NCAA 2012 OD signup thread - The Ladder (Xbox 360)

Here is my attempt for a relegation league setup that might be fun in an OD:

For the first season, teams are broken out into conferences based on their in-game ranking (Tradition Sports Online (http://traditionsportsonline.com/nca...tings-revealed)). By having the top 24 teams in 2 conferences, you guarantee that the Boise States of the world don't enjoy a cupcake schedule while they waltz on their way to an undefeated season. Also, the high strength of schedule for Level 1 teams will give them an advantage over lower-level teams in the polls. A Level 2 team may run up a good record, but their S.O.S. will probably keep them from being a legitimate BCS threat.

After each season, the conference champion for Level 2 will move up. I designed it so that the top two levels feature 12 team conferences so that there will be a conference championship game which determines who gets to move up. Twelve team conferences also allow for the most inter-division play relative to 14 or 16 team conferences.

Level 3 is made of of nine-team conferences so that all teams play an 8-game round-robin schedule. The team that finishes atop each Level 3 conference moves up to Level 2 the next season, while the lowest finisher in each Level 2 conference moves down to Level 3.

The top 4 finishers in Level 4 move up to Level 3. Each last-place finisher in Level 3 slides down to Level 4.

The independent military schools will always remain independent in this setup.

This setup is probably more fun if all human teams start with low-rated or cupcake level teambuilder squads in Level 4, so that players have to work their way up the ladder in order to get a shot at the championship.

Anyhow, that's my idea for a relegation league. I'll probably go with a more traditional realigned setup for my own offline dynasty.

Soooo, assuming that the upcoming patch fixes the issues with Online Dynasties, do we have a contingent of FOFCers willing to climb The Ladder?

My idea is to use teambuilder teams and have humans start in Tier 4 with teambuildered versions of their favorite team. Humans could pick to have their roster to come from any existing 2* team. We would all have an allotment of pitches that owners would distribute for their team as they saw fit. Anyhow, just putting out some feelers. Not sure I am committed to doing this just yet. A lot will depend on how successful the patch is.

If ODs get fixed to where you guys are happy, I would certainly consider picking up the game and giving this a whirl. Assuming we had a group that would stick with it, I remember how short-lived our ESPN 2k5 league lasted.

FWIW, I've run two separate NCAA ODs here at FOFC that ran until the next version came out. As long as there aren't gamekillers that get discovered, it will go until June or so.

Has a date been given for the patch, or are we still working on radio silence 2 months in?

I only do offline dynasties, but after having 2 games freeze near the end of each, I read somewhere that if you disconnect from the internet, the problem goes away. I rolled the dice and tried this, and at least for one game, I was lucky. Yay me. But I have no confidence a fix is coming any time soon, nor that it will do what it says. I really wish I had just stuck with NCAA11 and pretended that I was doing some sort of coaching carousel.

I've followed this enough to not get my hopes up. This has been in the works since early August, then delays, rejection, tweeting a fix to the OD problem that supposedly doesn't work, etc. It's like Maximum NCAA12 Beer Tent Football.

Okay, so let's start to firm things up a bit. The patch seems to have been pretty good.

If you want to do this, please reaffirm in this thread, give us your team preference, and which 2-star roster to base your teambuildered team off of if you have a preference. I'll start to figure out what we should do as far as team pitches and some of that kind of stuff. If we have enough of a critical mass of owners, we'll go ahead and do this.

I did some research to see what the in-game pitches were for all of the 2-star teams. Should be a good guideline for what pitches everyone will be given to distribute for their team (e.g. how many B's, C's, D's each team has to choose from for their pitches). Note that the conference pitch is determined solely by the coference you are in. Our conference will have a D+ for that pitch.

I am an NCAA Football noob, but I'll give it a shot. Every league needs its doormat. Since my alma mater -- the worst team in the ACC -- is taken already, if no one objects, I'll go down the road a little and take the second worst program in the ACC, Weak Forest.

I will be making the teams we'll use in teambuilder. Probably your best bet is to start practicing with Wake Forest to get used to their roster.

If it makes you feel better, I think I only won one game against a human in last year's OD. So I suck too. :)

Transfer Failed bug...what's the latest? - Operation Sports Forums (http://www.operationsports.com/forums/ncaa-football/509638-transfer-failed-bug-whats-latest.html)

I'm concerned about the transfer-failed bug that affects ODs. I experienced it once when I was running a single-player OD. My results were ignored, and then the cpu simmed the results. Very irritating. And that was just in a relatively meaningless practice OD. There are lots of multiplayer ODs out there that have been brought to a dead halt by this problem. If there is a OD killer out there, this seems to be it. What do you guys think? I haven't gone in depth into the thread, but saw that someone from EA posted the following just today:

I think we'd be ok starting. From what I get reading those threads, all of those ODs were started pre-patch, and mostly had issues once they got to the bowl season.

Yeah. It's gonna take a little while to create all the teambuilder teams anyhow. And I'm thinking I may need to change the conference setup a bit from the posted diagram. I don't think people really want 10 guys all shoved in the same division to start out.

Same thing for rosters. Maybe we should use one of the rosters where they've tried to fix some of the problems with the default roster (like super LBs, psychic DBs, etc.).

FAIRDALE KINGS (gamer tag) rosters are the ones I've been using and are endorsed at both OS (where he's a member) and Utopia.

His are just the default rosters. No editing of ratings. Which is fine, if that's what we want. I know there are other rosters out there that are designed to make the game play better. Maybe we'll avoid the problems altogether because we're all starting with weak 2* rosters.
