What is a Dynasty?

I've been reading a few of these now and even am playing in one.
I just wondered exactly what do you guys define them as? And how did they start? Are they just taking a random game and soloing it with your favorite team or is even more than that?

Pretty much anything you want. There are real life dynasties where people chronicle situations or things. There are solo dynasties, multiplayer dynasties where they chronicle their team and their performance. No real restrictions except one's creativity.

It's basically just stories of your favorite games and most times it's solo, but...they really run the gamut in terms of their depth and diversity.
