2010 NBA Expansion Draft
We head into this draft looking to add between 6-8 players who can be of some use to us. We plan on playing a high temp game so it'll be imperative at some point we need to get a PG who can run the keep the pace up, but chances are we won't see it here.
I am self imposing a limit on guys we take. I don't want to take a guy on a deal longer then 3 years unless he is making 2.5 mil or less per year, and I don't want to take any player making more then 5 mil per year.
The Las Vegas Aces pick first:
#1 - SG Jason Terry
#2 - SG Rip Hamilton
#3 - C Emeka Okafor
#4 - PG Eric Maynor
#5 - PF Elton Brand
#6 - SF Luc Richard Mbah a Moute
#7 - PF Boris Diaw
#8 - C DeAndre Jordan
#9 - PG Jameer Nelson
#10 - SF Martell Webster
#11 - Pass
#12 - PF Jordan Hill
#13 - PG Kirk Hinrich
#14 - Pass
#15 - PF Rasheed Wallace
#16 - PF Renaldo Balkman
So of course I start off the draft clicking on the wrong player and taking Rip Hamilton. His contract is expensive but only has two years left and he at least gives me a legit scorer who can play in the type of offense I want to run, but I am not happy.
I like the potential of Maynor to be a contributor off of the bench down the road but for now he won't accomplish much for me.
Mbah a Moute is another guy who has some potential to go along with some versatility.
DeAndre Jordan provides length and potential, I don't expect much.
Martell Webster makes about 4.5 mil per for the next 3 years but could end up being a decent contributor. I figured it was worth a shot to take him with how much money we had saved.
Jordan Hill is all potential again.
Renaldo Balkman is all about his D.

Coach Hiring
Seattle SuperSonics sign Mike Woodson to a 3 year contract worth $2,000,000 per year for the job of head coach.
Seattle SuperSonics sign Pete Myers to a 3 year contract worth $1,000,000 per year for the job of 1st assistant coach.
Seattle SuperSonics sign Mike Wilhelm to a 3 year contract worth $900,000 per year for the job of 2nd assistant coach.
Seattle SuperSonics sign Harold Ellis to a 3 year contract worth $900,000 per year for the job of 3rd assistant coach.
Pretty self explanatory here. If I overpaid so be it.

dola,
I find it amusing how your Las Vegas side also wound up with Meka, Jameer, and Hinrich.

If nothing else your fans certainly can't complain about watching boring games. Only scoring under 90 twice so far and one of those was a win, not a bad start offensively.

Yep. So far things are going about as I expected. Rip and Ben are exploding though, I didn't see that. As I think about it though, both are playing tons of minutes and Rip is our only pure scorer, while Ben is our only true defensive presence so it makes some sense.

2011 NBA Playoffs: First Round
Eastern Conference
#1 New Jersey vs #8 Atlanta
#4 Toronto vs #5 Orlando
#3 Chicago vs #6 Boston
#2 New Orleans vs #7 Philadelphia
Western Conference
#1 Denver vs #8 LA Clippers
#4 LA Lakers vs #5 Dallas
#3 San Antonio vs #6 Las Vegas
#2 Portland vs #7 Oklahoma City
The first round is relatively drama free except for one series out West. The Nets and Magic sweep in the East while Chicago and the Hornets each win in five.
Out West the Lakers swept the Mavs while Denver and Portland each won in five. The real drama saw the expansion Aces take the Veteran Spurs to the wire in a seven game series but the Spurs lead by a 20/20 from Thiago Splitter won Game 7 with relative ease, 95-81.

ended up at 27 PPG to lead the NBA. He was hoisting 25-30 shots a game, it was sick. He was a stat filler to be sure but I am not sure how much good he did for us considering some of the games I saw him have.

2011 NBA Playoffs: Second Round
Eastern Conference
#1 New Jersey vs #5 Orlando
#3 Chicago vs #2 New Orleans
Western Conference
#1 Denver vs #4 LA Lakers
#3 San Antonio vs #2 Portland
The East was once again a cake walk for Chicago and The Nets who won in five each. New Orleans may have been the two seed but it was apparent Chicago and New Jersey were the two best teams have have proved it thus far.
The West saw a young Portland team beat San Antonio in six, while the Lakers and Nuggets were to seven but Andre Bynum cruised to a 34 point, 14 rebound performance and the Lakers ended up scoring 133 enroute to a 133-109 victory. A funny stat here was the fact that Kobe only scored 9 in a game where the Lakers scored 133.

