My wife is pregnant and yesterday we found out the sex of the baby. We're having a little girl. Due date is Sept 23.
The first baby for both of us (we're both 34). It's a high risk pregnancy so we waited about 4 months before we told anyone (she didn't start really showing until a couple of weeks ago). Took almost 6 months of trying to let it happen and another 6 months of really trying.

Is it normal to be more terrified than happy??

Congrats Rizon!!! It's absolutely normal to be more terrified than happy but that little girl will be the greatest thing that will ever happen to you!!

Gratz! As a father of two, I can say that there's nothing better in the world than your kids if you enjoy parenting.

Note: it's a lot of joy, but not a lot of fun much of the time.

Congrats!

Perfectly normal to be terrified. My wife and I were 34 when we had our son as well and the timing was great. Enjoy it!

Haha, you remember that car? I had to get rid of it several years ago. Moved out of the ghetto AND stopped working in the ghetto, too.

But I do have a sportscar I need to get rid of and swap for a family truckster. Need something to haul spawns and my dog/beast around in.

Congrats. The real terror for me came the day we went home from the hospital, but no shame in starting early.

+1

The real terror is when you realize that you are about to take this baby home and be responsible for it.

Congratulations!

I was terrified, frustrated, miserable, and felt alone (my wife and me) for the first few weeks of my baby girl's life. But then something happened and she recognized me for the first time and gave a hint of a smile. That smile was the first of many to follow, and now I look forward to coming home from work to see it one more time.

And the only bad thing about having a girl...instead of worrying about one penis, you worry about them all... :)

Congrats...I have a 3-year-old daughter and it was truly the best thing that ever happened to me. It's scary as hell, but amazing all at once!

Baby isn't here yet, but can come at any day.

Pregnancy has gone really well. No complications, morning sickness or back pains, etc. She's just had some indigestion. She was moved from high risk to low risk a couple months ago.

Bag is packed, car seat is installed in the car I traded my sportscar for last month. Baby room is set up, diapers are bought. Have swings, wipes, cribs, bouncy chairs, other things I have no idea what they are for, more diapers, breastfeeding kit, onesees(?), maybe twosees. We took a bunch of classes and the labor ward tour. I've been getting up 1-2 hours early for the last month, plus over the last 9 months I've been getting up with our puppy to let her out at night, to at least practice for the lack of sleep. So now I can thoroughly say I haven't the slightest idea what I'm supposed to do, but I'm well prepared for it!

I'm so anxious I just want to yell AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

Take gatorade. When they told me it was time push, I felt a little light headed so I chugged a bottle and saved the other one to pour over my wife when it was done. Needless to say, that was vetoed immediately.

Make sure there is a tv in the babies room. Not for the baby, but, for you.

I thought about this, towards the beginning of the pregnancy. I thought, "the baby is going to be born in late September, right around the time the A's might be in the thick of the pennant race!".

Nothing, and I say nothing, will prepare you for the lack of sleep you're going to experience. But don't worry, it'll end at about 4-5 months when she finally is able to sleep through the night.

Ah man. Well not all is lost, you can still show her first hand how money ball works. You just point to the TV at the end of October and say, "See, there's no A's games until next year". ;)

Bullshit. My son is almost 21 months old and still doesn't sleep through the night...

BAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

My son was born during a UTEP-Oklahoma basketball game. My dad was trying to be helpful (and discrete), but my wife certainly didn't appreciate him sticking his head into the room every 15 minutes to give me an update while she was busy pushing...

Baby Kira was born Wednesday morning at 4:53am. Mom got lucky and only had to do 18 minutes of pushing. Everything has been good (knock on wood). The most tiring part so far is dealing with everyone calling and texting and emailing, especially grandparents

congrats - as a father of four I can say I have never done anything else that was remotely as rewarding or enjoyable as being a dad, just not every minute of it.

my best advice is do not worry about keeping up with friends and the things you use to do - the first 6 months are a blur of no sleep, spitup and no free time. But they are also full of some of the most pure honest and simple love and happiness you will ever feel - enjoy it, dont worry about what you are missing, real friends will still be there when you finally emerge.

The last year went by so fast. It sure is a lot of fun to see her learn and grow and discover new things. She quickly took to liking monkeys. Her first word to ended up being "bird". Second word was "baby".
Here are a few chronological pictures of how she's grown the last year.
