Ten Minute Baseball GM
Concept: A "pick up and play game, when you have 10-20 minutes to spare" with online hooks.
Rough outline:
1. You create your GM "Character"
- He starts at level 1 and is not that great at evaluating talent
2. You have 1,000 points available to draft players from a real MLB season:
(9) Hitters
(5) Starters
(4) Relievers
(1) Closer
3. You only have 10 minutes to make all your picks and spend your 1,000 points wisely.
- The faster you pick the more experience points / score you can gain
4. After your picks you set your default lineups and rotation and the season is played out in seconds... You will see your team's W/L record and basic stats for your players (also tracked historically)
5. Based on how you do you gain experience points and can "level-up" when you level up you can assign skill points to your "GM Character" to:
- Make him better at evaluating player ratings
- Gain more points to spend for future games
- Unlock other cool stuff
6. Achievements: You can get achievements like: 100 Wins, Frugal Master, etc...
7. All of it is connected to an online hub where you can compare yourself to others around the world.
8. Running scores / leaderboards are visible for all other players to see online
9. Each day a winner is chosen from the best score that day. Submit as many as you want.
10. Cool stuff tracked across the entire player base about players simulated season results: Most drafted by season, stats leaders, etc...
Have any promise?

I think the 10 minutes should be a soft deadline as some people (especially from here) may want more time to devote to "their" team.
I think it'd be cool if during th regular season or playoffs the game stopped to show a text highlight of some event or something.

Cool idea. Please feel free to brainstorm here (or tell me if you think the idea is lame)
I am thinking it could be a fun mobile game... After doing a desktop version first.
Another idea I just had was the ability to have a "league" where your scores are against a select group of friends (for some extra fee).

I'm not sure Shaun.
It sounds a little bit like something you could do for free on some website. The idea has promise but I think it would need to be a little deeper than your rough outline.

After reading many of your posts Shaun I think what you really want to do is something like Baseball Mogul online.
I am not sure if you are familiar with it but they used to have this monthly subscription service where for 4.95/month you'd have 1 team, 9.95 you'd get 3 teams, and for 14.95 you'd get the 10 team gold package.
You compete against the other paying customers. The 9.95/14.95 packages allow a person to create and be the commissioner of a league.

How about Puresim Football? :)

Bingo!
For it being the most popular game in the United States right now we sure dont have a lot of options in the text sim market. FOF is a great game however I wouldnt mind a football game comparable to WWSM.(FM)

I wonder if a model closer to Goal Line Blitz is a better idea. What if the game cost 2.99 but you could purchase experience and/or bonus equipment? I don't think GLB was a good game, but I'm sure they made a whole lot of money off of it.
How about Puresim Football? :)
This tbh.

AND Shaun the move is towards free games and then have ads in them. or $.99

I'll be honest, You only have 10 minutes to make all your picks pretty much killed it for me. With the exception of the wee hours of the morning, there really isn't 10 minutes in my life where I know for sure I'm not going to be called away for something, be it work, family, whatever.
And TBH, given the amount of free options that exist for wasting 10-20 minutes, the odds of me paying even $1, much less $10, to do so are extremely slim.

I never stick around playing those games. Give me a game worth $4.99-$19.99 and I'm far more interested.

Good feedback thanks. Sounds like it would not really be to compelling to folks in these parts, and that is important for me to know.

I have toyed with this idea for a long time, but I feel like FOF is so solid, yet Jim is not doing new versions of it, so I can only assume the market opportunity is not as strong as it once was. Starting a new huge game from scratch would only be an option if I had up front funding, and that isn't going to happen.
Guess I should just keep plugging on PureSim (v4 is scheduled for this Spring).
Thanks again.

I think it's VERY strong, but maybe I'm wrong?
Would like a Puresim interface, but a pro football game. Jim has had his update out for a few weeks now and I still haven't played a game - I think I've just grown tired of looking at the same interface for so long now.
Just my $0.02

I'm not really sure if there's a "Very" strong market for any text sim game right now.
I do think if this genre has any chance of being successful in the future, a web based interface is the way to go.
Sounds to me like a free-to-play game, where you can either trudge through many seasons to improve your skills or you can pay real money to do it quicker.
I personally don't enjoy that kind of game, I believe you should be able to be on an even playing field regardless of your financial income, but this model is definitely the hot thing and apparently 10% of all players pay.

As an iPad user, I'd say that a game that's a traditional text sim an app would most certainly be handy. Not only cheaper, but the immersion value would be worth it. I think it could be a good gateway drug for people who've never played desktop versions of the games.
I know iOOTP is coming but...that in the vein of something different would be great. Just sayin

Best suggestion I have seen in a long time.
Puresim football would be a definite day 1 purchase for me.

It's pretty much what Goal Line Blitz is doing and I don't play it anymore. I'm not sure what it was about the game, but it felt like it was missing something. I think doing it where you pay "x" for a season and then run multiple seasons in a year works. This way people can try it out for a season because it's only let's say $4.99 compared to $14.99 for a yearly cost. You could add in career packages as well. Maybe go $9.99 per year for career mode and run three seasons per year.

That basic premise just sounds like some stat simming engine with limited user interaction and little to no game, doesn't sound very appealing.
If anything it would be a title for mobile gaming rather than PC and thus even less interest to me (as I have none).
A football title would make my day but appreciate the time to potential reward isn't likely there to make it viable for you Shaun.
Should I ever win big in the lottery, I'll get you and the other indy guys under contract to deliver a title we'd all wish we had :)
You are now my second choice to win the lottery.