2011 NBA Playoffs: Conference Finals
Eastern Conference
#1 New Jersey vs #3 Chicago
Western Conference
#2 Portland vs #4 LA Lakers
Anticlimatic was the best word to describe the Conference Finals. The Nets blew through LeBron and Bulls in five. Chicago won the opener in a nail biter but after that the Nets won each game by at least ten points. Meanwhile LA fought valiantly but Portland was too much as they won in six following a superb series from Batum.

#1 New Jersey vs #2 Portland
It was a series full of give and take, with each team winning alternate games, giving us a game 7 in the NBA Finals. With the stakes at an all time high, Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade's big move to New Jersey paid off with a 100-86 victory over the Blazers. Bosh came up huge with 33 points and 16 points as he totally dominated LaMarcus Aldridge all night.

2011 NBA Draft
#1. Sacramento: PF Matt Toney, Kansas
- Not a surprise here. Toney is a post threat who should contribute right away. He now gives Tyreke Evans a post scorer to work with.
#2. Seattle: PG Jerome Jenkins, Wake Forest
- Jenkins projects as a 5* player with A Scoring, B Passing, A Handling, C Rebounding, C Blocking, C Stealing, C Defense. He also has a High Work Ethic. We need a PG for this offense and Jenkins looks like an amazing fit.
#3. Houston: SG Alton Foreman, Tennessee
- Foreman is probably the best pure scorer in this draft. Houston needs a guy who can fill it up so this is a solid pick.
#4. Detroit: C Keith Ward, Auburn
- Detroit needs a center and Ward is in the conversation as one of the best. Very physical player though undersized at 6'9". He should be a defensive presence but he needs to develop an offensive game.
#5. Miami: SG Keanan Braswell, UT-Chattanooga
- Braswell was the second best scorer in the draft. His all around game is superb but his off the court issues (draft analysts mentioned a police incident) kept him from going to Houston at #3. Braswell has the potential to be a replacement for D-Wade.
#6. Milwaukee - SG Damous Collins, Ole Miss
- Collins a three point specialist who is one of the best perimeter defenders in the draft. Has a game similar to Michael Redd.
#7. Washington - SF Steve Scott, Washington
- Scott is in the mold of Kevin Durant. A 6'10, 230 lbs SF who averaged 33 PPG at Washington. Defense needs work and he has to figure out how to show consistency but he has talent.
#8. Minnesota - SF Zeynel Akbulut, Turkey
- The first International player to go in the draft, Akbulut is an all around player who should compliment Rubio and Joe Johnson nicely.
#9. Phoenix - C Velimir Ostrozinska, Serbio & Montengro
- Interesting pick here. He doesn't really fit in the Suns offense, but he is a very good defensive player. Should be a threat on the boards and be a consistent shot blocker.
#10. New York: C Shannon Brown, Western Kentucky
- Brown fits in Coach Dantoni's offense to a T. He should be an excellent compliment to David Lee, though on the flip side, it is another guy who is a relative black hole on D in the front court.
#11. Indiana: PG Mikhel Zukauskas, Lithuiana
#12. Golden State: PF Marvin Barnes, Arizona State
#13. Cleveland: C David Noyola, Connecticut
#14. Utah: SG Bruce Bailey, Australia
#15. Seattle: SF Carlos Few, Memphis
- We trade our 41st pick, 2013 1st, and a 2012 2nd to move up to the 15th pick and take Carlos Few, a guy our scouts saw as having A potential in scoring. He is athletic as hell, a must in this offense, but he lacks a refined jump shot. With that said, he and Favors can be a match up nightmare for opposing teams.
#16. Memphis - PG Hollis Thomas, Xavier
#17. Philadelphia - C Daniel Respert, Wake Forest
#18. Atlanta - SG Jason Barrett, Seton Hall
#19. LA Clippers - PG Jason Coursey, New Mexico
#20. Golden State - SG Kelvin Grant, Tennessee
#21. Boston - C Bobby Kincade, Arkansas
#22. Las Vegas - PG Reggie Willis, Georgia
#23. Orlando - PF Kevin Thompson, Depaul
#24. Toronto - PF Daniel Kennedy, Colorado
#25. LA Lakers - PG Matt Carter, Houston
#26. Toronto - SF Joshula Curley, Maryland
#27. San Antonio - SF Andes Gomez, Brazil
#28. San Antonio - SG Desmon Traore, St. Johns
#29. New Orleans - SF Jake Buddle, Pitt
#30. Portland - PF Craig Braun, South Carolina
#31. New Jersey - SF Derrick Whitmore, Iowa State
#32. Denver - PF Renat Ray, Spain
#36 - Seattle - C Kevin Floyd, Auburn
He's a big body who was unscouted but seems worth a risk.

