pay dividends later in the fight. Round was too close for me to call.

2nd round - I work the body more ad then get him against the cage and land knees. Unfortunately I get too predictable and he grabs my leg and takes me down. AQs I try to escape he grabs my leg and puts a heel lock on me whioch I cannot escape and I am forced to tap.

I have to do a better job defending these things. I am quite upset about dropping yet another fight and am now 16-8-1.

I open him up with ground and pound and wear him down. The round ends with me trying an arm triangle but no luck that time. I win that round easily.

2nd round - I punish him with shots to the head and take him down when he tries to throw a punch. Ground and pound opens up the ct again and has his eye swollen badly. I try a kimura but he somehow escapes and gets to his feet. I hit him with a solid body kick and he crumbles a bit in pain and then follow it up with a strong left and he drops. He is out. My Match

Kurt "Batman" Pellegrino (18-11) vs. Kenny "The Kid" Davis (17-8-1)

1st round - I try to catch him off guard by starting out throwing punches. It works as I catch him with a right and open him up. I follow ith shots to the body and kicks to the legs. I am starting to chop him down as we clinch and I land a few knees inside. I shoot and take him down near the end of the round and get him mouned to land a few more shots as th round ends. My round, no doubt.

2nd round - I punish him all round. His ribs are red and swollen and he is starting to feel those leg kicks, plus he is broken open around his eyes. I get him down near the end of the round and try a kimura but somehow he has the strength to escape. He can't avoid being mounted and pounded until the bell sounds to end the round. Freaking tap already, unless you don't want to be able to remember the worst beating that you will ever take!

3rd round - I go for the knockout as I start to fire away with shots and then back to kicks to take his legs out from under him. The fool will not go down. I trap him agains the cage and fire knees inside but can't get him down against the cage. I let him back to the middle and he tags me with a right that cuts me. Then he goes for a kick but I drop and take him down and go for a knee bar and sink it in. He finally taps.

With the submission I improve to 18-8-1.

A few body and leg kicks and I have him trying to throw and then back up as he doesn't seem to way to stand in front of me. I keep working the body and the legs to keep him winded and unable to move. A few more rights and elbows keep him hurting. Late in the round I shoot for the takedown and bring him down, I transition and he tries to escape and I throw an ankle lock on him and sink it in. He taps with just second left in the round.

I improve to 19-9-1.

I try a kimura but he escapes and reverses but I escape and get back to my feet as he has used up his energy. After playing two careers, it is much, much easier to play a striker than a grappler. The flash KO can come at anytime, while it's a lot of work to really excel in the ground.

Yes that is the main complain in the official forum and at OS forums, flash KO's are too frequent while winning by submission vs the CPU is extremely hard. I guess it will end fixed in a patch.

I can definitely see that. Especially when watching fights. I only watch fights between guys that should be most likely pounders or there wouldn't be any submissions for the CPU guys either. Even though I see there tends to be style differences where some go to the ground more than others they still usually end in a flash KO from what I have seen.

My suggestions on maximizing points..

I've found a chintzy way to maximize my points in free sparring: I have a slam that takes me to side control (Clinch, learned clinch to body lock, learned suplex to side control)..Then I start throwing knees and little rabbit punches. Once the guy tries to get out from underneath, I transition to north/south and throw rabbit punches (doesn't matter how much damage you do, all it tracks are blows landed). When they try to get out there, transition back to side control and start over

At the level I'm at (even with low level difficulty), I'm earning something like 70 points per session thanks to the bonus from the high level trainer, and sheer amount of points from little hits.

My Fight

Kenny "The Kid" Davis (20-10-1) vs. Hermes Franca (21-15)

1st round - I land a few shots to the head and cut him early. I start working the body and is legs and then take him down. I am able to mount him and use ground and pound to open him up even more but then I try a kimura and he escapse. We return to our feet and I take him down again. This time he tries a triangle choke but I escape. I work his body and legs and I can see it wearing him down. I take him down near the end of the round and try a kimura which I almost ge but he lasts to the bell.

