So what is the over/under on the number of candy hunting goblins to show up for everyone this year?

150 in my neighborhood. They come from all over to trick-or-treat.

Wife and some friends are taking the kids around the neighborhood. They are at spookfest in the city park right now. Another dad and I are starting a fire in the fire pit in the driveway and handing out candy.
Chili is on the stove. Good times.

I'm dissapointed...I went out and got some candy earlier for the kids in my building and hung the little sign...I've had one kid in the last hour.

Just started here. Got my first two (my wife has taken out kids out with her friend and their kids). If last year is any indication it may be around 120 during the two hour period. If it is like last year I am going to be extremely busy in about 10-15 minutes (seemed to hit around 20 after when everyone got to this area and was a steady stream for about an hour).

Our trick or treat was last night, and we had an official count of 179 kids. Always thought it was like 150, but it was even more than I thought.

Usual unpredictability with Halloween on Sunday in a county that declines to designate an official night (most of the other nearby areas say definitely Saturday or definitely Sunday).

So last night we get 10 in one pack around 9pm. Last year was very low, only a small handful (<12 IIRC), so I have no idea what to expect tonight. Meanwhile I'm flying solo, my wife & son have gone over to help manage the door for my mother-in-law.

As expected, just got swamped over the last 20 minutes with about 60 kids.

I live on a dirt road near a busy area and anybody who has kids are on the older side so I get nobody.

My wife and I are on our annual watching of "The Nightmare Before Christmas". We also just passed 30 kids with the last batch at the door. Glad we got extra candy- we weren't sure what to expect.

We are at about 35-40 now, which is about normal.

I had the kids out, hit about 30 houses. Our street and the next one down, which is a dead end. We take the wagon, and they ride back. At that point, they get the call, keep going onto the next street, or back home. It's about 45 out tonight here, and they picked go home, so we were out about 75 minutes.

Now, I am going to pick through their candy, take all the good stuff, and watch the Steelers :p

Looks like this year is slower than last. Had a stretch with quite a few but only just broke three figures. Actually have some left over at this point. as afraid that I was going to run out for a while but it seemed to stop as quickly as it started. Still about 15 minutes left but that will probably only be a couple of kids if that.

I meant to tell my kids friends who live in the area to come back near the end and I would give them more if I had any left over but they came in one of the big rushes and had left before I could tell them.

I live in the suburbs, and got about 20, but I remember when I was that age (living in the same house) that there were 100s of kids walking around. I know some of the malls around here have trick or treating inside them, so maybe that's the deal now.

Folks here ship their rugrats from all over the county to this neighborhood.

Its unlike anything Ive ever seen or grew up around as a kid.

Cops have to come and shutdown the gate. Nobody in/out for a few hours because the streets are flooded with trick or treaters.

Words really cannot describe it.

Its unlike anything Ive ever seen or grew up around as a kid.

Cops have to come and shutdown the gate. Nobody in/out for a few hours because the streets are flooded with trick or treaters.

Sounds like our first few years living down in Monticello. It was insanity, we eventually started pre-packaging the candy into little bags so that all we had to do was grab & drop instead of fumbling with the loose candy. Eventually got so bad that we put a couple of teenage family friends on the payroll for the night just to help out (one of us had to take our own child out).

We got...1. A friend of mine with their 1 month old infant in tow.

So in 3 halloweens in this house, we've gone from a good 50-60 kids, to about 10, to none. Sheesh.

A lot this year, well over 200. My son and I were out for almost 2 hours. Some houses he had to wait in line 10 deep.

we had 1 kid come to our house. we also took the kids out trick-or-treating and were surprised at how few houses had their lights on. it was so weird - i felt like we were the only people still celebrating halloween.

We have a neighbor who hands out 1 lb. Candy bars. He bought 200 of them this year. He went thru those and was handing out small candy bars. It was busy.

It sounds like you're giving out too much candy. If the neighborhood has a lot of houses (I'm assuming it does to get that many kids), 1 piece is sufficient Id' think.

And even at 700 pieces, what kind of high-end candy are you buying that you need 25 bags to get to 700?! ;)


We had 150-200 kids. We also get tons of out of neighborhood kids. There are only like 100 houses in our neighborhood.

Halloween was slower this year in my area because of the really cold weather. As the sun went down, the temperature was in the 30s with strong, bitter wind. Made it feel more like New Years than Halloween out there.

Last year we had probably close to 100-110 kids. This year maybe about 30 or so. Many of the kids were actually being driven door to door by parents (Don't ask me why since the houses were so close together that made no sense to me. Maybe just to give them somewhere warm to run into for a second to thaw before the next house).

We have friends that live in East Point area, they block off their street and it's quite a sight. People from the houses dressed as zombies chasing after kids, chainsaws, etc. We left at 8 because our little one was overtired and having a fit, but they were nearing 400 pieces of candy. Everyone drives their kids to this neighborhood, half of the kids aren't even really dressed up.

Numbers down for the second straight year this year-and it was a beautiful night here in Myrtle Beach area, so no reason not for kids to be out. Very weird here compared to upstate NY when I was a kid. Back then all but the very young would come out after dark, and be out past 9pm.

Down here we start getting them around 6 pm, and by 8 pm it was basically over for us-well it was for us at least as we turned the lights off so we could watch Amazing Race in peace. :) But the kids really had stopped coming by this point. About 30 or so kids altogether. We live in a isolated from other developments, so generally only get from the development, and we live on perhaps the most isolated road as well, but 300 or so houses in the development, so would expect more kids.

We handed out Rice Krispies treats for the first time this year. They came in three flavors, and I highly recommend the Strawberry one-wasn't expecting to like it that much, but it was nice and light and had good strawberry flavor :)
