Don't know if I like Summit Entertainment doing it or Hood directing...but I am excited to see how it pans out.

Eh - now that I've discovered that Card has vile social-views I'm not sure I'll be able to support this movie and enjoy it.

I won't pay for it - but I'll catch it on HBO or whatever - because like you I loved the book when I was younger. And that way if I find that I can't enjoy it, I'll shut it off.
Kind of a fucked-up novel though isn't it? All these adults training all these little kids into military geniuses, and then tricking them into committing genocide? That's some fucked up shit.
He's beyond weird into downright vile IMO.

I didn't realize this...
OSC suffered a mild stroke on Saturday 1 January 2011. He is now back home, retraining his brain so that the fingers of his left hand strike the keys he's aiming for. He will not be responding to most emails because his typing time must be devoted to finishing his fiction. But he is grateful for your good wishes and he promises not to die with any series unfinished.
For the foreseeable future, OSC will not make any public appearances or undertake any travel. Since his speech is unimpaired, he will still conduct radio and recorded interviews.

I was in a Young Authors forum back in 6th, 7th and 8th grade. I met him personally and actually discussed some of my writing with him. It was an amazing and awe inspiring time.
As for how he is now, I don't know...I see a lot of my friends from Utah thinking the same and talking the same about society and the future in general. I don't know whats caused the shift but it's definitely there.

His latest kooky-ass book, that "Empire" POS is something that Jon would love - all about some liberal-pinko secret plot to take over the US, complete with something called the "Progressive War" (and no I've never read it - just educated myself on it through the internet).

I never read anything past Ender's Game, but I throughly enjoyed it. Should be an interesting adaptation for sure.

People For the American Way (http://site.pfaw.org/site/PageServer?pagename=media_2009_04_nom_board_member_advocates_overthrow_of_government), quote Card:Laws against homosexual behavior should remain on the books…to be used when necessary to send a clear message that those who flagrantly violate society's regulation of sexual behavior cannot be permitted to remain as acceptable, equal citizens. It gets worse. Seriously. How long before married people answer the dictators thus: Regardless of law, marriage has only one definition, and any government that attempts to change it is my mortal enemy. I will act to destroy that government and bring it down, so it can be replaced with a government that will respect and support marriage, and help me raise my children in a society where they will expect to marry in their turn. Biological imperatives trump laws. American government cannot fight against marriage and hope to endure. If the Constitution is defined in such a way as to destroy the privileged position of marriage, it is that insane Constitution, not marriage, that will die.
Card represents the Mormon church on the board of the National Organization for Marriage.
And with that I'll take my anti-Card crusade out of this thread and let you all discuss the movie.

I read and quite enjoyed Ender's Game about 10 years ago or so. Wasn't blown away, but it was a neat little book with a good ending. I picked up another book which I thought was the sequel but was in fact 2 or 3 books later, can't recall it's title, and boy had it fallen off the rails...

Eh, that's obviously fiction ... there's nothing all that secret about the leftist plot to destroy America. ... :D
As for OSC, I liked Ender as a character but was never a big fan of the series as a whole. That probably accounts for why I couldn't have told you much about the author beyond knowing vaguely that he was LDS.

It will disappoint. Way to easy to go cheesy popcorn scifi with this.

Yah. A sci-fi Harry Potter will be the studios plan most likely.

Ender's Shadow was pretty good as well. Can't speak for the rest, but I've heard they're pretty awful.
