Hi,

I've just purchased FOF and started a new game. I would like to know if it is possible, and if so how, to edit the player stats/ratings.

I have looked at the excel file titled 'players', but am reluctant to try anything in case I mess up my new game!

The problems I am mainly facing are:

1) The excel file is read only. Is this the file I need to edit, and if so how do I go about saving it to ensure the updated file is used?

2) The excel file in question has no column headings, so whilst I have been able to work out basic columns such as d.o.b, position, team, I don't know what all the columns correspond to!

3) Some stats seem to have very random values. For example, Peyton Manning has 9999 in one column, and Brady has something like 9659, which leads me to think this is some kind of QB-related column, but I don't really have much of an idea of the exact attributes.

Any help would be appreciated. I just want to do it to improve the realism of the game. I don't want my team to be superhuman, but for example, managing the Atlanta Falcons, Brent Grimes is so poor that he won't even make the 53 man squad, yet Chris Owens and Brian Williams are pretty decent!

Thanks

There is a text file in the install folder that explains the columns.

That's great, thanks. Point 1 still stands though - once I've done all the editing necessary, how do I save the new CSV so that it replaces the read-only one currently in the installation folder?

edit: I thought about renaming the files, but then when I ran the game, I noticed I could select 'use alternate player file'. BUT I now need an FDT file - how do I get my CSV file into FDT format??

So... can anyone help on this? I'm guessing people have done editing with the game.

Basically I need to know how to create an FDT file from the spreadsheet/csv, or do something to ensure the FDT file uses the spreadsheet I have edited.

I'm pretty clueless about this, but I'm sure it can't be too hard.

Right-click the file, select "Properties", uncheck the "Read only" box. The same way you would mark any file writable if you wanted to change it but it was read-only. There is no FOF magic here.

Ah ok, so you don't have to create a new FDT file?

Thanks!

NB: Still doesn't appear to be working, I've changed the data in the CSV file, and it's not having an effect on a new game (I'm basically choosing 'No' for everything on the opening screen). For example, I transferred one of the players to a different team and he's still there! Sorry for the continuous questions...

after you have the csv saved you have to use the player file generator app in the folder. Be sure to choose the correct starting year and salary cap. The file that is generated will be your alternate player file

Thanks patsfan, this was the missing piece of info. I've got it to work now!

Now, this questions isn't as important, but if anyone knows how to do it that would also be great:

Can you edit things like 'intelligence' and 'loyalty'? Every new game I start has Matt Ryan with intelligence in the teens, and Roddy White in the 90s. Anyone who has ever heard both of them talk would know that this is horribly wrong!
