I was at the W&M home Football game against Virginia Military Institute yesterday...

We had a 9/11 moment of silence, then a student came out to sing the national anthem.

The mic didn't work.

They fiddled with it, still didn't work.

Announcer thanks the student and they close up shop, no anthem.

My Mother-In-Law turns to me and says, "if we were good Americans, we would have just sung it".

Not 2 seconds later, you start to hear this dull noise come from the student section (probably.. idano.. 3k of the 11k at the game)... then you realize, they're singing the anthem. By about mid-way through, the entire stadium was singing.

Cool moment in general, let alone on 9/11 while hosting a football team of players that will be out there supporting the country in uniform when they graduate.

Cool and also poignant--a W&M alum (Class of '08) had been killed in Afghanistan by an IED earlier in the week.

Where were you guys sitting? I've become a fan of section HH.

Very cool moment. It's good to hear there are still people who will do that.

Wade, great story... I am going to share this with my family on Facebook (many veterans in my family) as I know they will appreciate it.

Argh - forgot to mention the alum passing away.

HH rules.

I have had season tickets in HH for about 10 years now.
