Anyone been following?
Final 4 is Rodgers vs Hillis Petersen vs Vick.
I think it will be very interesting if Vick ends up winning.

Michael Vick? Why would EA even want to include that as an option? Do they have some PR backlash specialists with nothing to do?

If Vick is on the cover I will never buy the fucking game again and I will do everything in my power to make sure that no one I know ever will.

You'd think, but who knows? This thread reminded me to go vote in the semis; the last time I voted was the first round.

There's no such thing as bad publicity.
Or, put another way, including Vick is a way to fire up people to vote, whether it's for him or against him. That creates greater visibility for the product, especially leading into a season when there may be no 'real' pro football.
I doubt very much he actually wins, but it's not a bad thing from their perspective for him to be a candidate.

They should put the Seahawks on the cover.

I'm not sure that's true when you're trying to sell something. Ideally, you don't want your customers feeling bad about themselves when think about buying your product.

I suspect (hope fervently) that much of Vick's support comes from that segment of the population that believes a Madden cover presages injury and disappointment in the coming year.

If I bothered to vote, I'd vote for Vick, because that's the most interesting outcome, and EA deserves that outcome for having Vick be even an optoin.

I'm fairly sure this is ea's passive aggressive way of getting vick on the cover..
the meeting went something like this
"Hey, we should put vick on the cover this year, however his legal/moral issues may pose a problem"
"I KNOW!!!, lets hold a contest and let the fickle public vote vick in, that way we can say "we were just following what the public wants"

Well, you cherry-picked what I said. Of course that's going to change whether or not bad publicity does, in fact, exist.

I intentionally cherry-picked that popular phrase ("there's no such thing as bad publicity"), because I think it's one of our more ridiculous and untrue famous phrases.

I think/hope Dan was being a little sarcastic up there /\ . Because I think if just someone being on the cover of a simple video game, I really don't think that should make you go fucking ballistic , never buy madden again and do what you ever you can to make sure everyone around you doesn't buy it. You do realize vick is IN the game right?
Its a cover pic, of a video game. Who cares?!??!????
I understand the point, but I think that may be going a little bit too far...

Honestly I'm not really being that sarcastic. This is a person that killed dogs for fun. He doesn't deserve any of the accolades that have been put upon him since he was caught. It is in extremely poor taste and bad judgement to put someone that has been convicted of a felony on the cover of anything, it glorifies what he did.

Yowza, "forgive" is very different from "don't really give a shit what he does in his personal life so long as he's awesome on the football field."
You want to fight the good fight against dog fighting? How about volunteering or donating money to the local SPCA. That seems a lot more productive than, "I'LL NEVR BUY MADDEN BECAUSE VICKS A BAD MAN".

Been there done that, including having 4 adopted animals.
I could have cared less about his personal life, until he decided to commit a felony and break the law. To each his own but I'll never be a fan of him or any team he plays for. Just like I won't support any product that choose to use him as the cover model.

Sounds like you've got it covered. Of course it's all relative.
I mean, Vick is a saint, dangarion's an asshole ... but compared to how I feel about Vick, the Eagles ownership and the NFL administration that allowed this sack of shit to even buy a ticket much less play in the league dangarion is a saint & I'm evil incarnate.
It's all about the relativity.

Everybody's entitled to their own opinion about Vick - not sure why people feel the need to attack each other and snipe at each other about their own personal opinions of him or decisions that they make based upon those opinions.

I don't like what he did but I'm not going to throw a tantrum like my youngest daughter when she gets grounded just because he's on the cover of a freaking video game. I stand by my statement... Lighten Up Francis
There are far worse things that he could have done and that others have done. I would love to hear your opinion on Don King and if you ever watched a boxing match that he promoted.
Personally I can think of a dozen or more reasons to not pick up Madden before even worrying about who is on the cover.

I'm not sure why DanGarion DOESN'T want Vick on the cover ... with that cover jinx and all. And especially with what happened to Vick last time he was on the cover:
After appearing on the cover of Madden NFL 2004, Michael Vick broke his leg in pre-season and missed the first 12 games, with the Atlanta Falcons going 5–11.
Young Drachma

I was just gonna say. Maybe the whole point is to jinx Vick so he gets the curse again. It'll probably be Hillis though, seems like a no-brainer in terms of the court of public opinion game.

Everybody does realize that EA isn't obligated to put the winner of the poll on the cover of Madden if they don't want to, right?
It's just another way for them to get more free publicity and marketing out there for the game...

sorry I left it too general, I guess I mean as a person in our society, do we want to hate on people forever after making a big mistake, or do we want to root for them to change their ways? I for one feel much more comfortable rooting for them to change. Wouldn't that be the better option?
