I would like to nominate my old lady aka the old ball and chain aka the warden, for enshrinement into the WHoF for her latest act.

About a week ago I mentioned that I wanted to watch all six of the Star Wars films in succession over a few weeks just for the hell of it. I told her I'd be up for doing it when she wasn't around so she wouldn't have to put up with it, fully expecting her to agree and go out shopping or some such. Instead she laid me out flat on my back by telling me she wanted to watch them with me. Awesome.

So this past Thursday we started up with Ep I and actually wound up getting through Ep III by Sunday night. After the movie I decided to ask her what she thought so far, opening the door for her to back out of the arrangement. The next hour was spent with her volunteering various aspects of the series that she liked, characters that grew on her and ultimately ultimately ended with her saying "you think we can watch the next three this week?" Awesome. She likes Obi-Wan, Yoda & R2. She doesn't like Anikan or Jar Jar. She's thoroughly enjoying the movies and I couldn't be happier.

So, what has your sig other done that has knocked your socks off? Lets try to keep this non-sexual...that means you Pumpy.

My girlfriend, an opera major who once left a Patriots game her Dad took her to, has become a Philadelphia convert. She owns a Chase Utley jersey shirt, and studies the players so she knows what I'm talking about when I complain about who's screwing up.

She is also to blame for me getting way back into Dave Matthews Band, though far more than I was before my divorce five years ago. She got tickets for us when they came to Hartford in 2008. The combination of the show's quality, as well as the quality of the tape that sufficed, along with my finally figuring out how to operate torrents, got me back into the band. I won tickets to two DMB shows in Wisconsin last year, five days before the shows were to be held. She took time off of work so we could drive out on a whim. She has gotten into the band with me, following the history (granted, 2008 was a very unique time to get back into the band) and putting up with me taking a lot of videos at concerts (ahem: http://www.youtube.com/jcomey )

She also decided to buy tickets to the US soccer friendly in East Hartford, and actually told me to spend my recent poker winnings on an iPad.

I guess she's not too bad.

For the last 2 years, the plan was my wife's gift to me for Father's Day would be playing WoW with me all day. For various reasons, it didn't work out both times.

This passed Saturday, we played for 90 minutes before the US WC match and I was fairly satisfied with that. Around 6pm, we couldn't find anything to watch on tv and she suggest we go play that game again. We played until 10pm.

Yes yes, obligatory response. Poor form, at that.

Second Christmas we were dating, she got me the entire Beatles catalogue on CD. Well, she missed the Yellow Submarine album, but that was a plus in my book.

My wife staged a coup in my winter bowling league to oust the incumbent league president and get me voted into his place. It worked perfectly.

My ex-wife left me two days after my dog died, and one day after I lost my job. That was a great week.

Welp that has me beat.

Mine went:
Wife left
Grandpa died a couple of months later
Got laid off a few months after that

All within a 8 month period. I can't even imagine having all that compressed into a week.

This is going back a bit now - but when my wife and I first got together she saw soccer as something strange which English men like .... well after listening to her moan about me watching it incessantly I decided enough was enough and cadged some tickets to a Man City match.

We couldn't find baby sitters and so ended up with me, Becca and the three kids in tow - sitting beside a couple of skinheads who swore incessantly throughout the match (although they did turn around afterwards each time and say 'sorry love' to Becca :D).

The match wasn't 'great' - but the atmosphere was good (as it is at most City matches, one of the reasons I opted for them) and Becca was hooked.

Fast forward a few years, Becca has a decent working knowledge of the sport and has a Man City tatoo on her back .... oh and our youngest child is named Keegan after Kevin Keegan who was Man City's manager at the time he was born.

PS - Why did I opt to take her to a City match over Brighton, well I wanted Becca to love the sport like I do and Brighton were in our free-fall through the divisions and ground sharing with Gillingham at the time ... which meant a 3 hour train trip to get to the ground, which was only sparsely populated at the best of times .... oh and a couple of valentines days back I gave her a DVD of a Man City match as a present .... match was Brighton beating them a few months before in the FA Cup, she's forgiven me .... but she hasn't watched the DVD yet ;)

My wife has down countless things for me, but this summer is a great example.

