For those who haven't seen their hoops team play, they easily have the best student section in college basketball. Here are some highlights:

Too many colleges have pushed students out and away from the court to make room for high-paying boosters with not nearly as much emotion. Good for Utah State to have about a third of the stadium from top to bottom filled with students. That seems to be the key here.

The most creative my high school got was, " Break me off a piece, Break me off a piece, Break me off a piece of the bullshit call. "

Yeah, but you all didn't have 4,000 students doing it at the same time. On national television.

Gotta love those.

So I used to be one of those high-paying boosters for Fresno State's basketball team, until they literally priced me out. My level of season ticket went from $900 to $3600 when they built the new arena. During that stint at the old arena I got a call from a fund raiser.
Fund Raiser/extortionist:"We've added two new sections of court side seats, and want to know if you're interested in moving?"
Me:"Added new court side sections? How does that work?"
Fund Raiser/extortionist:"Well we moved the student section"
This was followed by a tirade on my part. In any case I'm very much against taking the college game away from the students. Too bad the people making the decisions for almost all schools are in the other camp.

Good for you! Duke certainly has its problems, but they get this part right. Cameron is the Mecca of college basketball in a large part because, other than press row and the timekeeper, the floor is entirely surrounded by students.

When the RBC Center was built, they made sure that State students still got the seats around the court. It's not nearly as intimidating as it was in Reynolds when the students along the sidelines were pretty much on top of the action (factoid: Reynolds and Cameron Indoor were built with the same blueprint, the difference being Everett Case got the arena extended on both ends during construction to get the capacity to 12,000, which naturally led to some awkward seats and obstructed views).
I believe Maryland made the same decision when they built Comcast Center and even UNC saw the error of their ways by getting more courtside seating for the students at the Dean Dome over the years. Most of the sideline seats there are still dominated by the high-rollers, though.