2nd round - I start out tagging him with body kicks. Soon I shoot and take him down and rocfk him with ground and pound but he covers and the ref doesn't stop it. I frustration I let him up, as he staggers to his feet I hit him cleanly with an overhand right and he drops, out cold. No doubt that time ref, you could have prevented that by stopping it earlier. He is still out as the results are announced.

I actually stood up that last game because he was covering just enough and I had hoped if I stood up I would have been able to stand over him and throw but he staggered to his feet.

If this was a real fight that ref would have been questioned about not stopping this one. I don't think I have bloodied anyone as badly as that fight. I actually had other chances to pound him while he was dazed but I tried to submit instead and had no luck (figured my fighte is supposed to be more of a submission fighter.

My Match

1st round - I start out toe to toe with him and we both land some shots but I open him up a bit more than he opens me up. He catches a kick and takes me down but I end up escaping. Near the end of teh round he knocks me down with a left but I get back to my feet and land solid elbows and lefts before the round ends. Too close to call but we were toe to toe just throwing for much of that round. I am trying to avoid the submission as he has a very good ground game.

2nd round - I start with body and leg kicks to soften him up. It starts to back him up then as he closes I stagger him a little with an elbow, then a left stuns him. I follow with an overhand right to the temple and he drops and it out. I win my first PPV event, by a KO!!!

I do even worse.

I just do the side suplex to side control from the clinch without the body lock.

Clinch, Suplex, Stand up.

Just do that same sequence over and over again without throwing any punches, and I get 110 points.

Has anyone tried to win the title in the ladder mode? I tried this once and I couldn't believe the skill level it seems to jump for the title match.

I tried in beginner level and the first 6 matches had me thinking that I should have tried a higher skill level. Then the second to last fight was a little tougher and I actually lost once to submission and when I retried I won easily.

Thought the title match would be about the same but it has been insane. I have been tapped out every time I have tried. Even if I rock my opponent they recover before I can even mount an attack to take advantage of it. One point I rocked my opponent and he proceeded to take me down (while the "rocked" affect was still going on). Once he took me down the affect wore off and he submitted me.

Many of those submissions had me tapping before I could even try to defend, would barely start to move the right stick and would here "it's all over".

One fight I rocked my opponent 3 times. Two of them he fell to the ground and before I was even able to get over him to throw a punch the affect was over. The third time he was stillstanding and I landed a head kick and a couple punches but the affect wore off with no further advantage. E then took me down and submitted me.

I was playing as Liddell in this mode.

If this is the beginner mode, I can't imagine what the highest skill level would be like by the time you reach the title fight.

I couldn't believe how extreme the jump in difficulty was. To be honest I probably could have made it through the secodn to last fight without that one submission but I was getting too cocky and had my opponent rocked at one point and tried to setup a perfect looking head kick for the KO but wasn't able to before the affect wore off. He then tied me up and took me down before submitting me.

1st round - It felt good hearing "We are live" prior to the introductions for the first time ina PPV event for me. As the bell rings I come out quickly and land a couple of punhes and elbows to his head before going to eh body with kicks. I get careless and ke knocks me down with a punch but I quickly get back to my feet. As he comes forward again I drill him with a right and then an elbow. He hesitates and I land a right that rocks him, then en elbow to the jaw and he stumbles to the canvas. I get on top and start to fire away but he covers up and the ref doesn't stop the fight as he starts to regain a little sense. He gets back to his feet. He ties me up and I land a few knees inside and I make a mistake by going for a takedown. He sprawls and gets my back. I am able to flip and pull him into guard but he tries a kimura and I escape. He transition and mounts me. I try to escape but he grabe my arm and tries an armbar. I clasp my hands to try to prevent it but he pulls them apart and cranks the armbar hard. I am unableto escape and I eventually tap.

This did not go well, I drop to 22-11-1. I thought I had him and got careless.

My Match

1st round - I come out like a stand up fighter and land several shots. I open him up under his right eye with several elbows but I also work the body and legs. I knock him down one time but he gets back to his feet. Near the end of the round he knocks me down and quickly gets ontop of me in guard. He manages to mount but he round comes to an end. close round due to his late surge.

2nd round - He comes out quickly but I back him off with a couple very solid rights and a body kick. He tries to stand toe to te with me and I rock him with a left elbow, he looks dazed as he stands in front of me. I load up a right and launch it at his jaw and he drops flat. I have avenged the tap out losses and have improved to 26-11-1!!!

