I was going to show a movie at the end of my students' poetry unit called, Slam," but after reading reviews it sounds boring and slightly inappropriate for sophomores.
With Dead Poet's Society not being an option, what is another movie relating to poetry that could work that's around 100 mins in length?
Thanks for the recommendations! Preferably something not rated worse than PG-13.

Why is Dead Poets Society not an option?

Why is Dead Poets Society not an option?
R rating is my guess.

How about Finding Forrester? It deals with writing (Sean Connery's character as a reclusive writer).
BTW, Dead Poets Society is a PG film, so I don't know why it isn't an option.
There's another about a writer that has an R rating, but I think that's only because of drug use: Wonder Boys.

I don't know the ratings but maybe roxanne which is the modern retelling of cyrano or maybe looking for Richard which might have to do more with Shakespeare than poetry. Likewise stranger than fiction is excellent but I guess is more about fiction than poetry. So in short I tried to help but probably didn't at all. I'll keep brainstorming. Oh maybe Shakespeare in love? I don't know.

I am confused about Dead Poets Society not being an option as well!

I imagine it might be because it is the most obvious choice.

I thought about Shakespeare in Love as we're about to begin Macbeth, but it's rated R (nudity I believe).

Heh. I was going to suggest Shakespeare in Love because of nekkid Gwyneth Paltrow.
(Which, honestly, is the absolutely least impressive part of that whole movie. Tom Stoppard wrote such an amazing screenplay there.)

Never seen Shakespeare in Love, maybe I should. The trailer didn't impress me.
