Due to an easy upcoming league schedule, I may PIC and B-Team my League game and then MOTS with my A-Team in the Cup. After the game and training, I'll go searching for an improved coach (Currently: Inad/All Out w/Controversial/Passable.) Of course, if you know Argos, I'm planning to PIC and he should too. ;)

So, my Round 4 Cup opponent, despite the sissy name, has won their Div IV league the last three seaons running, and has finally been promoted to Div III. I, as a middling Div V team, feel like I have little chance against them - and also harbor no real illusions about bona fide Cup glory of any real sort - I'm sure I won't get to host another match.
With that, shoudl I "play it cool" in an effort to boost form?
QS : I am in the same position as you. I am in French DIV playing a first team DIII, and I will play a defensive 5-4-1 in PIC mode hoping for an event goal. If not, nevermind, I'll still have netted another cup home game (46k in tickets money !).
MOTS : TS/2
PIC : TS+2
Easy decision for me !

I play a div II team that hatstats says is the 13th best team in the USA.
However, they've been playing their 2nd team in the Cup. I match up positively against their 2nd team.

I play a solid division 4 team who only has 14 players. So I think I'll be facing his first team. He has been PICing all his cup games including against another div 5 team last week. If he PICs and I MOTS, I might have a chance. My league games this week and next are against very weak opponents.

bump, because it depressed me that it was on page 3 :)
I'm afraid I'm going to have to give in and write off my next cup game. Even 1st team / MOTS, it would be more than a stretch to beat this team. With my league games this week and next being the tougher teams in my league, and with my avowed goal of scoring 42 league points this season, it just doesn't seem worth it to go for the cup game.
Maybe it will be a miracle, and they (she) won't play the first team against me. Their midfield ranges from poor to passable, while mine gets to weak on good days. I could probably pull inadequate if I MOTS, play first team, and PIC today's league game to get back to PoE, but it wouldn't be prudent, at this juncture

This week we play the Pyros. They are a Div IV team, and have been around for a long time. SInce 11-01, so they have the potential to be very good. However, they have not had much success and are last in their division right now. So I can't say much about their coach. I would think that he should be a little higher than Div IV by now.
In scouting their team, they llike the 4-4-2, and generally get in the 50's according to Hatstats. However, I have noticed that they have a fairly weak midfield. In fact, I post better ratings at mid, with my 3-5-2.
Thier coach sent me a smack talkin' message that basically said this is the end of the road for you, and he referred to the ratings that I recieved in my last match. Well my last match wasn't very inpressive as my mixed 'b' team played. I sent him a message that said something to the effect that 'Yeah I suck, and will probably play my scrubs'. I am hoping to lure him into a false sense of security. If you put our best ratings of the year together, I should definalty be in the hunt to win.
I hate people like that. Take 'em out PilotMan.

Well, I ran some game simulations using the Hattrick match calculator. I plugged in my best ratings at each slot this year and his. Here is what it spit out.
I should hold the ball for about 64% of the time. I will score an average of 2.2 goals to his 1.9. I should win outright about 40% of the time compared to his 30%. With the game coming down to a tie about 1/4 of the time. I really hope it wouldn't come to that we are terrible, but my goalie is far superior to his.
The most lopsided wins are 5-0 for me or 4-0 for him. The mode goal is 2 for the both of us with the median being 2 for him and somewhere between 2 and 3 for me.
My percentages jump by about 10% to win if I MOTS and its a wash if he MOTS's too. I seriously doubt that either of us will PIC this match. I may MOTS it because this will be my last round. There is no way in hell I would win the next match after this one.
The biggest key will be if my team can put out its best performance of the year. I have only had my true 'a' team together for 1 match this season. All the others have been mixed. My form should have increased and some other players are now putting up better numbers.
The key for the whole match will be my midfield vs his. If he posts poor (only done twice this year) it will be interesting. Otherwise, I have a 60-70% chance to win outright. I will come in somewhere between weak and inadequate. And if I do get an inadequate the match is over, and I will win. I will hold the ball over 70% of the time.
I am hoping I just boosted his confidence up just enough to take me lightly. In that case I would love to serve some humble pie. He would get an email back that said somthing like, " I guess you suck worse than I do. Sorry I had to break you."