Looks like you were going pretty well last night.

How far are you into this career now? I thought you had seven out of twelve seasons earlier? Is there a point where the aging process starts to diminish your fighting capabilities, prior to you being forced out?

I'll say for sure when I load it up later but I think I am around year 9, may be getting near the end of that year.

It does look like it is starting to get a little harder to keep the skills up and the training seems to wear me down more.

dola: Funny thing is the extremely low number of fights for BJ Penn. I think he had something like one fight over the first three years of my career and then only had a fight or two over the next three years.

My Match

1st round - I start out with two quick kicks to the body and then punish him with a couple rights and elbows and open him up over his right eye. I work the body and land a few more blows to the head and knock him down with one. He gets back to his feet and I start to get careless as I try for the knockout with punches and get knocked down with a head kick. Luckily it only caught me off balance and I quickly get back to my feet. I go back to working the body and take him down with a minute left in the round. I transition to half guard and then to side control. Near the end of the round I try a kimura but the round ends. I feel confident that I won that round. I need to avoid his bombs in the next round or I could get caught and lose if I get sloppy.

2nd round - The round starts out slow for the fist 30 seconds as we exchange a few jabs. I get in close and hit him with an elbow, then a right that stuns him and I land a clean straight left on his jaw and he drops!!!! I win by knockout!!!!

I improve to 27-11-1.

1st round - I wanted to keep this one on our feet, though I planned submissions that was more for defense. I start out firing rights and elbows. I cut him under his right eye with an elbow and he is hurt badly under his right eye. I see the bruise begin to grow as I continue to punish him. It seems like his eye is starting to close and I start using it as a bullseye. He tries for a takedown and I block. Before he can step back I step into him with a right and he drops straight down. He is out. I win with a knockout!!!

It's frustrating that it seems like I can forget about going for a submission. Once I hit the PPV events it seems that I have zero chance in submitting someone. I have to get their stamina too low and even they they escape. At that point I usually end up with a flash KO.

I went back to my old style of being a standup fighter because of that. I will strill try for a submission if I have a chance but I am not expecting one.

My Match

1st round - It starts out poorly as I land a couple kicks but he catches me off balance with a right and I stumble. He takes advantage and takes me down and passes my guard. I try to get out and he gets my back. I eventually get to my feet but he still has my back. After 30 second of blocking all his attempts to take me down the referee split us apart. He again takes me down with ease and tries an arm triangle but I escape. I get back to my feet and land a few solid punches, they seem to slow him down. He takes me down again as the roung ends. Not a round that I won.

2nd round - I try to stay on my feet and we start exchanging some big blows. He again takes me down and I escape. I knocked him down nead the end of the round but he gets back up. He takes me down near the end of the round but nothing comes of it. Another round that I am not confident about. I have hurt him with some of my punches, I just need to avoid his better.

3rd round - My longest fight in a while. Early in the round he takes me down and I am in trouble as he mounts. I try to escape but am having trouble getting out. He tries a kimura and I escape that but then he tries an arm triangle and I have nothing left to escape and eventually tap.

I blew my chance with a tap out. I fall to 29-12-1.

Then I go to the body and legs. I want him tied and limping. I shoot and take him down and transition at will. I get side control and hit him with knees to the body and a few shots to the head. I try a kimura but he escapes. We get back to our feet and I land a few more body kicks and take him down near the end of the round. He is tired and bloodied. I won that round easily.

2nd round - I start out withmore body blows and then take him down. I wear him out on the ground but I try an ill advised submissiona nd he escapes and gets back to his feet but he s looking very shaky. He fires a left which I sidestep and the land a right square on his temple and he drops and is out cold. He isn't even up yet as they are announcing the result.

I try to escape and he gets my back but I get to my feet. After little action we are seperated. I used up a lot of energy there. I land a hard left that cuts him and a couple more strikes that back him off. He senses trouble and comes in for a takedown but I block it against the cage. He leans on me against the cage for a while but nothing happens and we are separated again. I land a few more hard shots and he is bleeding badly. He pins me against the cage and throws me o the canvas. He throws a kimura on me and I have to tap with just 8 seconds left in the round.

