I love a good war movie. Watched Final Countdown last night. While not great, pretty entertaining.
Here is mine:
The Longest Day
Apocalypse Now
Sergeant York
The Fighting Sullivans

Saving Private Ryan
Platoon
Glory
Tough call for my fourth. I really love the movie Memphis Belle but it's not worthy enough to be on this list. Not sure if you would allow Braveheart to be a war movie but if so, that's my choice. If not, I have either Patton or The Dirty Dozen.

Saving Private Ryan
Platoon
Das Boot
Kelly's Heroes
Honorable mention to Gallipoli, just not well known enough.

Das Boot - Conveyed the feeling of being on a submarine
Full Metal Jacket - R. Lee Ermey with one of the most outstanding portrayals of a military person ever captured on film.
Apocalypse Now - a visual tour-de-force. The well documented struggles during filming only add to the mystique.
Saving Private Ryan - The beach landing is quite possibly the most realistic depiction of a battle ever used in a movie.

Full Metal Jacket
The hardest film to leave off my list. The first half of it would have made it easily, the 2nd half cost it the spot.
Way too many hard choices for me on this one though, leaving out Kelly's Heroes & Apocalypse seemed unthinkable, we really need a bigger mountain.

Heartbreak Ridge (I know, not a lot of 'war', but still an awesome movie just for the one liners)

If we're limiting this to movies about wars from the last 100-200 years...
Black Hawk Down
Platoon
Der Untergang

Full Metal Jacket
Saving Private Ryan
Platoon
We Were Soldiers
Another one where it is hard to come up with a 4th. I like The Patriot as much as We Were Soldiers.
My dad took me with him when he went to see Full Metal Jacket. I was 10.

Lots of people have already mentioned Platoon, but I'll add:
Hurt Locker
Die Brucke/The Bridge (German film, 1959)
Best Years of Our Lives, 1946 (not quite a war movie per se)