The div 4 team I am playing this week uses a 3-4-3. My typical 3-5-2 would probably get me crushed, so I am trying to decide between a 4-5-1 and a 4-4-2 (3 IMs). My experience with the 4-5-1 is only passable. Does anyone have any idea how much danger is there of confusion? (My captain has inadequate experience). Should I stick with the 4-4-2?

My opponet uses a 3-4-3, and generally puts up strong attack ratings (solid to excellent, one formidable but I suspect that was a MOTS). He will have an edge in possession, but hopefully not too extreme (maybe 60%). I am worried with only three defenders I wouldn't be able to put up enough defense to stay in the game. His defense is solid but not great, and I might be able to steal a few goals. Therefore, I am leaning to using a 4-4-2 and simply abandoning the wing he has a strong defense against.
I could try a 3-5-2, playing both wings to the middle in an effort to win possession, but I am not sure I would.

You can get very good defensive ratings with a symetrical 3-5-2 that has both wingers playing defensively. That way you get to keep the higher possession you get with a 3-5-2.

After looking really hard at the two teams, and my game on Sunday against a team that is a 57 NSI team, I have decided to PIC this game with my backup midfield. I mention this here in the hope ardent or HFP will see this in time to make any changes, in case it would help him out.
I don't see any way for me to win tonight, and I would rather help out a fellow Hattricker and give myself the best shot on Sunday. Sorry to wait so late, but I had been hoping to pick up a player or 2 on the transfer list to help me compete, but that was not the case. Good luck Ardent!

A well placed corner kick from Paofai Croom-Carter was followed by Rodney Valadez´s hard but accurate header. The nice combination meant 1-0 for Galesburg. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Astoria´s Steven Wilcox got himself booked.
I cannot believe we're winning even this early in the game.
Can anyone get my match to come up on Criollo? I can't.

The match is in progress, 23 minutes of the first half have been played.
Due to an all-day shower, 14849 paying spectators got to see a match on a pitch-turned-bog at The Slaughter House. Sidekicks had chosen a strategic 4-5-1 formation. They fielded: Podboj - Johnson, Hĺkansson, Alonso, Thompson - Connor, Andersson, Stensson, Issjö, Anduaga - Perez.
Hokuten started off with a 3-4-3 lineup. The following players had been chosen: Oneil - Dobson, Elkins, Zetterby - Anders, Diamond, Stankovic, Gresham - Johnson, Gamble, Gage.

I can get the game on Hattrick, thanks, but I can't get it on Crillo. That first miss was from my winger move towards the middle and the 2nd was my worst middie on the field. IN THE NET!!!

The match is in progress, 35 minutes of the first half have been played.
12000 spectators arrived at Striker Field, where weather conditions were pretty good for football. Strikers had chosen a strategic 4-5-1 formation. The following players had been chosen: Walsh - Segel, Jacobs, Baldwin, Nettles - Nilsson, Kovacevic, Mészáros, Jermak, Paulsson - Graham.
After a fine move down the middle Thomas Jacobs nearly gave the home side one up in the 17:th minute. The finishing shot went just wide, though. Almost all the way down to the corner flag Jesper Paulsson somhow managed to get a perfect pass into the middle, impossible to miss for John Graham who struck for 1 - 0. Strikers´s David Segel left the field after 27 minutes because of a nasty blow to the shin. His replacement was Niklas Gustavsson. The home side´s John Graham came close to extending the lead in the 28:th minute. His shot came in off the right hand side but John Tovar managed saving with a fingernail. 33 minutes into the game Josip Kovacevic had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came Nicholas Estrada.
A sell out crowd showed up, I got a good $40,000.
I have had 3 attempts to score, put 1 in, but have also got 2 playres hurt. I think the team I am playing is without an owner, it is a div iv team. Well hopefully I can win and stay in the cup for 1 more week, and bring in some more money.

