Hello all! I'm trying to find a book I read twice from my childhood and I cannot remember the title, author, etc. I was wondering if you could help me, here is what I remember.
I remember:
1). The book was told from the perspective of a boy in rural America.
2). There was climbing a nearby hill, and waterfall with swimming
3). It would have to be been published prior to 1987-ish, because I read it in 4th and 5th grade, once each.
4). The book climaxes with the boy going somewhere in a snow storm, and then a panther attacks him and he is knocked unconscious but manages to kill it, but it bit his shoulder. It has the line, "I awoke with the tang of blood in my mouth" after he has killed off the panther.
5). The cover I remember had a Black Panther crouching as if to attack in a corner, or off to the side.
6). It was in my public school's library, so it could not have been too obscure.
That's all I remember.
Can anyone help? Anyone know the book, or have ideas?
