...please refresh his user info from time to time. If he logs in again and reads that thread, send a PM to cuervo72, digamma, wademoore, RyanS, and me *IMMEDIATELY*. We need to find him. I don't have time now, but I'll give more details later. As of this post, his last login was yesterday at 7:08am EST.

Here's his user profile:

As for more details, all I want to share right now is that:

The posts on Sunday were from Las Vegas.
He lives in Texas.
His login yesterday morning was from another city, not in a place that one would consider "on the way" from Vegas to his hometown.
His family has filed a missing person report.
Yes, that was really his daughter who posted in the thread.
There is no reason to believe that "Stormy58" is a duplicate account of a known poster. Sure, it's possible, but there's no evidence whatsoever leading in that direction.
All indications are that he is exactly who he presented himself to be: a lurker who had never posted before.
Every single detail he posted has checked out, as has every single bit of information he gave behind the scenes when he registered.
In short, there's absolutely no reason to believe this isn't a very real threat.

I have to say, first of all, that everything seems to be okay at this point and that no life was taken. Second - and this is miniscule compared to everything else that is going on - a situation like this makes me proud to be a part of a community like FOFC, knowing that we have people in our midst who genuinely care about the welfare of people that come here. It could've been very easy to dismiss that first post, but because of the people involved, things turned out alright. I honestly get a little choked up thinking about that. Thanks to all involved.

It's good to be part of a community where everyone is trustworthy enough to open a forum like this. Or where you can PM people who were posting in that initial thread asking them to keep him engaged so there's time to track them.

Just about any other board out there you can't do that. All it takes is one griefer.

Unfortunately there was some of that in the thread. But thankfully those posts were deleted.

Well, at least the ones I saw were just kind of ignorant more than anything. I don't think they were actually trying to insult him, they thought blunt honesty would get through to him. Not to bright, but different.

No one alerted him that we were tracking to find his location or were in touch with his family. No one abused this post when it was put up. As obvious as it seems not to, most boards there is always that group who wants to blow those things up. It's good to have a community where Ben can let these things be known and not be concerned that people would use the information improperly.

This is the internet, it's rare. I guess that's why I still visit this place.

I told them behind the scenes but amazing job, I just learned of this subforum today.

As someone who has been touched closely by suicide, my Brother in Law left my sister with 3 kids under age 2, I can say Ben and Cuervo saved more than one life that night. They helped keep all the people close to Stormy whole, there is a part of you that you will never get back when someone close to you takes their own life.

I hope Stormy gets the help he needs and am proud to be part of this community, this place is so different than your average message board and we are all lucky to have the relationships we have formed here.

Beautifully said Lathum, Ben and Cuervo are the epitomy of heroes to me. It was an incredibly caring act that can not be praised enough. Outstanding job guys, just outstanding!! And I too hope Stormy can get whatever help is need and put his life back together. This is a wonderful world and there is so much to experience with your loved ones. I wish him nothing but the best as well as many years enjoying those experiences yet to come!!

There is an update. This news, while not 100% definitive, will likely be construed by most as discouraging. I am enclosing the information in spoiler tags just so that you can be sure you want to know more before reading on.

This is our guy. He went missing over a year after the FOFC saga.

Damn. I remember being all over that thread when that went down. At least we did manage to delay what happened and gave his family and friends more time with him to try their best to help him.
