To anybody on the East Coast, stay alert and stay safe.

As far as tropical cyclones go, this one looks like the real deal. Most models still have it staying just offshore, but it's always wise to be prepared if things get dicey.

Looks like we're going to luck out here in Myrtle Beach with this one, hope it tracks further east then expected for the rest of you. Stay safe.

Latest track has it just off shore.. I might lose power during my friday night (6 PM-2AM work shift), if it comes east any, it's going to be.. interesting...

Castlerock, I hope you guys are safe.

We're a couple miles inland from Long Island sound, but elevated enough that flooding shouldn't be an issue. Curious to see what happens. I've never experienced a hurricane before. Hopefully it avoids populated areas.

I should have posted one of these instead:

- A real deal hurricane that is category 1? Bwahahahahahaha!!!!!!!

- even Category 2 = pfft. Let me know when you are Category 4.

- They're pussies. :)

- They call them umbrellas......

Use Them.....

Honestly, a little wind and everything is going to shut down?

- Okay..I concede that point...but at least we dont start bawling and crying and wringing our hands". Too many people up that way break down when the drop hits. We get our ponchos on and go sandbag

- Lol...the words civilization and Long Island used in the same post......

Ok, I'm stretching now.

I do seem to remember a little bit of a snarky attitude towards 2' snow storms last year. Is it worth tracking them down to prove the point?

Right, that's what I was saying - but Kodos is saying no one in the Northeast is freaking out about the hurricane.

I should have given it time until they did, because it was starting to move that way I think and I was just trying the preemptive joke.

I'm sure it won't. Hurricanes in New England just mean, "Rain, possibly some wind". Unless you have a boat tied up somewhere, they're meaningless.

It's "Earl has to die" references around here (which I was guilty of).

What airline? Read an article that several airlines are allowing you to reschedule flights already with no penalty.

I'm trying to find the article with the list, but I know that Delta and Airtran were on it.

Huh. I have to watch this stuff a lot because of how it impacts stuff at work and WUndeground seems crazy to me. They have a Tropical Storm Warning for DC right now. The National Hurricane Center puts them at about a 30% chance of Tropical Storm force winds.

I don't think DC is going to "get it bad" - but I would think the Tropical Storm force winds make it pretty risky for air travel.

Both the Weather Channel (http://www.weather.com/weather/hourbyhour/56933?begHour=23&begDay=245#Fri,%20Sep%203) and AccuWeather (AccuWeather.com - Washington Hourly Weather | Hourly Forecast for Washington, DC (http://www.accuweather.com/us/dc/washington/56933/forecast-hourly.asp?fday=2&hbhhour=3)) show little effect in DC.

Maybe this gets at the DC thing better (Chances of getting hit with 39 m.p.h. or higher winds):

http://www.universalhub.com/files/images/latestwind.jpg

So, looks like DC has about a 25% chance of getting hit with 40 mph winds.

Of course I realize that that doesn't mean the flight won't get disrupted, but I have to think if its clear in Boston and clear in DC my chances are good.Based off my experience with snowstorms, it's not always about whether that airport gets hit, but whether it's a big enough hub they divert a lot of planes to it that cause the delays. I'm guessing you'll be fine, but just throwing that out there.

Personally, I wish this came a day later, so I could see some good college football action in monsoons. Those are always fun - like the FSU/Miami one a few years back where Roscoe Parrish nearly got decapitated. Plus I've always been intrigued to see one from our beach house in Maine (island in Portland's harbor, but 20 feet above sea level on the landward side) but it's not worth going up early and missing Brian Kelly (undefeated as Notre Dame head coach :) ) in his debut, the 2 huge BCS-buster games, etc.

Bishop - you going to "the game" Saturday?Probably not. My mom has foot surgery around noon and needs to be driven home afterwards, which would mean a real tight timetable (particularly if driving conditions are bad - the last 20-30 miles near Amherst have a real big problem with downed trees blocking the road in any sort of wind/precipitation conditions) and no time for tailgating. Plus this is the first year I've transitioned past having multiple parties to go to and friends places to crash, so I'll probably be weak and watch the games on TV with friends in the city. (The other factors include the FCS system - I love the playoff system for 1AA, but it does take the urgency out of early-season games like this - and there's also my hatred of Kevin Morris and viewpoint that his hiring was a capitulation.)