All in all it's a very meh FA class headlined by a stud in Durant, who also happens to be an RFA. I can't see any way OKC doesn't match on him. Horford and Gasol are two top 5 Centers and will get paid but the fall off after them is noticeable.
We go in with about 5 mil to spend on a backup SG, and some front court help. We hope to bring back DeAndre Jordan, but we could use some PF help.
We start FA by trading PG Armon Johnson to the Pistons for PF DeJuan Summers and a 2012 2nd pick. We had a surplus of PG and Summers provides some depth.
We make offers to Ronnie Brewer, DeAndre Jordan and a couple other young guys who could be of use down the line. We also offer our Mid Level to Tyson Chandler.

Position Breakdown
PG: We are incredibly deep here with our #2 overall pick Jerome Jenkins leading the offense. Jenkins is not as good as we hoped initially (2.5/3.5) but he already is fairly well developed. He should be a guy who even as a rookie can average 10 points and 6 assists. His ceiling may not be what we thought but he will be solid. Maynor and Livingston provide two excellent backups.
SG: Rip was last years leading scorer as he heaved up shot after shot. He will be asked to dial it back this year but is still our best scorer. His primary backup will be Martell Webster but we also signed George Stokes, an undrafted FA out of North Carolina. He isn't anything special but we hope he can develop into a role player.
SF: We seem to have hit a home run with Carlos Few. He is rated the best rookie by pundits headed into this year. His defense is limited, and can't handle the ball very well, but is a potent scorer already. We are cautiously optimistic he could average 15-16 ppg as a rookie. He will be backed up by Martell Webster.
PF: Derrick Favors is ready to take the next step in his development. He has more talent around him and will be focusing strictly on scoring in the paint. We're hoping he averages around 19 and 9 this season. Lofty expectations perhaps as he is still raw, but it is something he is capable of. We'll use bigger sets with DeAndre Jordan as his primary backup.
C: Newly signed Tyson Chandler will fill the Ben Wallace role this year but should be adapt at it. DeAndre Jordan will see plenty of time backing him up as well. Alibi and rookie Kevin Floyd will be in the NBDL for the time being.

Thanks a lot man.
Yeah the team should have pieces in place at PG/SF/PF for the next ten years, or so I hope. I'm going to need to find a better SG though because Rip is assuredly gone after this season.

Trade Roundup
- Knicks trade 2012 1st round pick (NY) to the Pacers for PG Mikhel Zukauskas
This trade is interesting on many fronts. The Knicks needed a PG in the worst way, so they get a potential young star in Zukauskas who has been the only rookie PG better then our own Jenkins this season.
With that said, he was a Foreign FA from Lithuania who is 25 years old. He signed a one year deal so chances are he'd make a ton in FA and leave Indy anyway but it is a big risk for them to take.

2011 NBA Playoffs: Finals
2. Portland
4. New Jersey
This time there would be redemption as the Blazers take home the NBA Title beating the Nets in six! The seires started off with the Blazers going up 2-0 but the Nets battled back to even the series up. The Blazers would be too much in Game 5 though and then blow the doors off of the Nets 104-83 in the decisive game six.

2012 NBA Draft
1. Memphis: C Ivan Sykes, MSU
Sykes is a complete player who not only averaged 24 points and 14 rebounds in college but also 6 assists. He should be the main man when it comes to the Rookie of the Year.
2. Miami: SF Kenton Obrien, BYU
Seems like a reach but Miami still needs scoring desperately. Obrien isn't very athletic but he has a smooth jump shot and should be able to drain shots in Miami.
3. Minnesota: PG Booker Kosik, Seton Hall
A strange pick for the Wolves here. Already with Rubio you have to wonder what Kosik's role will be. Still, he is electric as a playmaker but his shot needs work.
4. Washington: PF Clark Everhart, Illinois
Everhart is a classic post player. He is a bull in the paint and a force on the glass. Gives Wall a lot of help down low in Washington.
5. Cleveland: SG Mike Curry, UT-Chattanooga
Curry is another UT-Chattanooga SG to go in the Lotto. He is a good shooter who does everything well, but nothing truly exceptional. Cleveland needs help all over though so Curry should be able to do that.
6. Charlotte: PF Kevin Felts, Marquette
Felts won't blow you away defensively but he is another solid post player who is a notch below Everhart but still worthy of the sixth pick in the draft.
#7. Indiana: C Davild Bailey, MSU
The other MSU big, Bailey was a beneficiary of playing next to Sykes, but he can still play. He is more in the mold of a defensive threat then an all around player like Sykes but he is a decent pick here.
#8. Seattle: C Demetri Markoulides, Greece
Markoulides is just 18 years old and relatively undersized at 6'9, 265 lbs but he is athletic and he is a scorer. His D needs work, no question, but he fits in well with our overall scheme.
#9. Detroit: SG Kevin Singletary, Air Force
Singletary is a three point specialist who can fill it up from long range. Needs to work on his overall repertoire but his potential is scary.
#10. Houston: C Jimmy Lightfoot, Wisconsin
At 6'11, 273, Lightfoot is a monster physical specimen. He is already NBA ready in that regard. However he needs work refining his entire game. If he does that he can be a star.
#11. Golden State: SF Travis Myers, Wright State
#12. Phoenix: SF Jesse Huggins, New Mexico
#13. Utah: PF Ramon Ribero, Brazil
#14. Milwaukee: SF Donald Cleveland, Western Kentucky
#15. Toronto: PG Greg Beasley, NC State
#16. Dallas: SG Paul LaRue, Texas Tech
#17. Chicago: C Antonio Lewis, Arizona State

