Anyone watch this? I liked it from start to finish. The Weekend Update style segment was great, the Blake Griffin thing was pretty good and the Tiger bit/rant was brilliant imo. One of the biggest criticisms I've heard of the Onion Sports show is that its recorded way in advance and isn't topical at all. This was clearly recorded this week, plus Norm is waaaay funnier than anyone on the Onion show.

Not on my radar. I always got the sense that Norm thought he was twice as funny as he really was. Hopefully this will work out for him...

Love Norm. The guy has had so many unforgettable moments in his career. Anyone see the Comedy Central Roast he did where he purposely bombed his routine and just dead panned it? Was made all the better by the silence in the crowd.
If he created a pile of crap show I'd probably still watch it to support Norm.

Remember Norm hosting the 1998 ESPYs? The last time the ESPYs were worth watching. Hilarious. That awesome convergence of "he's killing" and "they'll never ask him back."
The negative reaction to Norm from the sports community and ESPN people solidified the breaking point between "we're doing a half-parody awards show" and "we're officially taking ourselves just as seriously as all the traditional awards shows."

I love the press corps dinner one as well. A lot of good rips on politicians and media types with the same sort of reaction as the ESPY's.

You know what's sad about this, and I guess it says a lot about the evolution of comedy and what one generation finds funny versus the next, but that whole thing sounded like a Johnny Carson monologue to me, and there he was trying to be purposely unfunny.

He read jokes told from previous Friar's Club roasts (from the 1960s-70s). Comedy Central didn't want to air it, because they didn't think it was funny. It was stupendous.

Ha, I did not know that. That's great.
I must have watched a repeat shown well after the original airing. I did not know Norm was cut and then reinstated until just reading up on it. Just watched that roast in it's entirety and the only things I remembered about it was Norm and the fact that Bob Saget raped and murdered a girl in 1990.

The best part of those roast jokes to me is the one where he says Stamos only needs one drink to get drunk, but he doesn't know if it's the 9th or 10th. No reaction so he waits a few seconds and says "or the 11th". There's just a subtle brilliance to that line that cracks me up every time.
I like the Sports Show. Some stuff obviously needs to be worked on, the pacing mostly. The Griffin stuff was awesome, especially the part where he kicks the ball away to get more to time to catch his breath. I think a lot of us have probably done that at some point.

I went and saw him a few years ago, it was probably the funniest live performance I have seen in my life, my girlfriend at the time was not as impressed. We actually ran into him at the bar next door after the show and got a picture. I can remember him saying some crude comment about my girlfriend and then "Eh, taking a picture with a phone eh..." and going into some several minute long tangent about his dad taking pictures of some big event when he was a kid and a typical Norm cheesy punchline that had nothing to do with the story “and he couldn’t get the damn thing to work”. I thought it was brilliant but my girlfriend questioned my sense of humor from then on out.

Yeah, I definitely have a few new posters to keep an eye out for in the movie and TV threads as this type of humor is right up my alley. I know it will sound real cliché but Norm was actually very cool in person. I really was just looking for a quick picture to show my buddies and he ends up talking to us and telling jokes for a few minutes. (My girlfriend at the time was really cute and out of my league and I think he liked looking at her :) )
One of the funniest Norm things that I haven't seen mentioned yet in this thread is him on The View a few years ago. Barbara Walters had no idea what he was up to and he has some hilarious bits. I was kind of disappointed this past week though because I am also a fan of Bill Simmons and he had Norm on his show and I think Norm was fucking with him pretty bad on a few parts and Simmons seemed oblivious. It was kind of uncomfortable to listen to in certain parts, I figured Simmons would be aware of the sort of shit Norm pulls.
I have the show DVRed and will check back into the thread after watching it but I am sure I will love it.

Norm is great. He's really the king of comedy, doing this type of comedy long before everyone else started doing it (The Office is a prime example).

I've been pretty indifferent on this one. He's had a couple really great lines, but I still think Gabe was better. This season has been down though without the Full Tilt guys so that's probably hurting my impression of it as well.

I think Gabe was better from a pure poker standpoint, but from an entertainment standpoint, I have enjoyed Norm better. His line in the first show about Doyle (or someone?) having "sucked out on cancer" was great.
He has a couple of great lines per show, but you have to wait 'em out. I think the last show he said something about someone "disguising the strength of their hand" and it was like a 5-7 vs. AA and QQ... and the frickin' 5-7 guy won. No one was more surprised than Norm.

I don't watch the show, so maybe this is clear if you do, but I read somewhere that Norm specifically asked not to see the hole cards when doing commentary.
