2-5 inches of snow predicted. I was watching NOAA all morning. Saw when the snow was coming. My daughter had a basketball game 30 miles North. Back roads, local highways was the route. Pondered not going. The game was at 1 pm. Called my neighbor whose daughter also plays. They were going. Thought I should go also.
Game got over at 2.
Snow was falling. Big, wet flakes. Here we go. Got on Highway 40. Road was pretty bad. Went to the 1st back road. Windy, uphill jaunt. We got stuck. A snow plow came through. It took about a 1/2 hour to go up a quarter mile hill.
This road turns into a local 2 lane highway. Highway 109. Very hilly. Cuts through the hills. At the south end is the local ski establishment. Made it about 2 miles on this road. Became stuck. Wasnt going to make up the 1st hill.
A guy comes by and says a side road is pretty usable. Not too bad. Lots of trees, a couple hills. Made up the 1st hill with little issues. Got to the one lane bridge and a car was in the ditch. 3 cars stopped to help. I got out and helped as well. We got him out. Back in the van. 20 feet from the road I get stuck on a hill going to a stop sign. Cant go anywhere. Cars are stopped behind me. No one helping me. A big SUV coming from other way goes into ditch next to me. We have blocked the road. A guy in a truck with a plow pulls up behind me. He knows the women in the SUV. She is local. Another guy comes from the opposite way in a truck. They offer to put a chain on me and pull me up the hill. Im in.
And now Im out. Im a heavily traveled road going East. I have made it about 5 miles as the crow travels. It is about 4:30, 2 1/2 hours later.
Finally, get back to Highway 40, going to 270 to 44 and home. Visibility it about 100 yards.
Finally made it home at 5:30. Wow. My shoulders ache and I have a headache. I need a nap.
