If you hate some sigs (Hell Atlantic, dangarion) but love others (mine), then you can easily block them with a Firefox extension called fFvB.

Get it here (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/7023/).

It is also great at quickly putting users on ignore (RendeR, Poli) or removing uses from ignore who seem to be way more interesting than originally thought (QuikSand, Maple Leafs).

He's not breaking any rules by mod-bashing, especially with the track record we've seen over the years here.

The truth hurts. people may not like seeing it so often but as I recall thats what the ignore command is for. Unfortunately Ben's modus operandi is to kill ants with nuclear weapons. its getting to the point where its not worth bothering to come on here anymore. and thats one of the saddest things I've thought in a long time.

I think my issue with this thought is that this board really does moderate itself, at least way more than anything else I've seen. I fully understand boxing/banning for inappropriate pics or links, but to me it's unnecessary to do it for trolling/arguing/calling names. People say stupid shit, usually they get called out for it, and then everyone moves on.

Not that my opinion matters or will change the world, or even FOFC...but I am amazed that a group of adults, theoretically higher intelligence skewed adults given the nature of our initial attraction needs moderating or much guidance at all.

I own and help moderate 2 separate automotive niche forums and can honestly say in 5 years no regular member has been "boxed" despite one having over 10,000 members and 6,500 regulars. Sur we have spam bots and newbies that never integrate that we push out, otherwise people tend to find their niche and fit in.

Sure questionable pics get posted there, if they are obviously over the line the user gets warned. If he repeats he gets a second warning with explanation a 3rd and he'd be gone, I guess, but its never happened. If it is borderline one of my mods deletes it and sends a PM as to why. Occasionally PMs are exchanged or a decision is debated but no one has ever lost a tampon over it.

Just seems to be a lot of drama queens here lately...and the mods as a group rank pretty high on the list.

Difference of opinion is a horrible reason to ban/box anyone and is plain censorship...which I always equate to "you are right, I lack the intellect or ability to defeat your position, so I will take my ball and go home" as with all things in life your opinion may differ.

All that said, our mods here are fairly consistent in their (eventual) reaction to provocation so to poke the tiger with a stick and then cry because he bit, well thats pretty damn dumb too.

Yeah, good point. I mean, forget the fact that most folks have been coming here for nearly a decade and have formed friendships with some of the people from these boards. I'll just create my own internet forum, with blackjack, and hookers!

But seriously, FOFC isn't a dictatorship. It's a community that grew by itself over the years, largely without the influence of moderators. Mods are absolutely needed and things can get out of control (not referring to this thread in particular. All I'll say on that is that the boxings are consistent with what's gone on before). But I think what gets lost is the bigger picture, and that's why we came here in the first place, and why we still continue to come. Don't get me wrong, I get 95% of my video game news off this forum, and I like reading about NBA/NFL offseason news as much as the next guy, but once upon a time this was a pretty entertaining forum.

I'll continue to come back for the same reason that people continue to follow baseball (history :D ), and for the odd reminder of times gone by, but as I've said many times before, this forum has gone from chocolate fudgey goodness, to a fairly decent vanilla.

But generally, I don't think people immediately think to "report" posts when someone says something mean. So the de facto rule becomes "don't criticize mods", because nobody else seems to be sensitive enough, or otherwise have the inclination to make every criticism an administrative issue.

I don't spend any time modding around here, other than trying to help people with technical issues (moving threads, log in issues, etc.), and very rarely discuss or am involved with any mod decisions, so I don't have any particular insight into the motivations for this or that banning/boxing, but what you described seems like a pretty obvious extension of how the real world works and really needs no explanation. It's common sense.

Well, you can disagree with how Ben or anyone else moderates, but (a) once you determine a site needs mods, you've acknowledged the need for some semblance of order, and (b) once you're put on notice of how the mods operate, then you really can't complain when they act accordingly. It seems like everyone who has bitched for the past several years about modding decisions has made the same couple of complaints over and over. So, there's no use bitching about it anymore - the rules are well known.

I'm on a couple of other boards that are far more lenient than this one, and I've seen some pics I'd love to post here, but I don't do it because this board is different. I accept it. The mods have made it very clear, especially Ben, that they do not read every, or even most, threads. They only violations they see are when someone brings a certain post to their attention, and it's probably safe to assume that very few post get reported. I think this reason accounts for almost all of the perceived inconsistencies in modding.

Therefore, if you want to call Ben a dipshit, just don't do it in a thread he has posted in, and you'll be fine (I'd suggest trying the soccer or werewolf forums).

I don't think people care as much as you think they do. It's just a message board. The drama is created by mods, everyone else just reacts to it/is irritated by/is amused by it. I'm certainly not trying to be superior(I'm definitely being aggressive about my opinion, but IMO most everyone else is here too), it doesn't seem any different to me than any other argument that degenerates into two sides yelling the same shit over at the other side and eventually others coming in and yelling about the absurdity of the arguments to begin with.

In my mind, my view seems super obvious to me and I have to work pretty hard to even understand the other side that's yelling back at me. I'm sure those disagreeing with me feel the same way about me :) I don't really see why there needs to be some sort of superiority in that, I have no power to do anything at all.

Right. And that's the funniest part about all this. Posting under a new name after getting suspended has ALWAYS been a perma ban as long as I've been part of FOFC (lurker since 1998, registered since 2002).

But you're complaining about others, which is all anybody else here is doing. I don't think it's life or death for any of the three groups though, honestly. It's just a message board. That's all I'm saying. But clearly, all three groups have an an angle here that can fairly be described as "whining". Otherwise, they wouldn't be in the thread at all.

That is exactly what the question was. People were complaining that they have to walk around on egg shells because of mod decisions. I said I act the same no matter what, someone claimed that's because Wade was a mod, and I said I would act the same regardless of whether Wade was a mod. I would be incredibly shocked if something I posted had ever been reported. The implication here is that I can say whatever I want, get reported, and I'll get away clean because Wade is a mod. But show me one post I've ever written that has been reported (prior to now when some asshat could report it later today to prove a point) and we can talk.

I don't act like a douchebag, I don't get reported, I don't get boxed/banned. It's as simple as that. It has nothing to do with Wade.
