There seems to be a pretty significant correlation there.

Side note: I've long suspected/assumed that strong safety is an important position for stopping the run. The fact that two of the top four TFL guys in WOOF history are strong safeties bolsters that suspicion for me.

Heh. Looking at the careers of some safeties, it may be pretty easy to guess which seasons they played SS and which seasons they played FS by looking at their TFL% from year to year.

I guess I'm dumb. What's TFL%?

I have always gone for SS's or converted FS's with a high run defense for the SS spot. To me it was only natural as it's what I played in HS, College and Semi-Pro..and I was always told run support was my primary job...use your speed to get to your coverage.
So this does solidify my thought process for it.

Very interesting. I always thought it was a useless statistic (edit: er, I mean, bar) for DL - something that was just inflating their OVRs and making them look a little better than they were. Now I may have to stop discounting defensive linemen with very high PD bars. Thanks for the research, Ben.

I've had defensive linemen with high play diagnosis get multiple interceptions for me. I think it matters.

Play diagnosis always was something I valued highly, because I felt that with that it allowed one to set gameplans for aggressive more often....
What do you think, would it be impacted there?
