The Officialish FOFC Cup II Seedings

After entering all pertinent data including horoscope, favorite pizza and paper or plastic?, 39 hours straight on the supercomputers at NASA, and a committee consisting of a dog, blind fish, an old maid and a ferret, these are the official seedings of FOFC Cup III.

What does this mean? Well it will be used for groupings which in the next couple of days I will make a poll in the dynasty poll forum so everyone can vote on the format.

Note: This competition will continue for 9-10 weeks straight. There will be NO break this season. If you believe you can't commit to up to 10 weeks (another cup commitment etc), then let me know immediately!

Well, if anyone quits the tourney, my friend Achilles would like his Missouri tigers to take their spot, or move everyone else up and put him in...he is 10-0, has auto-promotion spot right now, and just beat the league favorites 5-0...i know he has talent on his team, as he has my ex-keeper, and he has an explosive offense....hes not at my level yet, but he has the ability to beat the last 10-20 seeds....give him strong consideration for any openings..i know he will give a strong outing for any opponent.

He is also playing in the weakest division in D5 according to HatStats.

Sorry GoldenEagle, I announced it in here, in a hattrick fed email and on the general discussion forum.

If its true about heybrad not participating, I would like to put myself back in. I took myself out for ravenhawk. However, if one other person besides you signs up then I can make it 72:

12 groups X 6 per group = 5 games = 5 weeks

Winner of each group + top-4 second place finishers go to single-elimination 16 team tournament = 4 weeks

Total = 9 weeks

OR

12 groups X 6 per group = 5 games = 5 weeks

Winner of each group(12) + 2nd place in each group(12) + 8 top 3rd place finishers(8) go to single elimination 32-team tournament = 5 weeks

Total:= 10 weeks

So if I can get one more team (someone in FOFC) besides you then we will be all set.

When do we actually start ?

We will start as soon as everyone is out of their country cups. There are still some teams in so it could be 2 or 3 more weeks, but probably 2.


PS: By the way in case anyone was curious how I did the seeds, the first 5 were automatics from last year's cup and consolation cup. The other 65 were according to Frogman's rankings as of 19.02.

well, since golden eagle joined in december 2002, and naiwf in march 2002, shouldn't achilles get a spot over either due to seniority...achilles has been a member since january 2002, bleed with us in x-com and joined us in many other interactive dynasties...???...why should he just be pushed away because he doesn't post as often...???...i believe that he should recieve a pot before the others, or at least after golden(his post count is higher than mine)...i see no reason for naiwf to be ahead of him for a spot...

An excellent question. I am working on this during the weekend and a couple of people have sent scheduling formats. I will have more info early next week.

FOFC Cup I: 12 teams
FOFC Cup II: 32 teams

They were both single elimination except the very first round of Cup II which was a home-and-home.

With 72, you could do 8 groups of 9 (8 weeks) with only the 8 group winners advancing (3 weeks) for a total of 11 weeks (too long?). Or add in the 8 2nd place teams, and have 12 weeks (who says we have to finish this season? :p)

Absolutely! And by that logic, I think NAIWF should get the spot over Horned since he registered June 2002. And I'm sure Bee registered before a few other people. Rock on!

I don't have a problem with achilles or with who gets in. Whether it's NAIWF or achilles, two things will be true: 1) it'll be a blast and 2) Horned rocks for the work he has done. I just don't agree with using registration time or post count as the deciding factor.

PS - Horned better not try to appease more people by pulling himself out of the Cup again (grrr!). I want another visit to the disgusting Pond, darn it! :)

I absoulutley agree that horned should be in first in the turnament, but im talking about the two spots they want to create to make 72...horned is taking heybrads spot...what reason is there to take the others over me?....im just trying to argue a friendly point, and your argument about it being the worst division in V is due to the fact that 6 teams in the conference had walkovers....kinda brings down the average a bit....so look at talent before maing incorrect judgements

I don't feel that I'm owed the team, and odds are I would only last 1 round anyway, so whatever decision is made is fine by me.

I'm not sure if this was a response to my post or not, but in case it was . . .

1) The "they" that wanted to add the 2 spots were merely folks here suggesting bringing the number to 72 to make the math easier for the poor fellow attempting to set this up.

2) There is no reason why those folks SHOULD be taken over you. Their name came up before yours because they posted in the thread to say they wanted in.

3) I actually didn't make any point about your division or its strength. I'm a tad too lazy to look at either your division or do the work on hatstat [I actually haven't looked at my OWN conference]. The person that originally brought up how good or not good your conference is was blades. Nobody else really care about how good or bad your team is to participate in this Cup. Otherwise, we'd be kicking me out in favour of TP [I heart getting to post inadequate ratings in threads with formidables and excellents, *sigh*]. As Havok mentioned, chances are most teams will be mixing in a liberal amount of B-squadders to minimize injuries and maximize training anyhow. The Cup is mainly about bragging rights and humour . . . and see who can avoid Crawfishies on their y'know-where.

We toss the teams on the waiting list into The Condemned Mud Pond. Toss in the Crawfish with Laserbeams. The team stays in the Pond the longest gets in. :)

Ok, I have fixed the list up top with the new entries and who is on the waiting/sub list.

Achilles, I picked NAIWF because he himself responded first in the thread. There is no politics or anything going on ok?

I took myself out again because of a clerical error on my own part. It was not fair to Aesyrqwe because of my own stupid error.

Please keep in mind there is a chance a couple of openings may open up again. If not, there will always be next season's cup.

Just remember it's all for fun, if no one has fun it would defeat the purpose! :)

Actually that is possible. The 6 on the waiting list make another group of 6. That would make 78 teams, so a quick revision of the old proposals:

13 groups X 6 per group = 5 games = 5 weeks

Winner of each group + top-3 second place finishers go to single-elimination 16 team tournament = 4 weeks

Total = 9 weeks

OR

13 groups X 6 per group = 5 games = 5 weeks

Winner of each group(13) + 2nd place in each group(13) + 6 top 3rd place finishers(6) go to single elimination 32-team tournament = 5 weeks

This way no one has to sit out. But this also means that no more entries unless its 6 more teams. But for my sanity, it will be closed for sure.

What I will now do is allow the next FrogMan ranking to count for the seedings.

This way everyone is happy and no one feels left out. So for all the teams on the sub list, be 100% sure you are on dacman's team list although I think everyone is.

So what I will do is make a new thread with the absolute final rankings and should have the groups setup by midweek at the latest with all the schedules so you know who you are playing for 5 weeks when we start.

If its split then I say the team with the larger stadium gets the home game. That way I can actually make some money :D

Home teams get 2/3 in cup matches, and since this is an unofficial cup, the matches will be friendlies.

For the seedings, I think it would be fair (money wise) to put non US teams in separate divisions and have them host 3 games and have 3 away games. This way, they would only have to spend 2 time 6k in travel expenses.

I can be more precise if needed, but I guess you are seeing my point.
