I had never heard of him. Then I read this BBC article: BBC News - Phineas Gage: The man with a hole in his head (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-12649555)

So an iron bar is shot thru his skull, landing 25 ft away... and he walks away!

Since I have the same last name as him, I knew about the story. For some reason, I always assumed he had skin and hair, though.