The teams went for a half-time break at 3 - 1. The fortyfive minutes were dominated by Astoria, with an impressive 59 percent possession of the ball.
And it's gonna get worse in the 2nd. How we're even up...I still have no idea.

Not a bad first half...still in the game. Hopefully, my forward isn't injured to badly, and the Spikes have better stamina.

Ovidiu Micu got left behind when Pyros´s Peter Perdue made a sudden pull forward in the 20:th minute, finishing off with a swift strike. 0-1! After 29 minutes George Taylor got through on the right and was very close to equalising for the home side, but didn´t get the shot away. After 33 minutes a combination in the middle resulted in a through ball for Toni Barato who increased Pyros´s lead to 0 - 2. 0 - 2 was the half-time score. The fortyfive minutes were dominated by Midwest, with an impressive 70 percent possession of the ball.
My Midfield is dominating, but we are unable to do anything against their D, and our D has let us down. I am not sure if we can mount anything in the second half or not.
The teams went for a half-time break at 1 - 0. Sidekicks held the ball, with a clear 54 percent possession rate.

The visitors almost came back with an equaliser in the 52nd minute after a good combination down the middle, but as Yap King-Lok was to put closure on the raid he couldn´t deliver a shot hard enough to seriously challenge the keeper.

For those who haven't been following my dynasty, I thought this game was winnable since I'm playing a Div IV team with clearly superior talent but who hadnt logged in and had a couple injuries.
However, yesterday, he logged in for the first time in at least 2 weeks and I thought I was finished as he runs out *** and ***~ across the field to my **~ and ** (and Mick and Tim at *** and ***~ respectively).
But I just got home from class to find: "The teams went for a half-time break at 4 - 1. Hippopotami held the ball, with a clear 60 percent possession rate" as our offense has been scorching them!

Woot! MOTS'ing I thought it should be an even game and then I put 3 in in the first 10 minutes. He cut it to 3-1, then injured one of my wingers, so to let him know not to injure my boys, next minute we put it back up to 4-1. Had 51% possession at halftime, but he put one in to cut it to 4-2 a minute into the second half.

Ruskies are down a goal, this is pretty surprising.
My keeper was injured in my last match, so I had to buy an innadequete of the transfer market. I saw that as a sign that this wasn't ment to be so the subs came in and I PIC'd this one.
I play the 2nd weakest team in my league next week, so I'll PIC that one and get a big boost against the our div. leader in 2 weeks at home. It will be a rematch of my 1-0 win in the regular season finale from last year which put him in a qualification match that he lost. In hindsight I probably should have thrown that match and been the favorite this year.

is Johnson the unlucky victim, couldn´t continue the game. After 76 minutes of play George Taylor equalised for Midwest after an elegant attack from the right. Midwest took the lead in the 76:th minute of the game by 3 to 2, as Ovidiu Micu elegantly received a pass going deep, finishing off with a half-volley shot just below the bar.
Its a whole new game....and for those of you who don't know this guy sent me smak talkin' trash this week.

