I do not like fiction so I thought I would steal some thunder from the "what are you reading" thread.

I have a long commute so I listen to a lot of books.

Here are some recent rec's:

Big Short, Michael Lewis, 10/10

Notes from a Sunburned Country, Bryson 9/10

War, Junger 8/10

Nasty Bits, Bourdain 7/10

Worst Hard Time, Egan 8/10

It's a beast of a book, but Nixonland is fantastic.

I recently finished Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage, and that was a great listen. Very good narration.

Not technically an "audiobook", but The History of Rome podcast has been around for awhile is now over 50 hours long in total. I would definitely recommend it for any one interested in history.

I don't listen to a lot of non-fiction, but ones I've listened to and would recommend are Shadow Divers: The True Adventure of Two Americans Who Risked Everything to Solve One of the Last Mysteries of World War II. Yes, it's a long title. And there is some drama on the Amazon review as to how accurate it is. But I still quite enjoyed it (I am a diver, FWIW).

I'd also recommend Confessions of an Economic Hitman. It was an interesting (and again, I'm unsure of how "true" it is) look into some of the behind-the-scenes stuff that goes on with intelligence and multi-national corporations.

I've heard good things about but have not listened to Legacy of Ashes: The History of the CIA.

I've also listened to Memo to the President Elect, by Madeleine Albright. I don't agree with everything she said, and since she narrated it, it could be grating for some, but I thought it was interesting. She's a smart lady.

If you have any interest in caving and do not have any issues reading about a total prick of a man, you might also like Blind Descent. I hated it, but I have met the man who most of the book is about and really, I have problems reading anything that makes this guy seem anything but an a-hole. Small world, which I didn't know at the time I was interacting with either of them, this man's ex-wife is my former physical therapist (I moved away from the area is the only reason I don't still see here--she was GREAT).

I reviewed Shadow Divers and Blind Descent on my Goodreads account.

Also, Matterhorn. It's an historical novel on Vietnam. It won all sorts of best book awards for 2010.

I also love everything Jon Krakauer writes, Into Thin Air, Into the Wild, Under the Banner of Heaven, and Where Men Win Glory: The Odyssey of Pat Tillman.
