In a rarity, we have 2 openings this offseason. Two of our long-time owners had to retire due to work and family needing more time. We are in our 7th or 8th real life year, and are about to start the 2040 offseason (started in 2003). The Reds just stormed into the playoffs in the final 2 sims and defeated the heavily favored Dodgers in the NLCS before dispatching the more heavily favored Indians. They were led by Rob Sullivan, who broke Hank Aaron's HR record and then some, despite never even coming close to the single-season record.
The first open team is the Atlanta Braves (http://www.united-baseball.org/news/html/teams/team_15.html). They haven't had a winning season since their WC appearance in 2033 but are poised to make a run. They have the #1 pick coming up, a 24M payroll, and some good farm hands. Add in established players like former Cy Young winner John "Echo" King (http://www.united-baseball.org/news/html/players/player_4200.html) and upcoming star Alfredo Rosales (http://www.united-baseball.org/news/html/players/player_8240.html) and this is a team near ready to compete in one of the easier divisions.
The other team is the Baltimore Orioles (http://www.united-baseball.org/news/html/teams/team_1.html). They have a tough challenge as the Yanks have won the division each of the last 9 years and the Red Sox are starting to show signs of life. The O's last made the playoffs in 2030 and haven't had a disciplined approach. They did have the league's best defense in 2039, a team ZR of +96.6...more than double the closest team. They did this thanks to Austin Eveson's (http://www.united-baseball.org/news/html/players/player_5645.html) near ridiculous +47.8 ZR in CF. Their offense is severely lacking, though Sam Smith (http://www.united-baseball.org/news/html/players/player_6033.html) can knock on occasion. They have a 60M payroll and not much in the farm...a rebuilder's challenge.
We are an active league that was started here at FOFC using OOTP12. There are 5-6 of us on the v12 beta and some on the new one, so the knowledge base is decent. We are moving our site over in the next week to one that is statslab based and it is awesome. We have a 100M salary cap, a few trade restrictions to prevent flipping, and every single team has made the playoffs in the existence of the league...pretty cool.