I'll try to get this going again this week.

Had played my other character lately and finished his career. Wondering what you have to do to make it to the HoF though. That character won the ligh theavyweight title twice then moved up to heavyweight and won that. The last loss of his career was when he lost the light heavyweight title (after the first time winning it) and then went on to win about 15 in a row to close out his career. Was 19-9 at one point and finished out his career 44-10 and never went to the scorecard.

Oh, on a game related note. Has anyone noticed that after you get halfway through your career the locations of the UFC events start to get strange. It seemed like the only two places I saw for an event were Montreal and London for the last 6 years of that career.

Plus in the career ths thread is about it seems that most of my fights have been at the O2 arena in London over the past 3 or 4 years.

Kenny "The Kid" Davis (33-14-1) vs. Tyson Griffin (21-14)

1st round - The match starts out with a little of everything, a few punches and some kicks to the body and legs. I take him down and transition to half guard but can't pass. He tries a kimura on me but I escape. As we both get to our feet an exchange cuts us both. I take him down with about a minute left and control him on the ground. I wear him down that round and should have won the round.

2nd round - I soften him up a little and then take him down when he goes for a kick. I transition to a mount and land a couple blows before he gets back to half guard and tries a kimura, he almost sinks it but I escape bu am feeling it. We get back to our feet. I land a strong right and a left elbow that opens him ven more then I go after his legs wih leg kicks. He hammers me with a right and I am feeling that one but I counter with an elbow that backs him off a little. The round ends with my left eye closing a bit and with a huge taret over his left eye. I think I won that round but it's too close to call.

3rd round - I land a couple leg kicks and then take him down. After trying a couple transitions and landing a few blows he escapes. I try to go after the body with a kick but he knocks me down with a right that caugt me off balance. I scramble back to my feet and he comes after me hard but I duck his punches and throw a hard overhand right that drops him like a brick. I win via knockout.

UFC 211

My Match

BJ "The Prodigy" Penn (20-11) vs. Kenny "The Kid" Davis (34-14-1)

1st round - I start out chopping him down with kicks to the body and legs. I duck anything he is throwing and then land a couple rights. He catches me off guard with a left and I fall off balance. He jumps into guard and I manage to escape. I start chopping him down again with kicks to the body and legs. I land a crushing right that staggers him and take him down. I end the round with a mount but unable to get my hands free for ground and pound. I won that round.

2nd round - I start out chopping him down some more and then go for a kick that he catches and takes me down. He tries a kimura and almost lands it but I escape but he is able to mount me. I try to escape but he gets my back. I eventually pull out of that and lan a few punishing shots to his ribs. I can see that he is hurting and very tired. I take him down but cannot pass guard. He tries another kimura and almost gets it sunk in but I finally get my arm out. I am feeling that but he seemed to use up what was left in his tank. I scramble back to my feet and he backs off. I come forward and let loose with a right that lands clean on his chin and he drops. I win via knockout with seconds left in the round.

I improve to 35-15-1 and have earned a shot at the title.

Other News

I have decided that my body has taken enough punishment. As much as I love the sport I am going to make this my final year. Hopefully I can go out on top.

UFC 213

My Match

Diego "Nightmare" Sanchez (35-12) vs. Kenny "The Kid" Davis (35-14-1)

1st round - I come ut firing but careful to avoid the takedown. I cut him early and then rock him but he recovers. He takes me down but I escape. I try to throw a punch but he takes me down again. I manage to excape again. I block a takedown and exchange a couple punches, one cuts him over his left eye. He gets me against the cage and then throws me down but I quickly escape and get back to my feet. He shoots for a takedown but I step aside and then land a crushing blow that stuns him, then another right puts him own. I jump on him and begin ground and pound and the ref pulls me off with seconds left in the round. I win via TKO.

The winner... and NEEEEEEWWWWWW UFC LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPION of THE WORLD!!!!

I improve to 36-15-1 with that win!!!!

Thanks, was starting to think I wouldn't get it done with this guy. I would guess that I have maybe 3 more fights remaining, hopefully all title defenses. :)
