I can't remember if I read it here or not, but do any of you guys know if any groups have attempted to purchase the source for FPS:Football Pro?
If not, does anybody have an idea who currently owns the rights to the code?

I thought the Sierra guys still had it.

There was that imposter game that came out online with the same name, but isn't related to it at all.

I would just assume Sierra still has it. I still own FPS: Football Pro 95.

The source for this has to be what, 12 years old for the last good version (98)? If it is out there available, I'm not sure what real value it would have for anyone. Finding a compiler for it may be more difficult than finding the actual code. Okay that may be a little stretch, but wouldn't the best route at this point probably be just obtaining the naming license and build your own code? I'm guessing that code is a bunch of nasty spaghetti, and not anywhere near run-able on modern systems.

I like the fact Shaun is asking about this. Puresim football:)

Oh yeah.. me too.
I would think a Pro Football sim would do well.. unless Jim has something up his sleeve and releases FOF 2k10 at the same time. ;)

You could probably find the 1999 code printed on toilet paper somewhere.
I'd be interested in the process of trying to acquire the rights of something from a company. Would be a interesting dynasty read. (well, for me at least)

As much as I really hate to say it, I don't think there's a huge market for PC graphical sports games anymore.
What are the sales numbers for Madden, NBA2k, MLB2k, Fifa (well, maybe that does well), and other graphical games from big companies? Probably not too good. Imagine trying to release a game from an Indy publisher.

Jokinng right? I mean the current FOF is so 1999. FOF anything is never going to happen and rather not have another spreadsheet to play.

I don't mind the spreadsheet style of Jim's sims, it's what's under the hood that has me enjoying his games.
The problem I have is I'm the type of sports game player that plays them along a current season of whatever sport is live at the moment, so I don't play FOF much in the offseason. My renewed interest comes mainly from a new sim/patch/updated rosters - and we have none of those for this year and FOF.
Do you think a new version of FOF wouldn't do well?

Shaun mentioned the holy words of football action sport sims :-o
I believe it is still owned by the mess of what was once Sierra Online / Vivendi Games.

I definitely agree with this sentiment. If anyone got the rights, I'd love for it to be Shaun.

I'm so confused. Shaun drops PureSim because of a new opportunity that is clearly another game of some sort, and then this question about FPS...
What are you up to Shaun!!!???

I believe it is still owned by Sierra. I do know that there were attempts to buy the rights to the source code, but that was about 6 years ago, and the price they were asking pretty much ended all talks before it got into serious negotiations as they were not budging.
Hopefully they have come down on that price by now.

I don't blame him as you say "dumping" PS. he obviously was not making much of anything from his own posts that is apparent. The reason for this some have said were at least recently to a lack of marketing on the part of his various partners over the years but will leave that speculation tot he masses.

It's funny to imagine Sierra executives (with Police Quest III posters on the wall), holding a hard line on the cost of the source code for Front Page Sports Football 1998.

I may be confusing this game with another, but I thought I heard the asking price was in the low six figures last time around.

If that is the case it has come down drastically (as it lost a digit).

Sorry I played all the "iterations" and felt more like a work program than a game but hey to each there own no reason to get personal.

Not a big deal, but I said "drop" not "dump." ;)
