I was looking at Action PC Basketball and it seems like a good game. I am considering purchasing it but am not sure from the descriptions if it can do what I am looking for:

A couple of friends and I would like to have a 12 team basketball league set up with 3 divisions of 4 teams each. The 3 division winners and a wildcard would make the playoffs. We would like to start with the 1970 season, utilizing ABA and NBA players.

Would we be able to do this with Action PC Basketball? Also, would we be able to customize the schedule; we would like to have each team play teams in its own division 10 times each and teams in the other 2 divisions 6 times each for a total of 78 games.

I love PC action basketball and for playing out the games it is far superior to any of the other games out there IMO.

What it does not have is any GM/Franchise mode of any kind it is just a replay game. for that I find my interest always wains after awhile - for my tastes I would love to see a game like the Wolverine Basketball game, which I also own and like, with the in game control of PC Action.

The Wolverine game is very solid as a GM sim - but I always end up simming the games because you have so little control over the game when you play them out.

Interesting. What in-game control do you find in Action that DDSPB 2 doesn't have?

I have DDSPB 2 and enjoy it. But the lack of customization is why we are going to give Action a try.

The career mode in DDS is great but I wish the roster size could be increased for training camp and that the Developmental League could be an option that could be turned on or off (like the foreign leagues). The coach hiring phase also drives me crazy every time I play. Overall DDSPB 2 is a great game and I look forward to it improving with future versions.

Interesting. What in-game control do you find in Action that DDSPB 2 doesn't have?

In a word - everything

while playing Action you control the action but deciding if players pass, drive, shoot 3's etc. It is basically a text version of an NBA console game. In DDSPB you put out the lineup and can call plays out of timeouts and that is it.

I really like the look and feel of DDSPB - but I always get bored because I have next to no influence on the team once the game starts other than the minutes. If I am a real life coach, or playing Action, or one of the console games and decide I am going to build my team around putting LeBron in the low post (never mind that no real coach has been able to convince him to do so) I can do that - but in DDSPB I basically put him on the floor and hope for the best.

In the end I find all the basketball game lacking since PC Action gives me the in game control I want, but absolutely no GM mode. DDSPB has great GM features allows me to mold the team however I want, but gives me no control as to how to make it work on the floor.

to capture my full attention I need both the way that OOTP and FOF give me
