The format is great. However, you can't use it, the trade AI is worse then ever.

Anyone hear how long til it's fixed?

Not original with me but classic and VERY true concerning OOTP or ANY other computer game with trading AI:

Person one: The trading AI is too easy.
Person two: The trading AI is too hard.
Person three: I agree with #1. This is broken, fix it.
Person four: I agree with #2. This is broken, fix it.
Person five: I think it's fine.
Persons 1-4: You're wrong. It's obviously broken. This sucks. Fix it.
Persons 2 and 4: Yeah, because I'd like to be able to make a trade.
Persons 1 and 3: What are you talking about? I can make any trade I want. I can make trades I don't want. I can make trades without turning on the computer. FLAWED!
Person six: Why don't you try only making trades you think are fair?
Person 1: Because the game is broken, and it needs to be fixed. I shouldn't have to make my own rules. It should be fixed the way I want it, making trading harder.
Person 3: Absolutely.
Persons 2 and 4: NO! EASIER! My god, I haven't made a trade in 27 seasons.
Persons 1 and 3: HARDER!
Persons 2 and 4: EASIER!
Persons 1 and 3: HARDER!
Persons 2 and 4: EASIER!
Persons 1 and 3: HARDER!
Persons 2 and 4: EASIER!
Person 5: I still think it's fine. I don't know what you guys are talking about.
Persons 1-4: Fanboy.
Person 5: Malcontent.

I've been following the dialogue on the .400 board. I've been simming and not playing in-depth, so I don't know who is right/wrong, but considering that Marcus just went on vacation, I'm assuming it will be a couple of weeks before anything is changed - assuming he thinks a change is warranted.

From the level of fanboy vitriol and the "official" comments from Steve Kuffrey, I doubt they even think it is something that needs to be fixed.

It's not good when you can offer a 33 year old pitcher who hasn't pitched above AA for 5 years and get 2 prospects (not great ones, but prospects) that are 18 and 20 years old.

This is with scouts off.

That's another thing I'd love. Scouts on. Coaches Off. Instead of them being combined.

Edit: I thought the trading was as good as it had been with 5.01, this was a huge step back.

You mean the classic, "Don't do those type of trades" or "Use house rules that don't take advantage of the CPU AI".

:)

Yes, that and the "this is a great game and Markus works very hard on it, no one will ever be satisfied with the trade AI, I don't know why you even bring it up you ungrateful bastard" and etc.

I think that one was a joke from Hollyroller due to the fanboy reception he recieved when mentioning the new trade ai stinks.

TrueCardinalFan... anyhow I don't think it will be tweaked for quite some time. Wondering if I should go back to v5.01 or not?

i went to 5.01 myself. i had to trade my future HOF 2B who refused to sign with my after a series of bad contract offers. i downloaded 5.10 thinking the trade AI would be improved (the interface is at least). i refused to settle for anything less than a handful of sure thing prospects, so the trade had to involve many guys from both sides. it kept crashing on me. i just had to remove the newest patch, all the other things weren't show stopping for me so i can deal with not having them. i briefly considered using v5.10 for all other times inthe season than when i want to trade, but that was just a very brief consideration. i still like the game.

What is with the amount of OOTP fanboys? There is so much sucking up on that board, it's unbelievable

A lot of it I think is because it is such a great game, despite its flaws. The other part of it is that, on that board, sucking up gets you everywhere. Unless you can somehow catch Markus's attention, you will not get very far with the mods.

Wonder why I've been over 'there' longer and have more posts here. :)

Because this is a "board about nothing" maybe.........or anything and not one or two specific topics.

For some reason, people seem to assume that if there's anything negative said, he'll burst into tears and stop working on the game.

Which is odd, because from what I've seen he handles constructive criticism just fine, and generally stays out of anything that looks like flamebait. Maybe the "fanboy" types are just generally insecure, and assume that everyone else is too.

This makes logical sense though. I've been on a couple of music boards where band members visit, and there's always less criticism of the music, or the band's direction, etc., on boards that the band frequents.

When I came here, it was a board about FOF, funny how that has changed.

I can think of one very specific band site where the lead singer gets on the message board and ranks on some of the fans. Good times.
