Do people really think of themselves as having a 'status' on facebook anymore? I think it's evolved more to "What do I want to make everyone who knows me read" than as something that applies to you until you change it.

Exactly. Though with the new groups, at least it's an attempt to keep things into smaller groups again and to keep people on longer. I'm over it, but it's still a good way to stay in contact with disparate folks.

The games were doing that just fine, but alas, the simpleton in charge apparently couldn't handle that blow to his ego. The value in FB -- at least now that it's become a platform for adults -- is the breadth, not the depth.

Sorry if this poll is an irritant to people. Having seen "The Social Network" I was curious to see if anyone still spends a lot of time on it.

1. is you're a user who spams drinks and plays FB farming games all day
2. is you don't use Facebook, but have moved on to other things
3. is you're a new mom, the most frequent user and spammer on FB in my experience
4. is the default trout option with the FB twist

I still use Facebook a lot. I run my sports teams through them as 95% of my players have accounts on there and it's a hell of a lot easier for me to set up game events on there to see who is making it and who isn't rather than trying to keep track of everybody via email or phone. Could try and track on a spreadsheet but I can access facebook from home, work or my phone so I can pretty much get an up to the minute update on if I'm needing any replacement players.

Past that I don't do a lot on there other than put up some holiday pictures for people to check out so they don't bug me for them over email, but the site still definitely has it's uses for me.

Just don't think I'm falling into any of the categories you're describing really.

5. I use Facebook sparingly to interact with far-flung friends, but it's not a big part of my online life.

Yeah, this. I guess I fall into the new mom category since I post a lot of pics and videos of my son so his grandparents, who all live 3,000 miles away can see him.

I use Facebook to collect white chicks in my friends list. I don't actually do anything with these white chicks - after all, I'm a faithful married man - but it's like a game of Jungle Fever Pokemon.

For the longest time, I hated facebook and never used it. Then I worked overseas this summer and met some people that became good friends. Now that I'm back in the states I check facebook everyday. Usually to just post smart ass comments, but also to join in discussions from people around the world. I also post pictures from photo shoots I've done or random things. For all that, facebook makes sense.

This.

I leave facebook and gmail open while I bounce between various forums in my free time.

If I don't feel like I'll have much time, I'll just do a quick check of gmail and facebook.

I'm too cool for Facebook, duh. I still post on FOFC, though, which is obviously the coolest place to post anything.

"Please put this on your status if you know someone (or related to someone) who suffers from stupidity. People need to understand that stupidity is a real condition and should be taken seriously. You could be sitting next to a sufferer right now. There is still no known cure for stupidity but ...we can raise awareness. 93% won't copy and paste this because they don't know how to copy and paste!"
