This was from an old thread around here, where various people posted 5 things about themselves with only one of them being false. Was an interesting game, really:

Okay, here's another set to consider...

- - - - -

(1) I am a direct descendent of two U.S. Presidents – John Adams and John Quincy Adams. I’m not very interested in genealogy, so I don’t know the exact links in the family tree, but there are only three name changes involved along the way – mostly male-to-male descent. I still haven’t read the recent biography, though I have heard it’s fairly flattering.

(2) There is a lab station at the Ohio State University’s biochemistry facility at Gibraltar Island (a small university-owned station adjacent to Put-In-Bay/South Bass Island in Lake Erie) that is named in my honor, due to work I did there as part of a science fair project almost 20 years ago.

(3) My eyes change color day by day, ranging pretty dramatically from either blue or blue-gray to completely green, to occasionally something closer to hazel or light brown. They often will have a different color near the pupil than on the outside – at the moment they are sort of hazel inside, and blue-green outside.

(4) My real talent lies in that greatest human endeavor, Whack-a-Mole. I lost once three years ago at the Maryland State Fair, but other than that have never lost a game in my life. Line up as many competitors as you like, I’m the undeniable king of whack-a-mole. I have found this to be a completely non-transferable skill.

(5) Once, while in high school, I drove my car directly into a moving train. It wasn’t moving very quickly, but I totaled the car and only avoided my own demise by a series of coincidences. There was a rumor around my school and area towns that I had been killed, but gladly the rumors proved to be exaggerated.

Anyway, I post here because... I lost recently. Twice. With no revenge.

I admittedly had about 10 drinks in me (boardwalk in Ocean City MD), and the winner seemed pretty sober... and I managed to post 130 and 140 points in the two games (first to 150 wins). But I lost. Actually had an outright miss in the first game, which simply does not happen to me.

Not sure if this is a thread about getting old, about my possible drinking problem, or just reliving old times... but it seemed fair to share.

Wait, there is scoring? How does that work?

I really hope you didn't lose to Lefty.

It's odd, given that most married men become more proficient at whack-a-mole as they get older.

Wait, there is scoring? How does that work?

I have seen this exact setup a number of times -- a rectangular carnie-style trailer, with (I think) 14 stations around it. You sit/stand at one station, and each time you whack a mole, you get 10 points. It seems standard the the game goes until one person gets to 150 points (15 moles) and his light goes off, and the game freezes.

I think I completely misunderstood this thread. I thought you were proposing we play a game where one person posts 5 things about them and one is false. Everyone else tries to "whack the mole" by guessing which one is false and there was scoring. I thought you had played this game on another forum or another thread here and had scored 150 points.

I confuse.

I mean I guess I see now.

But.

I confuse.

For MJ4H -

I'm a balding German male.

I'm a hairy Irish male.

I'm a blue eyed Caucasian.

I like pie.

I hate the Yankees.

Now, whack a mole!

I think it is clear that you're getting old Quik.

Any other signs?

Reading Glasses?
Elastic in your waistband?
Socks showing below your pants?
Viagra?

Reminds me of the last years of the great Whack-a-Mole legend Bobby "The Bobcat" Fritzenjingle. He had dominated the Whack A Mole ranks for years in the 60's, but lost his speed toward the end of his career and drank himself to death at age 57.

There weren't message boards in his day, but people say he had a network of friends that would post flyers all around the country with messages that he would dictate to them over the phone. In the end, the messages just continued to get more and more desperate as he tried to remind folks of how good he once was, and how he never used to lose. He died alone, but at his funeral a bunch of old fans got together and rigged a giant mallet to smash his coffin into the ground.
