We just learned that we had friends that were involved in the Sugarland stage collapse last night (http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/local/indiana&id=8305732)at the Indianapolis fair.
A single mom and her daughter were caught under the collapse and the mother suffered a broken pelvis and ribs while her daughter, age 11, suffered a crushed skull. She has been in surgery and had a part of her skull removed and her neck stabilized. She is on a breathing tube and in a medically induced coma for now.

Awful news, PilotMan, I'll be thinking about them. I hope the doctors are able to do something amazing for her.
Sorry for the bad news, they are in my thoughts.

The last update that I had was that the girl was done with surgery for now, and that they were successful at getting the swelling in her brain down. They did find some lacerations on her brain, but things are still really touch and go right now.

Ugh... I am so sorry. Some of the video I saw this morning of the incident was horrifying. I hope they both make a full recovery!

When I saw the topic, I was hoping that the post wasn't related to the stage collapsing. My wife and I saw a Keith Urban concert there last year and had very close seats on the floor (dirt), so when I saw the video this morning, it gave me chills and I felt really sick, as we probably would have been caught under the collapse.
Keeping your friends and others in my prayers.

We had a storm much like that one roll through the winery last Sunday. Wind went from calm to 70 MPH in 15-20 seconds. Broke out a couple windows. Crazy to see how eerily similar that storm was in the video.
Best wishes for your friends, PilotMan.

Kudos to the people in the grandstand leaving what appears to be as calm as possible without trampling others and kudos to those who rushed back to try and help.

The mom, Shannon, had a 7 1/2 hour surgery to repair her broken hip. That was completed today, but they found a bad burn on her leg that will need plastic surgery.
Jade, her daughter is under heavy sedation, and is able to move somewhat when they were cleaning her breathing tube. She was also responding with groans to familiar voices. She is in stable but critical condition. She is expected to be sedated for at least another week.
I think that the best news there is that she doesn't seem to have any paralysis which was one of the very biggest fears.

Wow. I'm just catching up with this now. The stage collapse looked so awful, scary to read the impact. I'll be keeping them in my thoughts.

Thoughts are with them. No one that young should ever have to go through something like this.

I have some update news.
Shannon has been in some intense pain, worse than the initial injury. She has a 3rd degree burn in a 4 square inch area on the back of her thigh. She was going to have surgery today, but the doctors decided to hold off until she feels better. She also has to deal with a transverse process fracture of the L1, 2, 3, and 4 vertebrae (in the lumbar area).
She and Jade are still in different hospitals and is still looks like it is going to be a few days until she might get the chance.
Jade's numbers have been stable. She is still in stable but critical condition and in a medically induced coma.
Her family has set up a fund to help pay for medical expenses for the two of them. That and the most recent updates can be found here:

I thought that I would put an update in here. Especially since there have been 2 more casualties since the accident.
Both Shannon and Jade are doing better. Shannon was discharged this morning, and although she is still in a lot of pain, and she can't put weight on her leg for 3 months, she is out and staying at the Ronald McDonald house near the Children's hospital in Indy.
Jade has been slowly coming out of the sedation and had a full body scan this week that revealed no further injuries. She is doing as well as the doctors could have hoped for. She is still on a ventilator, but the prospects are brighter for her now.

That's as good as can be expected, I would think. Long road to recovery, but they're on their way.

I haven't given an update here for a while, so I thought that something needed to be posted here. Today, both Shannon and Jade came home for the first time!
Jade has recovered very well. She is able to talk and really shows minimal signs from her injuries. She is still wearing a neck brace to limit her mobility from the accident, and her road to full recovery is still along way off, but she is healthy enough to come home.
In fact, Shannon's injuries are going to be longer and harder to recover from over the long run, simply because of her age and the fact she had broken ribs and hip.
Great news for this whole situation.
