This odd looking contraption was in our backyard (actually on the side of the house) when we moved in. Does anybody have any clue as to...well...you know...

Maybe I should mention that it's about 3' long and a foot and a half thick :)
Perhaps you meant fuzzy dice?

I believe those were used to burn trash. Not positive though. A house I lived in growing up had one on the side too.

Assuming that there's no door/opening on it that I'm just not seeing, my guess would be that it's some sort of gardening tool on an oversized scale.
If it had a door, I'd say it's one of those barrels used for drawing names out of of.

We've been guessing that too...someone said it might be used for leveling dirt, or something to that effect. There's no door, at least not that I can figure out how to open. It obviously connected to something else at some point, hence the little doohickey on the bottom of the picture.
We recently had a big family garage sale here, and we included this in the sale just for the sake of trying to figure out what it was. We put a label on it and called it a "thingy" asking $5 (we would have taken 25 cents). Nobody could figure out what it was...

Looks like a finish/safety roller to me. Puts textured surface on concrete (ramps, etc) or can be used as a first pass before you float the slab. Sometimes one trails behind a soil cultivator to put a nice even finish on tilled soil. Usually not quite as tall as that one, though.

I think you're supposed to poop in it.

Looks like one of the things they use in New Mexico to roast chili peppers.

Aylmar is correct. I've seen one used as a soil activator. It is missing the handle and that apparently caused the confusion.

Whatever you do, don't move it. It can cause severe nausea, etc.

I did notice someone named "Cyril" texting her yesterday. I'm guessing it's just a friend.

Well, whatever it is, we listed it on craigslist in the "Free" section today, and three people want it.
Just goes to show that the old saying "one man's trash is another man's treasure" rings true.