#28. Boston: SG Stephan Howard, Tennessee
#29. Phoenix: C Daniel Miner, Texas A&M
#30. Chicago: PG Chris Thomas, Kansas State
#31. New Orleans: C Brad Hemphill, North Carolina
#32. Denver: SG Brett Dixon, Providence
Trade:
Houston trades Yao Ming to Minnesota for Al Jefferson
For Houston who is in no way ready to compete this makes sense. Jefferson is younger, healthier and under contract longer where as Minnesota if setting up to win now despite their top 3 pick.
#41. Seattle: SG Marquise Whitfield, St. Johns

Gordon is my backup plan. I tested my SF (Few) out at SG and he looked good there. His entire game is based around his shooting so I figured he'd be better off at the 2 as his career goes along.

Free Agency Review
We end up signing Eric Gordon to a deal a little above his value, but he gives us a legitimate scorer to force Rip back on the bench. Few will stay at the 3 which will hinder our D some but he has really shown some improvement in Camp.
- We add Bayless as our backup PG. He is solid and got a fairly cap friendly deal for us.
- Young and Bjelica are two young guys with potential. Young will head to the NBDL while Bjelica is a potential defensive stud who will see some minutes.
- The signing to watch out for is Boston getting Ostoja Brnovic. He is a center from Serbia who is in his early 30's. He looks like he could come in to the league right away and be a sleeper All Star.

2012 Seattle Sonics
Starting 5
PG - Jerome Jenkins
SG - Eric Gordon
SF - Carlos Few
PF - Derrick Favors
C - Demetri Markoulides
Bench
6th Man - Rip Hamilton
7th Man - Solomon Alabi
8th Man - DeAndre Jordan
9th Man - Marquise Whitfield
10th Man - Jerryd Bayless
11th Man - Nemanjia Bjelica
12th Man - Renaldo Balkman
Kevin Floyd and Eddy Young will be in the NBDL
PG: Jenkins is coming off very solid rookie campaign that saw him average 10 points and 7 assists. He is expected to take a bigger leap this season and anchor our offense. Bayless provides an okay backup.
SG: Newly signed Eric Gordon is expected to come in and take a big leap in his overall game as he will finally be "the man" for a team. Anything short of 21 PPG would be a disappointment. Rip Hamilton provides amazing depth at the position.
SF: Carlos Few bumped around last year between SG/SF but he is the SF now and after an impressive camp could be our second best scorer. Rip will also serve as a primary backup here with Bjelica being relied upon to play D.
PF: Favors is the man here and looks ready to have a big year three. He should be a 15 and 10 guy this year, though we could see him take it even further. DeAndre Jordan will be the back up here.
C: We are loaded with solid talent here but it'll be the rookie Markoludies getting the chance to start. This will be a very touchy issue early but if the youngster struggles Alabi or Jordan will be ready.

Seattle/Houston Trade
Seattle trades: Rip Hamilton, Solomon Alabi and Kevin Floyd
Houston trades: Al Jefferson
We give up quite a bit here, as Alabi and Floyd are two solid young centers, but with Markoudlies and Jordan already on the team both were expendable.
Rip and Jefferson both have expiring deals, but right now we need more production from our Center spot as Markoudlies develops and Jefferson can surely help us out there.
Our starting five should now be amongst the NBA's most explosive.
