Early in the morning on Aug. 22nd, 1998, Jim announced his company to the world via a Usenet posting.

I wonder if there's any posters here from that original usenet posting.

I don't think I got access to Usenet until 1999. I did buy the original FOF, but I think I found out about it after that posting.

I remember it like it was yesterday.
Jim, where are you these days? Maybe you and I could team up on a mobile project.

I didn't post in that thread, but I was part of that "scene". Kuffrey, Fenrick, and christopher Johnson all remind me of the original front office football central site.
Hard to believe it's been 13 years. The first FOF was magic for me. It brought me back into text gaming after a long absence from the APBA football board game as a teenager. I quickly graduated to OOTP. ;)

"Yes, the game includes real players, though for legal reasons I don't
advertise that. They're all gone by 2012 or so anyway."
I still have the original sitting on my display shelf. My wife doesn't quite understand its importance next to my football trophies but she has learned to ignore my little quirks.

That quote caught my eye, too.
Particularly since 2012 is only a few months away. :)

I want to say Chris Johnson worked with Tony Wyss and myself on Sportplanet back in the day; dunno if he went further back to GA-Sports, or if he came on board after that kerfluffle.
Isn't Kuffrey the main PR guy for Markus and OOTP these days?

I think I had heard about FOF on usenet from a TNM thing. It was the greatest game that's ever happened to me. I remember going on vacation and coming back and FOF was in my mailbox. Getting FOF was millions of times better than going on vacation.
I remember the first digital version (I think it was EA's version). I was deployed and needed help to get it going. Great stuff.

Dola, on my deployment in 99, the Dreamcast came out. I had gotten that, but once I had access to FOF, I left it alone.
I was there from day 1. Huge Usenet guy although I was mostly a lurker. Kinda like here as well I guess.
That was my upgrade from Front Page Sports Football which was falling apart at the time.

And Brett Favre will still be playing. Damn your false advertising Jim!

I was also a part of that scene and remember the post well.
There was a memorable Gamepen sports therapy column written about the time when my account was spoofed by a troll, but it is sadly long gone now.

Just imagine FOF7 Gameplanning fused with some College spice, then combined with TCY Recruiting.
Pure Bliss..
Let's wrap this up and take a Big Football bite out of it. I'm getting hungry Jim, very hungry..