764 spectators had come to Hamas Mad Bombers Arena this cloudy day. Bombers tactics involved an interesting 5-4-1 combination. The following players had been chosen: Torsson - Witherspoon, Strange, Carroll, Hoffmann, Goodman - Wray, Ellsworth, Cornelius, Rai - Buffington.
G-Vegas tactics involved an interesting 3-5-2 combination. The following players had been chosen: Ledesma - Vestermo, Qureshi, Gjerde - Etheridge, Daníelsson, Cherry, Cardamone, Griggs - Faure, Lilleřren.
After 2 minutes G-Vegas put themselves up by 0 - 1 as Francois Faure finished off a strike from the left with a real cannon placed at the far post. Don Hoffmann behaved like an inexperienced youth player in the 9:th minute as he gave the ball away to an opponent. Lucky for him though, there was no goal. Joel Buffington made a superb strike at the goal in the 11th minute with a long shot coming in from straight in front of the goal, but one of the visitors defenders got a foot in and warded it off to a corner. The referee showed G-Vegass William Qureshi the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. The Bombers player was Don Hoffmann who had to be helped off the pitch, unable to finish the game. After 30 minutes of game time Francois Faure received an excellent opportunity to add to the visitors lead, clipping a volley hooked in from the right, but Anders Torsson was in the right place, tipping the ball to a corner. In the 33rd minute G-Vegass Connie Griggs received a yellow card for going into a challenge studs first. After 35 minutes Bombers´s José Ellsworth contracted a slight foot injury, but could finish the game. With a shot floated in from just outside the penalty area in the 36:th minute, David Cornelius of Bombers evened the score to 1 - 1. The referee showed Bomberss Daniel Strange the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. A free kick aimed at the keepers far post almost gave G-Vegas the lead in the 39:th minute, but the ball just wasn´t able to squirm it´s way through the defensive wall. The teams went for a half-time break at 1 - 1. Bombers, bringing the final ball possession rate to 58 percent, dominated the battle.
The game was close to savage at times, and Bombers`s Daniel Strange received a second yellow card in the 62nd, his ticket out of the game. G-Vegas were forced to a substitution as Torolf Lilleřren couldn´t continue playing due to the rough treatment. Bombers created a good opportunity to score in the games 73rd minute when David Cornelius`s hooked ball created a scuffle in front of the goal, and the visitors defenders had a hard time clearing the ball. After a fine move down the middle Joel Buffington nearly gave the home side one up in the 79:th minute. The finishing shot went just wide, though. 81 minutes into the game Ole Gjerde had to leave the pitch due to a knee injury. In came John James. Bombers held the ball, with a clear 67 percent possession rate.
The most dominating Bombers player was without a doubt Jacob Hendrickson. George Goodman was a disappointment, however. Most important G-Vegas player was Sebastián Zavallos. Connie Griggs on the other hand, had a terrible day. The match ends 1 - 1.

Congrats on beating one of the best teams in my region (New York City). I "held" a d2 team to 7 goals against my worst players, and managed a sellout $46,000+ gate, so I'm happy. I'm out of debt for a while too, woohoo!

Bloody hell. I've been worried immensely about this and that's why I played my starters this week. Unfortunately since I won, I'll have to play them again next week or risk a similar fate which whould hurt me in league play and cash.

You should not have any confusion w/ solid formation experience. Non-"extra" instructions do not effect that at all to my knowledge. Did you sell a player recently? That can make formation experience drop.

I'm setting up a potential Consolation bracket for the FOFC Cup...my thoughts are thus:
The 7 remaining 3rd place teams are in. All 13 4th place teams are in. The top 12 5th place teams are in, rounding out a field of 32 in the consolation bracket. Single elimination, winner advances. Seedings are determined by points in group play; tiebreakers are original seeds. Therefore if the #32 and the #41 team in the group play phase tie at 7 points in group play, team #32 would get the higher seed in the consolation bracket.
How does that sound for the consolation bracket?

I'd hold off on forming any consolation bracket, yet. If it's anything like last season, there'll be lots of teams that didn't get into the main tournament that want to join.
On the other hand, some teams that lose might be in another tournament.

Yeah I got that one too....and this weeks league match is against a newbie who hasn't lost yet. I am at home, and need to win to confirm my dominance, but after that its PIC time to reward them.

That's an excellent point...I know I was quite disappointed when I thought I might not be in the Cup...perhaps we should open the doors to teams that aren't in the official cup and give them guaranteed invites to the consolation bracket? There would be less teams from Group play in the consolation bracket, but...I think it's a fair trade off.

vex - Is your 4-5-1 formation experience still solid? If so, I'm guessing it was passable before the cup game. According to rumors I've heard in hattrick conferences, your captain needs to have at least inadequate experience to avoid formation confusion when your formation experience is passable. I see you chose a team captain with poor experience and I'm wondering if that might be the combination (passable formation experience & poor experience captain) that caused the confusion.
BTW, IMHO, Donald Thompson would be a better captain for your team because experience is more important than leadership for a captain.