For three years we had been going to England as a family while I work at a boarding school. We backed out a couple of years ago to finish having kids, job hunt, etc. Well, this March I got a call saying someone had backed out last minute.

We had already put our tax check to use for projects around the house and to buy Disney tickets which we planned to use this July. There was no way we could all afford to come to England, and we both knew if I turned down the spot we may not get back in for several years.

My wife and I both loved our time in England. She finally told me to go, as long as I could make sure I could get a spot next year for us all to go. So she gave up a Disney trip (which we may or may not get a chance to reschedule) and she's home with the kids and I"m here in England working.

It sucks from that stand point, but she's an amazing person for doing it. To be honest, I probably would have turned this job down had she wavered at all. I just keep thinking, and hoping, having us all here next year will be worth it.

My wife told me to go to Gencon this year for a few days since I've been wanting to go again for awhile.

That sounds like my wife and I. I talk all day at work, since I train people for a living, when I get home I tend not talk, she makes up for me in that department.

Just to name a few things, when we bought our house, she let me design a theater room and have it built before we moved in. Once we did move in, she suggested we break in the theater by watching all six Star Wars movies in one sitting. We did this another weekend with the three extended edition LotR movies. Oh, and when we got married (7 years ago), she insisted that we add a PS2 to our wedding registry. She also occasionally insists that I drink beer. I think I've got it pretty good. :)

So, does she have any interest in a 27 year old out in the bay area? :D

I think the Star Wars test is some sort of guy nerd cred (which all of us are). I've done the original trilogy a bunch of times. :D

My wife (it's our anniversary today, though don't ask me how many years...may be tenth, shit...honestly realizing this as I type and perhaps a little more then a Wii game and a goofy card should have been purchased) has always supported my sports teams. I was a Packer fan, before we were married she set up a whole trip to Green Bay in which I saw my only Packer game at Lambeau Field so far, and Reggie Whites last game a s a Packer. She has set up all our trips to Houston in which we usually see 2 Astros games and a Dynamo game. Just this month she talked me into going out of town for a week to get my soccer coaching National D license, which I am glad she did now.

Not enough BJs though, not sure she should qualify for a HoF.

When I first got married my wife didn't understand my (very slight) obsession with soccer - we lived in England so she was thoroughly bemused by my friends and I endlessly discussing it and my compulsion with watching matches or worse still watching the results come in on a saturday afternoon*.

Eventually after some cajoling I managed to persuade her to attend a match - was Man City against someone (can't remember who) and she loved it, she now has a Man City tattoo in the small of her back ..... only real problem is I'm a Brighton supporter myself and have to put up with her gloating about how City are doing in comparison to them on a regular basis ;)

*Before cable got 'big' if I didn't attend a match or listen to it on the radio then I'd watch Teletext which was just basic text which updated every few seconds as goals came in.

My wife probably reads more of this board than I do these days, and that allowed her to read my lamenting post in the GenCon thread earlier this year. Essentially I figured that after our trip to Disney World that I would have to put off my planned trip to GenCon for at least another year.

Imagine my surprise, when a few hours later she tells me that she had read the post, and told me to book the room in Indy.

So there is that, and she lets me out of the house every Wednesday night for D&D. She doesn't even call it D&D in front of normal people or her family for that matter. Plus she is pretty willing to play host to pretty much anyone I can convince to come to the house to play board games.

All in all I'm not really sure why she puts up with me.

My wife stays home with our son 5 days a week and she works the weekend shift (friday night, sunday days) so we don't have to pay for daycare. We have sacrificed our weekend for about a year now but she makes sure the moments we do spend together is time well spent.

That's good enough for me to put her in the HOF!

And that she's carrying our second child so, yeah there's that, too.
