A friend asked me to look at their laptop because I'm "good with computers" but I really don't know what I'm doing here and my google-fu is failing, maybe someone here can help:

The laptop is an Acer Travelmate 2420 with Windows XP Installed. When I try a normal boot early in the boot process (usually very soon after seeing the Windows load screen) it beeps twice and reboots itself.

I tried safe mode and safe mode w/ command prompt and the same thing happens.

If I go into the bios setup it never reboots on me but every few seconds there are two beeps. Shortly after exiting the bios screen it reboots.

I see tons of stuff on Dell and HP laptop beeps and what they mean but I can't seem to find anything reliable on this one that I can comprehend (I found a service manual but I don't understand WTF I'm reading). Any ideas?

Usually beeps mean a bad memory dimm. If there is two, try taking one out and booting it, try each one by itself.
