Okay I am 6 episodes into watch this and I am scratching my head. I am a huge fan of Band of Brothers but I feel that The Pacific falls way short of matching up with it. Am I the only one who this far said what the heck? I know I have four more episodes to watch but I gotta say The Pacific so far is just meh.
Yes I know I am behind the times but since I do not have HBO I am renting the disks through Netflix.

I likes the Pacific, but I went into it having read the Sledge book already. Europe and the Pacific were very different wars. Europe lent itself to following a unit through the ups and downs of combat and rest periods. The fighting in the Pacific was comparably so much more brutal and the casualty rates were so much higher, it took it's toll on the men much more quickly. Since the narrative bounces around much more, you have less recurring characters, and so I think it comes across as more distant, but overall I think they did a hell of a job.
Band of Brothers is my all time fav TV serie and have watched it like 10 times, so i was also expecting a lot about the Pacific and also was dissapointed, specially after the first 3 chapters (3rd one was specially boring with the love story).
After that, there is way more action and enjoyed it a lot, specially the airfield chapter, but not to the point of BOB.
I guess sachmo is right, and the European scenario is more appealing at least to me, plus following the same core of guys for the whole serie is better than following different characters.

Icy an Sachmo I think you may have hit the nail on the head. I think with Band of Brothers I was able to get to know the characters each and every episode whereas in The Pacific I have not.

Part of it is my job, but I've watched BOB at least 10 times and it never gets old. I watched the Pacific about a year ago and haven't felt the urge to watch it again. worth watching once.

BOB never gets old. Love the weekends when it's on and nothing to do but just lounge.
Pacific I'll never watch again.

I wish they would have just focused on Sledge and his unit, I read his book and they could have easily gotten a full 10 episodes out of what they did. The other two were good stories as well but jumping around made it hard to watch.
Some of the decisions they made were odd as well. One episode they start with about a 30 second scene with Sledge and his group and then the rest of the episode is not about them. That scene made no sense in the overall feel of the series.
Plus they seemed to waste way too much time with Hanks monologue and the highlights of previous episodes. Seems that there was only about 35 minutes of actual episode (as they all seemed to be done by quarter till).

Think I'll make this weekend a BoB weekend, now I am in the mood to watch it.

Just saw that as well. Will catch parts of the early episodes (in and out during the afternoon) and probably watch the rest tonight.

My wife and I have watched 7 episodes of the Pacific and while it's interesting enough to keep watching, it's clearly not on the same level as Band of Brothers.
I've watched Band of Brothers quite a few times and have it on BluRay (after previously purchasing it on DVD) and love having it in my collection.
I don't think I'll ever watch the Pacific again once I'm done with it. Still, it's not bad.

:+1:
I thought that some of the Sledge episodes were exceptional. When I watch the series again, I will probably just watch eps 5,6,7,9 and 10 (which focus on Sledge and his unit)
